As of right now, Carwin is a heavy hitter with very good wrestling ability, but has a glaring weakness in his cardio. I would think that the plan for any of Carwin’s opponents going forward is to weather the early storm and wait until he gasses.
I won't jump off the bandwagon just because you lost.
This is some good news for UFC. Nog, Rothwell, or Kongo would make good opponents. Of course the other option is a fight with Dos Santos, but that would be rough coming back off an injury like he just had.
timing is tricky wit Nog and Rothwell
Kongo is a good option
Kongo is out the game

Hopefully it’s a legit fight, but the only guys I can see would be Big Nog or JDS. Kongo just drew with Browne and doesn’t deserve the fight. Neither does Rothwell. Carwin/JDS for an interim title would be cool, but it’s way too far off for that.
Despite UFC 115 being exciting, I hope this Vancouver event has a deeper card, maybe even a title fight. Guess there won’t be many Canadians on it though – they’re all booked for Toronto. They should move Rory MzcDonald’s fight back 2 weeks to this card.
Maybe they’ll bring back Big Timmeh to fight Shane?

I agree
Enough of building up your fighters by beating up Nog. He was a great fighter but he just doesn’t have it anymore.
Werdum beat Fedor, Dos Santos beat Werdum, Joaquim Ferreira beat Dos Santos. Therefore Ferreira is WAAAAY better than Fedor. Keep MMA math alive!
JDS V Carwin
Would be huge, but I do agree that’s still a long ways aways for JDS
How about...
Making his walk in a bit shorter so he doesn’t gas so quick?
It takes a big man to cry. But it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man crying.
Schaub/Cro-Cop Winner?
Maybe? Although, if CC manages to get through Schaub, seeing him get crushed by Carwin would be brutal.
If it's Cro Cop, sure maybe
but Schaub and Carwin are team mates.

90% of heavyweights
would have gassed after putting down a beating like Carwin did in the first round.
Carwin has had the surgery, improved his diet and surely done some other things to increase his cardio…and I don’t think there are too many people that would survive a barrage like that anyway…so I’d say he’ll be ok.
Also, I like how in a matter of weeks, the entire lower part of the heavyweight division gets matched up against one another and Nelson and Carwin both have returns scheduled. Can we stop all of the ‘UFC Heavyweight division is dead/frozen/shallow’ talk now?

The title’s still on the shelf again. I think that’s the crux of the frozen part of the argument.
http://www.instrength.com
And I get that
But a few weeks ago the story was ‘Velasquez is out, Lesnar doesn’t know if he wants to fight, JDS and Mir need opponents, Nelson is in contract limbo, Carwin is recovering from surgery, Nog is recovering from surgery, and even lower guys like Russow and Rothwell are recovering from injuries etc etc etc’
Well, since then, Nelson’s contract stuff was cleared up, and he is Mir’s next opponent, Carwin has a return date, and Russow was even matched up. The top of the heap, the title, is still locked up, but movement is definitely under way in the division.

Of those names
only Carwin really matters at all in the scope of the division. Nelson/Mir is a battle of gatekeepers, Nog looks to be shot, and nobody else is worth talking about. Cain is still out, Lesnar still doesn’t know if he wants to fight (and if/when he does it will surely be against lower end opposition), and JDS is still twiddling his thumbs.

But Mir and Nog both still have a high ranking
So even if they are now just gatekeepers, they can be gatekeepers used to get other guys into the upper end of the rankings.
Top 25 ranking penetration is what the UFC uses to monopolize the divisions. They have guys above and below heavyweights from other divisions, they mix and match the right guys and they end up getting more control of the top 25.
I’m sure it’s not their direct intent, but the way it works out, that is what ends up happening, and then they get to a point where they almost completely shut out a division. Look at welterweight, 21 of the top 25 are in the UFC, Diaz and Daley both have no way to get higher than spot 8 in the rankings, and Askren and Hieron are right next to eachother in the rankings. It’s a similar story at light heavyweight where they have 19 of the top 25.

