The main event was awesome. That was a great fight. The Vera-Silva fight was just thoroughly pathetic on many levels. Guida makes me dizzy but he did a good job.
Vera-Silva was great.

Parts were great
Overall though, it was just alright. Not that remarkable.
"Who are you and how the hell did you get in here?"
"I'm a locksmith... and i'm a locksmith."
Well, they were both jawing at eachother. That’s not like where a Diaz brother will look to provoke everyone, Vera and Silva were going at eachother verbally, and then Vera bitched up. Pretty cut and dry.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

Exactly.
In addition, Silva was having so much fun with those bitch slaps, you couldn’t help but just smile along with him.

I dont know man, I personally think it was a display of shitty character and bad sportsmanship. In my eyes Silva fought well, but tainted his victory by being sort of a classless ham with the "bitch slaps’’ in the final round. Conduct like this is terrible for the sport’s image, as it reeks of professional wrestling antics and general tasteless showboating. What athletic end does it serve to drum on the back of your opponents head? Not to mention the fact that any use of the word “bitch” in reference to anything other than a female dog is offensive and should be avoided by professionals in any field. I think Joe Rogan is generally good at his job, but using the term “bitch slap” is a mistake. If the UFC wants to be taken seriously by the general public it needs to grow up. I don’t want to be embarrassed when I tell my educated friends that i am an MMA fan.
Main event was great! Frankie Edgar’s got a chin of granite and the heart of a champion. Can not wait for their third fight!

I am so sick of this kind of talk.
“Such and such is bad for mma’s image. Wah, waah”
Did it ever occur to you types that MMA is growing and attracting the fanbase it is because people are sick of the “default response” sports interviews and predictable commentating. The lack of real human personality and emotion.
I don’t want to be embarrassed when I tell my educated friends that i am an MMA fan.
Get over it. Enjoy what you enjoy, and don’t worry about what the so called “educated” think. Christ, have you ever read some of the vile shit that university professors consider required reading?
would you wanna be the guy to tell thiago not to do that?
dude is TERRIFYING (in the best possible way).
Lame.

That fight was a draw at worst
An obvious win for him. I would be devastated as well.
Im sorry
I can see a draw kind if, but anybody who thinks edgard won that fight is just mind boggling
GSP would destroy Kim.

Edgar vs. Pettis
i sure hope somebody wins decisively. Edgar is a great fighter but i don’t know if he can help getting out of rematch situations.
So the main event for UFC 125: Resolution puts it in the running for 'Most Ironic Name for an MMA Event'
The other contenders are UFC 76: Knockout and PRIDE 31: Unbreakable.
OHHHHH! OH MY GOODNESS DID YOU SEE THAT?! He ran up the wall like a ninja and landed a high kick! Unbelievable! I've never seen anything like that, it's like something out of a movie!

pettis doesnt deserve a shot to begin with, now he gets one over a guy who fought to a draw with edgar?

Here's the thing
I think the UFC does not want to back down on their promise to give the Bendo/Pettis winner the unification title shot and they also don’t want to devalue the WEC belt (although it should be devalued).
There should be a rubber match but I can see why they gave it to Pettis or else the UFC would be gunning for having every weight class have issues with who is getting a title shot.

It’s really funny to watch everyone LOVE them some Gray Maynard and Brian Stann after taking massive shits on them for the last 2 weeks.

I liked neither of them before and I certainly don’t now. Gray fought a very good, very entertaining fight. Still not a fan. Screw brian stann

I got a bit pissed off listening to Gray say “I think I won the fight” in the press conference. It looked like Edgar did too. Maynard didn’t finish it, and it was hella close, so he doesn’t really have much to complain about and it could have gone worse for him.
It reminds me of the time he KO’d himself and then refused to aknowledge it. He’d be far better off and much more likeable if there was less whining out of him.
Brilliant performance from both of them though. I was expecting a blanket-fest but they’ve both grown so much as fighters. I look forward to the eventual rematch.
Anonymity breeds contempt.
Yeah, Gray has always been a bit of a sore loser…
I think it has a lot to do with him being so ‘one directional’ ie. simple-minded..
Lol, you’re probably right. It’s a shame Randy or someone in his corner didn’t suggest he’d do himself a favour by being magnanimous.
Anonymity breeds contempt.
by Michael Warren on Jan 2, 2011 1:59 AM EST up reply actions
This.
Exact reason I don’t like Gray was the NC self-knock-out and post-fight whining. I’d certainly respect him as a person a lot more if he just said it was a hell of a fight and I look forward to the rematch…has complaining about the result of a fight ever changed it? Randy called it after round 2, he did it to himself by head hunting.
Yeah, and when they said that to him in the press conference he aknowledged it but still couldn’t entertain the possibility it was a draw. I’ll be interested to hear his comments after he sees a tape.
Anonymity breeds contempt.
by Michael Warren on Jan 2, 2011 2:01 AM EST up reply actions
That was too quick for Dana to decide pettis gets the shot with no fan input. It’s probably because Pettis and Edgar might be the next coaches on Ultimate Fighter. A Maynard rematch would screw everything up.
IMO Pettis is too young to be a TUF coach, it would make more sense to have Gray and Frankie as coaches, but that would mean that Pettis would probably have to wait till the fall for his shot at the Belt
I couldn’t stomach Maynard as a coach. He’s won me over as a fighter, but he’s too whiney to watch for 12 weeks.
Anonymity breeds contempt.
by Michael Warren on Jan 2, 2011 1:58 AM EST up reply actions
Also he has two challengers at the minute, a Maynard Edgar rematch will sell now no matter when it happens. Whereas if Pettis title shot is delayed and he loses a fight in the UFC in the meantime his stock will drop dramatically. Better to ride the wave of his cage kick. Be interesting to see what the medical suspensions are for Maynard and Edgar though.
Anonymity breeds contempt.

Anyone else keen to see BJ vs Maynard while we’re waiting for the rematch?
Anonymity breeds contempt.
The Press Conference was just not good.
Maynard comes across as such a tool, borderline retarded tool. Edgar comes across as normal, Stann carries himself well. The Korean Zombie will get KOed by GSP in the first 2 rounds, and I still Like Silva and loved the bitch slaps haha. Good card overall, much better than expected. Maynard just gets worse as the conference goes on.
