BJ Penn Targets November Return

"Dana White texted me the last couple of days, and it looks like I’m probably going to be back in the ring in November sometime."

"Dana’s trying to put the fight together, but that’s what I know as of right now, so I’ll keep you guys posted. This is going to be good".

technically...

still just a rumor, even if Eddie Bravo “thinks” it’s Joe Lauzon

Well confirmed was a bad choice of word on my part but I would still say it’s more than a rumor at this point.

by bigdmmafan on Sep 10, 2010 5:08 AM EDT up reply actions

BJ vs Gomi would be fantastic. Sotiropolis isn’t ready for Penn yet. I would mind seeing Sotiropolis fight Florian though.

Can't wait but...

..Come fight night, I want the Hilo Kid, the Prodigy and BJ Penn to be put together perfectly and not the fragile shell of those three that we saw in the last two fights.

Put him on 122 for free

Against the Winner/Siver tag team.

Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.

by SSreporters on Sep 9, 2010 10:17 PM EDT reply actions

Putting him on 122 as a co-main wouldn't be a bad idea.

But would BJ do it? He was less than pleased with the financials from his stint at UFC 80. If there’s no PPV % bonus to be had then he’s probably thinking UFC 123 in Michigan instead.

I def agree with penn guida because maybe penn getting non stopped punches thrown at his face will make him actually hit back and use his sick KO boxing skills…..what did he throw fuckin 71 punches total in the last edgar fight?

by Bigsaam on Sep 9, 2010 10:29 PM EDT reply actions

Are you saying that Guida will throw nonstop punches at Penn?

The only people who’ve stood toe-to-toe with Penn is Edgar and Jens Pulver. For 99/100 fighters, trading with Penn is a terrible but unavoidable thing to do.

Guida will throw punches

But his direction sometimes is a bit off and away from his opponent.

Sometimes I wonder

if he would be a better fighter if he cut off his hair. It just has to mess up his vision during a fight.

by av1o3 on Sep 9, 2010 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions

His hair stops the judges from seeing that he’s doing nothing.

He’ll throw punches around Penn’s face.

BJ better get that cardio ready because Guida will long to take him deep and he usually drowns in those waters.

My guess is Guida fighting Gomi. If he was gonna fight BJ, there are a shitload more hints he could have used than “Heavy hands”.

That being said for BJ:

Florian?
Winner of Miller/Tibau?
Winner of Sherk/Dunham?

by BVandDietPepsi on Sep 10, 2010 12:28 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah if Penn fought Guida I could almost see him losing that due to Guida’s cardio and insane pace. Also, that hair does give him an extra round on the cards as others have said

by Polyhedron on Sep 10, 2010 12:34 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

They said the same about Sanchez

and we saw how that ended. BJ’s weakness is speed which Guida doesn’t have.

by av1o3 on Sep 10, 2010 3:34 AM EDT up reply actions

bj's

Weakness is people That don’t commit to a "fight ending attack " and his inability to change his game plan during a fight. He should have taken Francis down rd.1 -5 And subbed him. IMHO

by the-gentle-way on Sep 10, 2010 9:35 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Could it be a rematch with florian?

I mean, if guida is facing gomi like we believe…..who else is there in the division? miller, tibau, sherk, dunham, stephens, guillard ,griffin are all tied up. And if the fight is gonna be in november as he says, that leaves either nate diaz or florian. Because there is no way the ufc lets him beat on an up and coming guy.

by destructivist on Sep 10, 2010 1:04 AM EDT reply actions

I'd love to see him drop his team...

And move to the mainland, there are a lot of great fighters out of Hawaii. Their biggest downfall is that they STAY in Hawaii.

by A K I R A on Sep 10, 2010 3:44 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

No, fighters go to Hawaii JUST to train with BJ. There’s no gym out of Hawaii that will change what he does. That’s like saying Fedor should leave Russia because he lost to Werdum. Frankie has the perfect style to counter BJ’s style and it’s just shitty luck for BJ. Even if you got him to leave Hawaii… He’s STILL Hawaiian no matter where he goes.

? for you

What does him being Hawaiin have anything to do with the subject?

by JONBONESJONES79 on Sep 10, 2010 7:52 AM EDT up reply actions

im calling Penn vs. Guida

I know the timing isint perfect, but I have a feeling Joe Silva and co. Will go with this fight over Penn or Guida vs. Gomi. The Gomi rematch would be fun, but outside of the hardcores no one would be amped up for it because Gomi is still something of an unknown quantity to American fans. Besides, why kill his momentum just as he seems poised to recapture some of that old spark?

No, give Gomi Siver in Germany for another fun scrap he can win, and give Penn Guida. Guida is mad over with casual fans, and if this fight were on free TV they would definitely tune in to see it. Its also the perfect fight to show who’s willing to climb (back, in Penns case) to the top of 155 and who isint.

Guida vs. Penn in Germany or Michigan. Callin it.

Give me smallest finger on man's hand. I'll produce information. Computer unnecessary.

by hobbie on Sep 10, 2010 8:06 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

Would be awesome to see Penn fighting someone on that Germany card. That card needs someone who can breath some life into it.
