UFC 119 Preview: Sean Sherk Says He Is Better Than Evan Dunham in Striking, Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu
"What I do works and I'm not going to change it now."
"I don't think (Evan Dunham) is going to do anything in the cage that I haven't seen or had done to me before. I've literally fought the best of the best in this industry for a very long time. I've fought for world titles in two different weight classes."
"Let's meet right in he middle of the Octagon and let's fight. Let's see who goes down first."
"I don't see him beating me at any aspect of the game. My striking is faster, it's crisper. My wrestling is better, my jiu-jitsu is better."
"There’s a lot of hungry kids out there, I’m hungry too. I want it. I've been there already. I’ve' had that belt. I loved it. I loved being world champion. I want that again."

You gotta be able to actually reach him to do any damage, Sean.

Yep.
I appreciate the passion, but good luck proving it.
On another note, I wanna see Sherk vs Guida in a boxing match.
Guida would own. He doesn’t have great reach, but his arms do fit his body, and he’s shown great improvement. The combo he threw that broke Dos Anjos’ jaw was beautiful.

Still unbelievable that certain people latch on to reach. You’ve gotta be new to watching any kind of combat sports to think it matters in 99.9% of fights. Matt Serra has the same reach as Sherk, but he was able to hurt GSP standing. What, was he on his tippy-toes and Sean wasn’t? You really think Sherk’s problem was that he didn’t drill his pirouette enough? Retarded. Razor Rob has the same reach as Sherk but nobody says shit.
As dumb as someone saying “Look how long his fingers are, nobody will ever escape his wrist control!”
And that’s my bi-annual troll feeding, thank you.

Sherk gets a lot of hate,
but he’s really only lost to the best of the best. That Edgar loss doesn’t look that bad now. I think he has a very good shot at winning this fight.

He's one of those fighters who has the tools to win
but instead think they’re boxers and nothing else.
Hughes, GSP, Penn, Edgar
Not shabby at all. His ‘bad loss’ was to Edgar, who has turned out to be pretty good after all.

Yeah, I feel sorry for him
He was a big favorite over Edgar because nobody knew how good Edgar was, so when he lost he got bumped down to #10 or so and now even further due to injury. Not really fair given that he beat Florian more convincingly than Maynard did. For all we know he could be #3, as he might be able to beat Maynard and Melendez.
Great Wrestling + Ring Rust + Good Boxing Technique - Reach = Evan Dunham Winning

Sherk is a great great fighter
At his best. Nobody knows what Sherk is like anymore. He’s only lost four times, but he hasn’t won since 2008, and he hasn’t won back to back fights since before he got popped for roids. Dunham is the prospect here, and is favored for that reason.

I’m thinking Sherk is going to try to take this fight to the floor early and often. If he does he will probably win. I think he loses a crappy kickboxing match just based on reach alone.

Can't wait for Sherk-Gurgel

I've heard people talking about his knees giving him problems
As the reason he abandoned his wrestling and became a stand-up fighter for the most part.
Anyone have any sort of real information about this, or is it just a rumor?

Haters are gonna hate and bitches are gonna bitch...
The ring rust bothers me, but Sherk is definitely capable of the upset. Just my gut feeling that because Dunham is being groomed, Dunham will lose. Sherk UD.

Yeah
Sherk has a good chance here. I wouldn’t put any money on it, but he should get some respect.

It bugs me when I see guys like Sherk divert from their wrestling to make a point
The guy has a perfect wrestling build, just a short solid block of muscle, which just so happens to help him avoid submissions when it hits the ground as well. I mean Sherks drive from a shot is great but when he starts trying to use his boxing to make a point that he can strike, he loses fights. He only even really lost his last two fights because of that. Whether it’s the most exciting or not, when it comes down to it, winning fights is what matters and I’d rather see a grinding wrestler like Sherk work what he’s good at than throw it away on gogo-boxing.
I know for sure he has better wrestling and for his sake he better use it because if he thinks he’s going to outbox the much taller and longer Dunhan he’s nuts.

Dunham is An absolute beast its his fight to lose
by Slic Ric on Sep 9, 2010 2:16 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
Why?
He got it from Japanese fans when he fought in Bushido. It’s not like he gave it to himself, or has a retarded but domestic nickname like “The Soul Assassin”.
