its an unintentional hilarity orgy
- Couture seems to be getting the best of Fedor early as he has more heart aaaanndd… electricity? Also look at how much damage has been done in the fight yet there is only 2:48 left in the round. I hope no one tells the dev that they dont have boxing esque 3 minute rounds.
-I love how tattoo’s are symbolized by shitty tribal and attitude via sunglasses.
- bring on the “curls while along at the gym” mini game!

I’m guessing that’s the life and energy bar.

it’s just a screenshot to show how the game ‘looks’ on the iphone…It’s not for gameplay. lighten up.

what icon would you use? a heart with a ‘mom’ banner on it?

I think you’re mistaking genuine hilarity with someone shitting on the game. I don’t think he said once that it was a bad game, or anything.
I don’t see how you can’t see how funny the tattoo and attitude icons are, specifically.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Twitter me and what not.
I wonder if there is a slider
that will allow me to Rastafy my fighter by 10%.

not bad if you consider that it's a cellphone game.
I want to try it… I wonder how the controls work….

Somebody hasn't seen the Epic demo for iPhone:
After playing around with this on my iPhone, I don’t think there’s any excuse for a game to look like that.

Difference being
The Epic demo and id’s Rage demo for iPhone were built from the ground up to be graphically impressive demos, not inexpensive tie-ins for a primary game. If you think a game based off of what Epic or id has shown us for the iPhone would be less than $20 than I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you.
Yeah, I was going to say…EA is clearly not putting that kind of money into developing a cell phone game, nor should they.

Right...
It’s not like they develop dozens of games for the iPhone. I mean, if they went to the trouble to make one good backend I’m sure there’s no way they’d be able to reuse that code…
And it’s not like Epic or Id or any other companies have ever licensed their rendering engines…
I guess I also didn’t understand the perspective either – this is just a cell phone game! It’s not like iOS devices are becoming the most popular portable gaming platform or anything!
I honestly don’t know what I was thinking! :-P

You were thinking
“How can I be argumentative and/or negative today?”
Honestly it’s a cellphone game and despite being popular most of the titles have no depth and have very simple controls that can’t compare to PC or home consoles. Also, worth noting that Epic and id haven’t licensed either of the technologies they’ve shown off in those demos because it’s not finished yet. Most of the EA sports titles play really well and look pretty good using available technologies. Oh and they’re fairly inexpensive.
I still won’t buy this though.

Guess what I'm thinking now!
You get the no-prize if you guessed: “Why would he come back for more after that?”
a) You’re still minimizing iOS gaming by comparing it to “a cellphone game.” This makes me wonder if you’re still playing bejeweled on a flip phone. Do you have an Android or iOS device? Have you played any of the Square Enix RPG titles? How about Katamari? Or heck, any of the dozens of highly polished racing games – some of them from Electronic Arts?
b) There are lots of other game engines – Unity, Bork and Shiva all come to mind. But I’m pretty sure you actually got my point which is that doing good graphics on an iPhone is not only possible, but demonstrably so – as demonstrated by Epic. It’s not like Epic and Id are the only people that know how to make a graphics engine. I’m pretty sure EA has some small amount of experience in that field.
c) You actually made my point:
“Most of the EA sports titles play really well and look pretty good using available technologies. Oh and they’re fairly inexpensive.”
…so I’m not sure what you’re arguing about. This is easily the worst looking game EA Mobile has put out – and there’s no indication that this FFVIII looking crap – where, as noted below, Randy looks more like Tito – is going to improve between now and launch time.

tl;dr
My point is this: if you expect a cheap mobile game designed to help sell the console version to be on par with id and Epic’s (studios known for their graphics technologies, who have stated their intention at exploiting the “full potential” of those devices) efforts to make full-fledged (and full priced) games on the iPhone you are seven different kinds of retarded. It’s not meant to be a “graphical tour de force”, it’s a decent looking game, available on the cheap meant to raise awareness of the console version.
by menckenstein on Sep 9, 2010 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions
I played that demo
So far all your playing is wandering around the castle. Not for nothing but when project sword gets finalized and is available and the pricing is out compare it to this game. If this game is cheap why not buy it? Who cares about the graphics youre playing it on the train or bus or where ever. Im playing final fantasy 1 on the iphone sometimes its about the gameplay. If you want better graphics go buy the version made for the consoles.

The point I was making
…in that response to Anton was that his comment that it doesn’t look bad for a cellphone game was false: it is in fact awful looking compared to other iPhone games.
And FFI on the iPhone looks a million times better than this, right?

Just checked out the EA mobile games press release and if you think this looks bad look at the new Sims game thats coming out
by Papercut Elbow on Sep 9, 2010 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions
I have a ton of iPhone games
And a lot of them arent the best in graphics but are still fun. I think the point Anton is trying to make is this is a game to play whilst on your cell phone. Meaning its not for serious gameplay CAN the graphics be better? Yeah it can totally be better but will most iPhone owners even care? i dont know looks like the best all time selling games on the iPhone have crappy graphics. Look at Angry Birds HD that game looks like a child drew it lol

This looks terrible, as do all phone games right now for the most part (my friend has Call of Duty 2 on his running well though), but if I was to ever move from the shitty most basic cell phone to an iPhone I would love this probably. Then get embarrassed if someone saw me playing the training parts behind me on the bus.

This
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." - Jack Burton
The graphics actually look pretty good (better than the console version). I wish they were developing this for the PSP or Nintendo DS instead, how am I going to play this game without any buttons? Touch screen controls suck for fighting games.
