UFC Fight for the Troops 2: Cody McKenzie Talks Yves Edwards
"I'm stoked that it's for the troops. I like the idea behind those fight cards. You can't look like a wuss in front of a bunch of tough kids with guns."-- Check out the full interview with Cody McKenzie at Ultimatefighter.com.
"I'm going in there to punch (Yves Edwards) in the face and kick him in the face. If I know I can get the guillotine, I'll take it, but I'm not really looking to just go in there and first-round Yves like that.
"If I could get the triangle, I'd love that. I don't know how to do an ankle lock, but if I can catch him in an ankle lock, I'll do one of those."
"I'm going to go out and put on a hell of a show with Yves."

Yeah, that was hilarious. Obviously bullshitting, but that makes it even funnier.

i dont think theres anyway that mckenzie wins this
yves has been around the block for a damn long time, hes not gonna run into that guillotine and outside of that what does mckenzie have?
its gonna be good seeing the founder of thug jitsu at 2-0 in his return to the octagon
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
He's got some world class thighs
I feel good about my kicks when I watch McKenzie.
His kicks look halfhearted like he’s not sure what’s gonna happen. I swear he almost closes his eyes. He’s fun to watch though. I still can’t believe how many people he’s got with that guillotine, its unreal.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
I feel the same way. I like McKenzie, but Edwards seems to be a huge jump in competition for him. There are fighters like Joe Stevenson who have awesome guillotines, but that will only get a UFC fighter so far, and I can’t see McKenzie getting one on Edwards.
I won't jump off the bandwagon just because you lost.
The thing about Yeves is
sometimes he dosen’t show up.
I’m a fan so it’s very frustraiting.
I was telling a friend about how badass he was once before he fought, then he gets steamrolled by KJ Noons…..sigh.
Learn JiuJitsu, it's fun.
i can't call this fight
but i am going with mckenzie. edwards may have been in to many wars to win this
I'll just quote myself from the comments of the original post for the annoucement
Let me clarify…this isn’t Aaron Wilkinson, a guy who came into the fight at 6-3 having been submitted 3 times prior. This is Yves Edwards…39-16-1. Submitted 4 times in his career. In 2006 by Mark Hominick, in 2000 to Rumina Sato, in 1999 to Nate Marquardt and 1998 against Fabiano Iha.
I’m sorry if I don’t really find the idea that "this is MMA and anything can happen" to mean "realistic possibility"
McKenzie is a one-trick guy with awful stand-up and really shady cardio who couldn’t handle a featherweight on TUF. …not seeing it.

and forgive the "attitude" as that was obviously a response in an earlier post to someone else...
I just didn’t want to re-type it all.

pretty much exactly how I see it

My biggest problem is that he’s not even what I’d consider “average” at anything beyond his guillotine. And that makes a guy who has seen almost everything the world of MMA has to offer more than just a “stiff test” for him.

I'd side with your argument that Yves should take this
But you’ve gonna eat a shit ton of crow if you’re wrong and I think you’re really selling Cody short because he hasn’t had to do anything but the guillotine. Dude is good at jiu jitsu.
It’s like people who fault Anderson for no BJJ, or Cigano for no wrestling. Odds on Thugjitsu, but Cody is a live dog if you ask me.

If I’m wrong I’m wrong. I don’t know who would fault Anderson for no BJJ when he has shown it time and again. The thing is, we’ve seen Cody’s stand-up and we’ve seen his cardio look shaky. I mean, this isn’t just me deciding this stuff on a whim.

A good guillotine is the grappling version of knockout power. He’s only gotta land it once to end the fight. Either that or leg locks.

Again Yeves has a history of sometimes fighting flat and getting smoked by inferior fighters.
It’s happened before.
Learn JiuJitsu, it's fun.
True, but I don't see what Cody has that can "smoke" Yves.
I’m a big Cody fan, and I’ll be cheering for that guillotine, but I don’t really see a path to victory for it.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Best Mckenzie quote
‘People like to call me a one trick pony, I prefer to call myself a choke artist!’
I'll go with the upset here
and say McKenzie manages to get this.
He does have one victory by triangle choke I believe. So there is always the chance he pulls out something other than the McKenzietine
