What's sort of getting lost in the news that Brock Lesnar will fight Alistair Overeem on December 30 is the fact that Overeem is now officially signed with the UFC. This coming a day after he denied a report from Swedish MMA site MMAnytt.se stating that he was on a plane to Vegas in order to sign his contract.

ESPN's Brett Okamoto has been tweeting details about Overeem's contract with the UFC:

Per my talks with Overeem and Lorenzo: #UFC offered title fight against Cain/JDS winner. Overeem didn't want to wait that long.less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

Overeem contract is exclusive to #UFC. Described as "long-term."less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

Overeem on other Golden Glory member contracts: That was a dispute. I'm sure talks are going on with them now as well. It will be resolved."less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

Strikeforce released Overeem in late July after Overeem refused a September 10 fight with Antonio Silva. (Daniel Cormier stepped in for Overeem.) Overeem claimed Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told him to expect a date in October or November, and with multiple minor injuries coming out of his fight with Fabricio Werdum, he would not have enough time to prepare.

UFC President Dana White blamed the release on a difference in business practices between his company and Golden Glory, Overeem's management team. Specifically, White claimed Golden Glory wanted payment in their name in lieu of the fighter.

The two sides negotiated throughout August. Overeem's signing had been anticipated over the past week.
