UFC 120 Preview: Mike Pyle Says John Hathaway "Is In For The Fight of His Life"

"I will beat the sh*t out of John Hathaway. Let's face it; the fight that he had with Diego (Sanchez) wasn't an awesome, back-and-forth fight. Diego's a small, somewhat average (sized) [155-pound fighter]."-- Check out the full interview with Mike Pyle at mmajunkie.com.
"I'm a big welterweight, I'm a long welterweight. He’s fought a lot of shorter opponents. He's had a reach advantage, and he's been able to use that really well. He stayed away from actually having to get in a fight with [Diego]."
"It's not an, 'Oh my god, if I don't get (John Hathaway) down, there's nothing I can do (situation)’. I could knock the kid out. I almost knocked out the last dude. This kid's going to be in for hell. I ain't Diego Sanchez. His last fight was a good and easy fight. This time, he's in for the fight of his life."
"I can't wait for (the British fans) to boo me. I'm going to suck it all up and spit it right back out at all them crooked-teethed Englishmen."

Good gravy people
let’s remember, Sonnen did not invent trash talking in sports.
Josh Barnett is a thrice proven juicer with a pro wrestling mindset and a personality that would lead you to believe he's never had a romantic encounter that didn’t start with "you gotta pay me upfront."

i like the confidence
but i think pyle gets tooled in this
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
"I could knock the kid out. I almost knocked out the last dude."
Man, I’m sure Hathaway is shitting himself. If you almost knock him out like you did the last dude, there’s a chance he might not win!
This crooked-toothed Englishman is gonna go nuts when Hathaway smashes Pyle.
Goldberg: "He's got him in some kind of strange choke I've never seen before!"
Rogan: "That's a rear naked choke."
Am I the only guy who followed Pyle's career pre-Zuffa?
He is NOT taking a cue from Chael Sonnen. Pyle has always been something of an immature jackass and huge shit talker. The only thing different is that people are actually paying attention to his interviews now.

People are way high on Hathaway
just for beating an untrained, mentally shot Diego Sanchez.

He's fought one guy with an American wrestling pedigree
and it was the smallest guy in the division who threw away his good camp to not train and didn’t ever wrestle collegiately.
Excuse me for not being totally sold on him. I’d like a fight with Mike Pierce and see how that works out. If he looks good there, I’ll be a believer.

Does the name Ricky “Horror” Story ring a bell?
The guy who everyone is so high on after his mauling of Dustin Hazelett? The guy who was a runner up for the 2006 NAIA 184 pound wrestling championship? The guy who is riding a four fight winning streak in the UFC?
Hathaway already whooped that ass.

Almost doesn't count
And you’re failing at Chael’ing.

Hathaway is in the fight of his life
It’s always hard to choose between KO and submission.

Why is he bashing Sanchez?
Sanchez has fought the tougher in the last while and I think that Sanchez could beat Hathaway if they fought again. I have been watchin some old fights and Sanchez was off against Hathaway and didn’t have that same intensity you usually see when Diego fights.

Sanchez is a lost cause if he loses to Thiago.

Odd way to talk
when you cant string together more then one win at a time
Wow
I like how this guy talks so much $hit and Sanchez and Hathaway have accomplished much more. Anybody that has fought for the belt is something special anybody that has made it in the ufc and sports a undefeated record is also something special. Pyle runs his suck and can’t even win 2 fights in a row in the ufc. If your gonna talk shit atkeast be in the position to do so.

Pyle's got to believe that pile he's spouting....
Because from any objective standpoint, Hathaway is the clear favorite. If you don’t believe yourself that you can win, you’ve already lost. Hathaway is on a real tear in the UFC, has some serious all around skill, and he’s seems to have a stronger desire to win and move up than Pyle.
The fact of the matter is that trash talking helps build interest in MMA fights. Whether Pyle himself believes what he is saying or not is irrelevant, but building hype for this fight is what matters. Regardless of Pyle’s trash talking, I feel that Hathaway will take this. His striking has shown improvement, his cardio helps him stay very active in any position, and his top game and ground n pound is deadly. Pyle has great BJJ for MMA, and that will be a good test for Hathaway. However, beating Rick Story and Diego Sanchez is no small feat.
Loving this fight!
I always back Pyle as is ground game is always great to see, such an active guard.
Im from the UK and I think its good hes taking this route trying to get peoples backs up(play the heel) as he knows loosing this fight would put his UFC career on very shaky ground and I sure as hell don’t want to see that!
I was at 105 and was great when Riddle acted like a total ass to the crowed got everyone going.
Fights going to be a good one but cant see anything other than a Hathaway win.

![Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson blogs about his recent win over Cyrille Diabate at UFC 120
"Let's do a quick fight analysis: I was ready to go the distance with Cyrille, I knew that he was a good striker, decent on the ground and hard to knock out. When the fight started I right away felt that my punches and combos were hitting him and that he couldn't keep up with my pace. The game plan was to take him down and be on top striking, but during the fight I felt that it was going so well, so I kept boxing with him. In the second round I took him down, got on top, he had a strong under hook but I managed to sprawl, established mount and took him out with a rear naked choke on the third attempt, I don't think it was sunk in either but he didn't want to be in the fight any more. I did some small mistakes that I will fix for my next fight.
Answers to questions: I will be traveling to Alliance MMA before my fights and also during off season. I hope to write a new [UFC] contract soon, but I haven't heard anything yet. My financial situation is better after this fight, I won't be working the doors at clubs anymore, just training full time! I would like to face most fighters in my division but Tito Ortiz would be a good name ;) I haven't heard anything about Lil Nog but if I got the opportunity it would be an honor!"
