You gotta be kidding me with the easy thing
Vera has the better technical striking, he’ll for sure have the edge in the wrestling department, plus I’m pretty sure he has the reach advantage. I see Vera outpointing Silva from a distance for all three rounds.
Josh Barnett is a thrice proven juicer with a pro wrestling mindset and a personality that would lead you to believe he's never had a romantic encounter that didn’t start with "you gotta pay me upfront."
Vera holds those 3 physical advantages in nearly all his fights. It hasn’t seemed to matter

Great fight between two guys who desperately need a victory...
also, two guys who are recovering from injuries – damaged back vs broken face. haha. :)
Very true but in my opinion it’s a must win for Vera ? He needs a Victory much more then Thiago does and I really don’t see him getting it hear ?
I know we keep hearing the rumor the only reason they have held onto Vera this long is for a future philippines show. But I have been hearing that same thing now for over 2+ years and still I don’t see any UFC show planned for downtown Manila anytime soon. I just can’t see the UFC paying Vera to keep going down the same career path that he has been going down for the last few years. Lossing agasint top to mid level competition and when he does get a W its only buy fighting a lower level outclassed opponent at 205 and still Brandon fights a safe tentative fight which turns out to be one bore fest decision win.
Doing enuff just to win agasint lower level competition at 205 is not something Zuffa likes paying out $80,000 to $100,000 a fight for over long periods of time. I would not be one bit surprised at all if he gets a green slip with his check if he drops this fight ?
I think youre being a touch hard on Brandon here
Vera:
-once crushed Frank Mir
-Gave Randy Couture the fight of his life and arguably beat him
-can beat any mid level fighter at LHW and HW on any given night
Am I saying he’s top 5? No, but he’s an elite level fighter nonetheless and he’s earned his place in the UFC imo.
Though I agree he will be cut if he drops this one (and I bet Scott Coker is right there to pick him up for a Hendo or Mousasi fight).

Mad potential....
For an epic standing fight. Buth Vera has burned me on potential so many times and Silva’s injury has burned himself on potential.
Its like 8 matt serras working a regular job
"Tons of blacks and their big black wrists"-Luke Thomas
I think Vera might take this
His striking is tighter, his wrestling is steady. Thiago has a good chance that his aggression will overwhelm Vera, but I just feel like Vera might be able to keep him off guard.

Thiago gets hit a lot, but usually has the power to compensate for it.
Vera has a good chin and is more technical with his strikes.
That being said, I’ve always said that Thiago is a good opponent to force Vera not to be tentative.. Should be a good fight.

More like a "must fight hard" fight for both of them.
I don’t think anyone gets cut if they bring it. But I have a bad feeling Vera will fail to pull the trigger yet again.
I believe in Brandon Vera.
Fuck all y’alls who don’t. Leg kick clinic for a round and a half, some throws from the clinch, and finally ending it by clinch knees to gnp late in the second.

I stopped believing in Vera after Keith Jardine
The Reese Andy borefest was one foot out the door.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
To be fair
a lot of people thought that he beat Couture. After that fight I thought, maybe he still has something to offer and then Bones broke his face.
Fact of the matter is Couture (boringly) controlled him against the fence for much of the fight
And when he had the chance to finish Couture on the body kick he couldn’t do it. Vera had a lousy gameplan and I thought Couture won it 29-28.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Upon multiple viewings, I scored it FUCK THIS FIGHT!
It’s very similar to my scorecard for Cantwell vs. Stann III. Pardon me for seeing two guys locked in a cage and expecting something resembling a fight to break out. If it were ultimate hugging championship or ultimate circling championship then yeah, Couture and Stann won the match in those respective promotions. But neither of them deserved a win and both should have gotten warnings/yellow card equivalents for doing everything they could to prevent a fight.

Couture/Vera really put a damper on an entertaining card
Seriously, the UK fans have gotten 3 sub-standard main events in a row (Bisping/Leben, Sanchez/Stevenson, Couture/Vera). I know Sanchez/Stevenson got FOTN but that was an absolute joke.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.

Vera clearly winning round 2.

I always thought Vera got a little bit jobbed there
And nobody cared because everybody hates Vera and loves Couture.
"I am a man who pisses largely and frequently, which they say is a sign of great mental activity" -Henry Miller-
I stopped caring because he stopped fighting
And is some tentative person who probably got scared once he faced real competition.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Brandon is too smart for the fight game
and if anything, he outthinks himself. He has all the technical ability and athleticism necessary. Taking some time off and reassessing how he fights will change everything. I don’t think we’ll see the “old” Brandon Vera or the so called “tentative” Brandon Vera. We’re going to see somebody who knows how to take their amazing skillset and make shit happen.
Believe it. Know it.

