Bellator 28: Rich Clementi vs. Carey Vanier - Live Results and Commentary

As with every major show, BloodyElbow.com will be here to bring you live results and commentary for Bellator 28. The live blog will start with the beginning of the Fox Sports broadcast (at 8PM ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.
As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.
Rich Clementi (37-16-1) vs. Carey Vanier (9-3)
Georgi Karakhanyan (13-2-1) vs. Anthony Leone (8-1)
Eric Schambari (12-2) vs. Matt Horwich (25-15-1)
Eric Larkin (2-0) vs. Marcus Andrusia (1-0)
Brent Brookhouse here. The FSN broadcast is live, first fight up shortly.
Anthony Leone vs. Georgi Karakhanyan - Round 1 - Leone ducks under a punch from Georgi and lands a flurry before clinching up with him. Leone looked to be dropping down for a fireman's carry but almost got guillotined. Georgi with a takedown now and Leone is trying to use rubber guard. Karakhanyan doing some ground and pound but not really landing much of note. Georgi passes to half guard. Karakhanyan is looking for a guillotine from the top and Leone uses it to sget a sweep. Georgi reverses back and is on top again. Big right from Georgi lands. Leone looks for a leg lock and gets hit with some big shots for his trouble. 10-9 round for Karakhanyan.
Round 2 - Leone with a quick takedown and while trying to pass he almost gets caught in a triangle choke and Georgi uses it to get on top only to find himself on his back again. Georgi trying to scramble and gets his back taken. Georgi uses the cage to help him shake Leone off and now it's Karakhanyan on top. They go to the feet quickly and Leone with a quick takedown. 10-9 round for Leone evens it up.
Round 3 - Leone lands a punch and Georgi tries to take him down but Leone switches it up and now he's looking for the single on Karakhanyan. Leone can't get it but he's really pushing for the takedown. Knee to the body from Georgi. Finally after about 2 minutes of effort Leone gets the takedown. Karakhanyan with a sweep and he's trying to pass while landing a few punches. Karakhanyan takes the back briefly and Leone shrugs him off. Again Georgi takes the back and is working the position as the round ends. 29-28 for Georgi Karakhanyan on my card.

Eric Schambari vs. Matt Horwich - Round 1 - The two men trade punches. Horwich lands a nice combination that forces Schambari to back up. Right hand from Schambari lands. Schambari is starting to land a little more regularly now and he's winning the fight on the feet. Schambari working for a takedown but can't really get position before Horwich got to his feet. Horwich landing a few punches and forcing Schambari backward but Eric still manages to land a right hand. Right hand from Schambari lands. Body kick from Horwich. Left hand from Schambari. The round ends. 10-9 Schambari.
Round 2 - Schambari with a takedown into Horwich's half guard and landing some punches to the body. THey get back to standing and Horwich looks for a knee and Schambari grabs his leg and forces him into the cage. Schambari still looking for the takedown. As they're back to distance Schambari lands some solid punches to the chin of Horwich. Horwich looking to land some knees and Schambari looks for the takedown again. The round ends. 10-9 Schambari.
Round 3 - Horwich looking aggressive early and lands a very hard kick to the body of Schambari. Schambari with a right hand but it's Horwich controlling the striking early here. Schambari closes distance and is looking for the takedown again. Finally he gets it and that should secure the win if he can avoid the submission for the remaining minute of the fight. 10-9 Schambari.
Official Scorecards: 30-27 Schambari, 29-28 Horwich, 30-27 Schambari. Eric Schambari wins by split decision.
Rich Clementi vs. Carey Vanier - Round 1 - Clementi stalking and eats a right hand from Vanier. Right hand from Vanier lands as a counter to the leg kick of Clementi. Rich ducks down and drives through a takedown and quickly gets to mount. The hooks are in now. Vanier almost turns to end up on top but Clementi re-secures the back and locks in a body triangle. Rich being patient looking for a rear naked choke. Vanier manages to turn and end up on top. Clementi almost losks in an armbar but Vanier powers out. The round ends and it was 10-9 Clementi.
Round 2 - Both men throwing early but not landing until Clementi cracks him with a leg kick. Nice combination by Vanier finished with a body shot. Rich pushes in looking for a takedown and Vanier can't avoid even when he grabs the cage. Vanier tries to stand up and Clementi tries to take the back but Vanier turns and ends up on top. Clementi grabs a leg and uses it to stand up. A few punches from Rich. Clementi tries for the takedown and Vanier ends up on top. In the scramble Vanier tries to secure a guillotine but can't get it and they stand only to have Vanier take him back down. 10-9 Vanier
Round 3 - Nice straight left by Vanier. Takedown by Vanier now and he's in side control. Clementi spins and Vanier tries to take the back. Vanier tells him to stand back up and lands a knee once they're back to the feet and then shoots for a takedown. As they work against the cage Vanier lands two big illegal knees as Clementi's hand was on the ground. Rich is bleeding badly. They resume the fight now. Clementi looks to jump guard into a guillotine and can't finish. Vanier on top now. The fight ends and I have it 29-28 Vanier.

Eric Larkin vs. Marcus Andrusia - Round 1 - Larkin lands a major head kick that stuns Andrusa and then follows him to the ground. It only takes a few minutes and Larkin sinks in the guillotine choke to finish off the fight. Eric Larkin wins by submission (guillotine choke), round 1.

there's a big difference
between baiting a foul, and using the rules so you can’t get hit anymore in a certain spot. Clementi and Buentello weren’t baiting fouls, but trying to avoid damage. It’s no different than turning your head to avoid getting punched in the face, knowing that your opponent isn’t allowed to hit you in the back of the head.

Turning your head is a defense mechanism and isn’t “playing the game”.
Putting a hand on the ground so the guy can’t knee you is “playing the game”. A good ref knows the difference.

I’m pretty sure “playing the game” means baiting the foul. Just like when a guy is getting hammered in the face, then quickly turns his head, and immediately complains to the ref about getting hit in the back of the head. A good ref doesn’t buy that bullshit.

How in the world did Clementi not finish that fight in the first he had the body lock on and the guy was begging to get chocked. That was embarrasing, why is it that so many guys have to fall flat on their face before they get the memo to take every fighter seriously.

![Scouting Report Update: Weekend Results - April 29th-30th
It was another week of mixed results for fighters selected in the World MMA Scouting Report. #2 Featherweight Taiki Tsuchiya was knocked out by Shooto stalwart and former Champion "Lion" Takeshi Inoue at Shooto Tradition 2011 in Japan. Meanwhile, #6 Lightweight Reza Madadi came away with a controversial decision victory over UFC regular Rich Clementi in what turned out to be a bitterly contested title fight in Madadi's home country of Sweden. During the staredown at the weigh-ins, Clementi responded to an overly aggressive Madadi with a hard headbutt attempt that thankfully missed it's target.
