UFC 125 Fight Card: Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard Primer

Edgar_maynard_mediumUFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (13-1, 8-1 UFC)  will make his second title defense against rival Gray Maynard (10-0-0-1, 8-0-0-1 UFC) at UFC 125 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in a few hours.

Maynard gave Edgar his only loss in April of 2008 at UFC Fight Night 13. He used superior wrestling and his size and power advantage to put Edgar on the ground and control the fight positionally.

Since that fight Edgar has reeled off five straight wins, including two back-to-back defeats of former champion B.J. Penn at UFC 112 and UFC 118. Many felt Edgar had benefited from a questionable decision in the first Penn fight so the ex-champ was given an immediate rematch. Edgar left no doubt in the rematch, dominating Penn for all five rounds.

Edgar remains underrated by many fans and oddsmakers who are favoring Maynard to win the fight.

I have yet to see a single oddsmaker that doesn’t favor Maynard.

Yes. And as you have pointed out, there is a good reason for that

Maynard === bad match up for Edgar. Edgar will take a beating tonight and his Cinderella story will end tonight. The question is whether BJ Penn will move back down if Edgar loses.

Well

If Fitch grinds BJ down, I am sure he would want to move down. If BJ beats Fitch convincingly though, then he is in business in 170