Rec’d sir. I think Maynard/Edgar fight showed how easy someone can gas after throwing that many punches. Maynard slowed down in the second rd and he’s a more than 100lbs lighter than Carwin.

never said Maynard was done. He was gassed in the second but recovered. Carwin clearly did not and was much more gassed than Maynard was in comparison. But that’s also why I said Carwin is a 100lbs bigger since it affected him moreso. The concept still applies that no matter the size, you’ll gas yourself if you do what Carwin and Maynard did.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" - Philippians 4:13
For someone Carwins size it shouldn’t surprise anyone he gassed after a first round like that, He punched himself out simple as that. Everyone talks so much shit about it but simply put he tried to hard to knock out Brock.
I agree with you
Nobody could really throw like that and be ready for round two. Even Maynard had to recover after trying to finish Edgar. The real question is whether or not he can learn from that mistake.

i think the other coach will be either lesner. or jds
I'd like that...
I like it when Jackson’s and Grudge dudes are the assistants. I just can’t see Lesnar or JDS though- for one, Lesnar is just too reclusive. Two, Lesnar can’t be an MMA coach! Maybe a wrestling coach, but he just doesn’t know enough about the game to teach. Would be good T.V. though. And while JDS would probably bring in some great Black House coaches and collaborators, the English would be an issue.

There were some interesting things said by Carwin on his Twitter yesterday...
1) He said that he agreed to a fight on May 28, but the UFC “decided to go in a different direction.” Who do you guys think that was against? Nelson?
2) He WOULD fight teammate Schaub as he “doesn’t fight with hate and punches {Schaub} in the face everyday for free.”.
3) He’s admitted to gassing in the Lesnar fight due to not letting anyone “take the reigns” on his S&C program and has since hired Joel Chaimberg. He will be planning to weigh 265 without cutting for fights, which is an idea that he adamantly opposed immediately after 116, saying he’s “weighed 280 since college.” I also like that he said that he’ll never lose because of something that he can control again, instead of blaming his performance on everything from Lactor, to adrenaline dumps. Good to see him taking responsibility.
4) He’s making the obligatory, though potentially significant statements of being pain-free and the most passionate and focused since the Neil Wain fight.
This is his last chance to get it right at 36 and as a big fan I hope he can make another run.

He said they couldn’t come back until the city toned down the antics when it came to insurance. The city made them put up a ridiculous amount for insurance in case a fighter got hurt because no one wanted to be held liable, and I think (but I’m not 100%) that it made it unprofitable to run here despite a 4 million + gate. The city has MAD issues when it comes to MMA. It’s all convoluted and dumb.

That doens't sound like 'talking shit'
More like being rational. Same reason they won’t go to Hawaii: The taxes would make it simply unprofitable.

True.
All of them, plus Silva have been injured in the last few months though.
I am sure it makes scheduling a little tough.
I figured adding the WEC guys would help fill out these events with title matches, but both champs needing time off is killer.
Yeah
But just imagine, once they are all healthy, the chance that multiple champions get hurt/taken out of action at the same time is going to be pretty unlikely.

I bet he’s a coach as well, with Lesnar being their preferred other. I really really want to see him fight Cain. That’s a fight that can go either way in my opinion, and both did similarly against Brock with the exception that Cain won by dominating punches and Shane lost by Submission. But other than that…
This isn't Strikeforce
Carwin just fought for the real title and lost, he needs to have atleast one fight till he fights for the title again.
Not saying that it's not a good idea
just that it shouldn’t be for the belt.
Thats why its for the INTERIM title, something Carwin is good at
He just best nelson, cain is out, brock…who the fuck knows, mir is booked w/ roy…so who else is there?
There is really no point
in having him crush someone just to check a box.
He’s 36, has a UFC-friendly contract, and would really only be challenged by Cain, JDS or Brock in the UFC…no reason to have to beat someone else first.