I've said it twice on BE.
The third guy who I’d say it about is Miguel, who out-thought himself against Benavidez. Vera is a walking case study of it, Maia fell victim once or twice.

I meant to clarify that I didn’t mean any offense or nothing, it was just odd because I closed the other thread right after reading your comment and then z-scrolled straight to this one
Just an odd saying, I guess. The problem I see is how “smart” isn’t necessarily the right word, overplanning and over-thinking doesn’t really imply “smart,” but I do see what you mean.
or rather, the worst part about it, is that it can and will probably easily become one of those waaaaaaaaaaaaay overused and cliched phrases.

I know all three guys.
They are all exceptionally smart, well spoken, intelligent people. That’s the common denominator I see. They are all a bit too “normal” to get locked in a cage and fight until another man is rendered incapable of continuing. Seriously, meet any of those guys outside of a fight and you wouldn’t believe what their career is.
I’m also a bit drunk. I love you too, man. I LOVE YOU! (sobbing)

I can see that ...
and yeah, I know a fair bit of fighters and other athletes, and I can pick out who I think are the smart ones. I’m just afraid of yet another cliche we don’t need, you know? I can’t speak to these guys so I can’t say that they’re not smart, but at least in the case of Vera, I can see that without knowing him.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Twitter me and what not.
Round 1: Couture got rocked early, but the judges thought he “won the round” with the only thing he did was fail to takedown Vera, and get one takedown that lasted for around 5 seconds.
Vera clearly won round 2. Giving it to couture would be just plain stupid(er?).
Round 3: Vera hurts randy and gets a takedown and FULLMOUNT….yet they still give it to Randy… If constantly failing on takedown attempts and getting one takedown (where you do nothing for 5 seconds) is enough to win the 1st round, why does a takedown + fullmount mean nothing?
It was incompetent judging, and everyone would be up in arms if Captain America was on the other side of the decision. Sure, Vera could’ve done more to finish the fight on the second, sure, he could’ve improved a lot of the stuff he did on that fight. Sure you can call him out for lacking that “killer instinct”, but he still won that bout…

You see "controlled the action"
I see “failed every single takedown attempt”
when you have a stalemate, you get the the most effective and significant things that happened on each of the rounds… what are those? Rd1. Randy getting rocked — Rd2. Randy getting knocked down and almost finished and Rd3. Randy getting rocked, taken down, and mounted.

After all, one lost to a legend and the fastest rising star, and the other lost to the number 2 and 3 contender.
Vera should be dumped if he loses this. He's 3-5 in his last 8 UFC fights
And his 3 wins are against Mike Patt, Reese Andy, and K-Sos. Not exactly a deadly trio.

and has hardly faced any decent competition throughout his career… Jardine being his only quality win, in a fight where he was eating a ton of shots until Thiago landed a blow, and Jardine’s chin failed him again..

I really like this fight. However, if Vera loses, he may get and probably will get cut from the UFC. Thiago Silva has shown that he will go for the kill, whereas Vera has been cautious and seems to have lost that killer instinct. On technical standup, Vera should win this, but Thiago really puts the pressure on his opponents.
I’ve got Vera here. This fights gonna look a lot more like Kampmann/Thiago than T.Silva/Jardine.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
thiago's gonna mash vera's face in
i still remember vera going on about how his gonna be a 2 time division champ, got a bit ahead of himself there.
Got to go with Vera. Unless he gets overwhelmed, he should easily outstrike Silva. Personally, I hope that Vera elbows and knees the shit out of Thiago, I can’t stand his thug shtick.
"...I don't want to save the World, I don't even want to save me. We're so boring that we don't event want to save ourselves...There's nothing left to say, we're so fucking boring. Let it die I say. Let there be a new beginning...It's awful. Goodnight"
I am not impressed by thiago silva. He has lost to all his top competition he has faced including rashad evans who beat the shit out of him and then when he had him hurt taunted him till he got his witts back and took him down….again. Vera has a wrestling base and nasty muy thai. Def. not impressed by the jones fight but hey Jones is gonna run through everyone. Vera did more damage in the Couture fight he just got controlled against the cage. If Vera controls the range and unleashes his kicks he will take this one. If it becomes a brawl Thiago will take it.
