Shark Fights 13 Preview: Keith Jardine Says Trevor Prangley "Is Step One on (the) Way Back to a UFC Title"

"My career's not going to be complete until I fight for that UFC title. That's what this is all about for me."

"I've been around something like 13 or 14 fights in the UFC, most of them have been main event or co-main event, so I've seen the pressure before and this one really doesn't compare to some of the other fights. Cause mentally I'm a lot stronger and in a better place right now."

"I never worry about the outcome, I'm just looking to get in a fight. I'm just looking to get into the deep rounds, and get to that point where you're throwing every punch from your soul. See who has the bigger heart, and that's what I hope comes from this fight."

I like Jardine and all but

There’s no way he’s ever going to be reigning champ of the UFC LHW division as it stands now.

Agreed...you can't blame a guy for dreaming,

but there’s no way Jardine ever fights for a UFC title.

by Scott Haber on Sep 8, 2010 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions

He is right up there with Liddell for me...

I like the guy and I would like to thank him for the exciting fights that he has been part of but he seriously should be thinking about retirement and not about a comeback.

by truck on Sep 8, 2010 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

And just like Liddell...

…a stiff breeze could knock him out.

I like Jardine a lot, but unless he gets to fight someone with no arms he’ll never sit atop the division.

A boy can dream

Jardine obviously doesn’t have the physical tools to be a UFC champ but he apparently doesn’t have the right mentality either; how can someone who doesn’t worry about the outcome of their fights ever be a champion?

hahahaha

didnt know jardine had sense of humour

Dana will probably watch this fight and cover his face when the inevitable happens.

Keith Jardine is not getting any younger. He’s been dropped about 8 times or more in his last 8 UFC fights. The only guys that did not drop him was Liddell and Vera.

  • He suffered two knockdowns in at least two of those fights.
  • Something tells me overlooking Houston -no-ground-game Alexander is the turning point in his career.
  • Wow, interesting Jardine fact: He was KO’ed by Iron-Man Travis Wiuff in 6 seconds.
  • Note, Wiuff is a f*ckin fighter with 75 fights and counting. He has 2 losses in the UFC.

Beat me to it...

Looking back now I don’t think there was a more pivotal moment in Jardine’s entire career than that memorable KO courtesy of Houston Alexander.

Immediately afterward (and, in hindsight, for an overly exhausted amount of time), the general fans saw Alexander as positioned to be a potential blitzkrieg in the LHW division; whereas Jardine was somewhat excused for failing to respect his late-replacemant unknown Nebraskan adversary and his later win over Liddell (still believed to be working his way to retaking the title).

The career paths of both Alexander and Liddell following their fights with Jardine reveal a lot about a fighter whose awkward style coupled with early wins brought attention to someone who was far more one-dimensional than anyone couled or cared to see from the very beginning.

A guy who seemed terrified to tangle with Kimbo Slice sketced out the blueprint for any future opponent that has that one-punch KO power. I don’t think Prangley is that much of a longshot.

jardine really isnt that good

once u get past the awkward style he just doesnt have much else to offer

Monkey Thai

I’m not a Keith Jardine fan nor do I feel he is ever going to hold a UFC title
(he’s delusional about that 1) but he has the experience and skill to pick
Trevor Prangley apart. I think the concensus is that Jardine has a weak
chin and I would agree but I do not feel Prangley posseses the skills to
land anything very solid on KJ. I would feel very safe in Jardine winning this
bout via a 1st round (T)KO but it all depends on how aggressive he is either
way jardine via easy (T)KO.

I think fighters have to say they are gunning for the title. It’d be like a baseball team saying they don’t really hope to get to the World Series.

I dunno 'bout that

Most baseball teams are more grounded than that and arent calling out their World Series victory in training camp.

You would think the Vera, Alexander, W Silva, T. Silva, Bader, and Hamill fights might have done that…

Considering Jardine won the fight against Vera he shouldn’t be included in your list.

Jardine beat Forrest who beat the current champ shogun which = Watch yo back Shogun.

The only way jardine doesn’t get the belt is if Rashad wins. In which case The Dean of mean will be forced to spare his friend.

Tough fight to call/wager

Jardine has such a suspect chin. It’s hard to really ever count on him against anyone with power.

Prangley is a career 185er who is primarily a wrestler. However he probably won’t be able to push around a legit 205er like Jardine.

Most likely is Jardine makes this a point karate match and wins a 3 round decision.

This is really an awesome card. Tons of depth:

Never understood exactly what the big deal about Jardine was. He’s not really that great of a fighter. The minute people stopped trying to figure out his style and realized he had a glass jaw, it was the beginning of the end. I think Prangley’s going to knock him out.

by MicahC on Sep 8, 2010 12:34 PM EDT reply actions

Dean is getting KTFO

and then he will begin his run for the UFC title because he will be refocused on better than ever just like every other fighter that loses.

Good luck on that!!

You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci. Two reasons; first of all, I think he's a good actor. Okay. To me, that counts. Second; he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't fuck around. Doesn't fuck around.

Jardine’s best bet to win a Title is to go to Strikeforce, and that would be tough these days. However, from the look of this quote, it looks like he only wants to go back to the UFC.

by chrisbboy82 on Sep 8, 2010 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

I’d be surprised if he even appears in the UFC again unless it’s some late replacement deal, there are plenty of people in any of the other high level promotions that will take advantage of that chin and hand him some more L’s.

by TheKeyboardWarrior on Sep 8, 2010 1:47 PM EDT reply actions

Including Prangley on Saturday night.

by TheKeyboardWarrior on Sep 8, 2010 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Prangley as +175 is a good enough bet for me, Coming off a bad loss or not I don’t see Jardine finishing him or being able to win a dec against a wrestler like Prangley.

by tremblay6 on Sep 8, 2010 2:32 PM EDT reply actions

Prangley is done, he looked pathetic in his last 2 fights Jardine should have a hightlight reel by the time he’s done with this fight.
