Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante faces Josh Thomson in Thomson's hometown of San Jose on Oct 9 as the two lightweights are set to square off in Strikeforce.Saturday, Oct. 9th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, live on Showtime:
The bout was confirmed on Wednesday by Cavalcante's manager, Alex Davis, who spoke with MMAWeekly Radio about the match-up.

I did not think either looked particularly great in their previous wins. I think Thompson by UD.
JZ was one of the most impressive guys on the planet from the start of his career until the Aoki situation which was then followed with a bunch of injuries.

id love to see cavalcante in the UFC
some real interesing fights for him there, id love to see him vs guida
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
He’s a good acquisition, but has a very limited shelf life. Injuries have bogged him down for years and I will be surprised if he even makes it to this fight.

I thought....
I thought Josh Thompson is only allowed to fight Gilbert Melendez in Strikeforce…. I think JZ is going to take to him; this is not a good match-up for Thompson at all IMO.

this is a great match up
and a very nice card. Will be interesting to see if Lindland is completely done or if he can give Rockhold a fight. I think a younger Lindland would smoke Luke, but these days…
And JZ vs Thomson is very interesting. If Thomson can game plan and execute like he did against Melendez in their first fight he can beat any LW. The other question is whether or not JZ’s knees have really recovered from all the injuries.
People forget that JZ has hardly fought any of the LW’s from the old PRIDE pool. He reigned in Hero’s over a shallower pool of talent but in DREAM he lost to Aoki and Kawajiri.

Great fight, great card.
I think this fight is a pick em. They both can wrestle, but I think Thompson’s stand up is better. JZ might have more power though, can’t wait to see it go down.
I just hope
that the winner of this doesn’t get past Beerbohm for the next title shot. Would like to see him step in against Aoki if Aurelio really is injured and not just ducking out of shine fights to avoid suspension.
