Junior dos Santos's Coach Says Junior Will Be Champion - "The Time Has Come"
"(Junior dos Santos's) expecting to see who he’ll confront (after UFC 121) because they’re two great athletes, the fight would be tough against any of them… I always say: (Junior's) constantly evolving, so you’ll see him a lot better than before, with willingness, personality, a real warrior… He knows that it’ll be worth the title and he’ll do everything in his power in order to win this. After this fight, he’ll be the champion."
"It’ll be a very tough fight, Cain (Velasquez) does his game and it’s pretty efficient, and Brock Lesnar is very strong, dangerous… I can’t say much now, it’ll be a tough fight and let’s see who is the best fighter in there."
"(Junior dos Santos) deserves all of this because of everything he’s been doing. He’s only had tough (fights) on his way, but there’s no easy (fights in the) UFC. He’s been tested several times and now I think the time has come. He showed his abilities while standing up, he proved himself to be very strong. Six fights, six critical wins."
-- Junior dos Santos, boxing coach, Luis Dorea talks to tatame.com.

I agree
Super Bowl weekend will be less than perfect for Brock or Cain.
That is a very impressive win list. The only thing missing is a high caliber wrestler or two. His camp claims that he is hard to get down, and hold down, but Houston Alexander once claimed something similar. We shall see.
Did you see the size of that chicken?
Well, given that he stood up on Gonzaga like nothing
I think they are on to something. So I don’t think it’s fair to compare him to Houston, as he has already displayed he is competent on the ground.
Now whether he is competent enough to Handle Cain or Brock is a different story. I think he is.
Standing up on Gonzaga =/= standing up on an elite wrestler
I like JDS, a lot, and greatly enjoy watching him fight, but when Lesnar puts him on his back he will not be getting back up.
Should Cain win, the same goes. Cain is a better pure wrestler IMO than Brock, but probably can’t match his top control in MMA. Having said that, Cain should have little problem keeping him down either, although JDS certainly appears considerably stronger than Cain…then again, so did many of his NCAA opponents he took out, so take it FWIW…

Yeah, I agree.
My point is really that Houston was not an apt comparison as he proved to be a pure novice on the ground. From that exchange we can surmise that JDS is much more adept at the ground game.
In no way do I see JDS winning on the ground. I think if he does take the fight against either of them it will be only if he can finish or severely injure them in the first 2 rounds. The later the fights go, the less I like his chances. At the very least, he has a better chance then most with his striking.
That's true
I am no expert on boxing, but it seems he has shown some lapses in his striking defense. Of course, Lesnar showed huge holes (and considerable regression IMO) in his striking, and I suspect JDS wins a stand-up battle with Cain if he is so foolish as to engage him.
Carwin, gaping holes he has in his stand-up game not withstanding, might be the only one who could exploit JDS’ striking defensive holes…so long as its in the 1st round…
Of course, Gonzaga rocked Carwin, and JDS appears to be more powerful by far, so Shane could get KTFO…
Good times in HW, even if it get really shallow really quickly after the top guys.

And JDS probably doesn’t hit as hard as Carwin. Brock sure didn’t look scared with his hand raised in victory at the end of that fight. When this fight hits the ground, and it will, Lesnar will make quick work of JDS.

I find more entertainment in Carwin’s loss than Brock’s win. Let me know which other UFC champs run from punches and then turtles up in fear. He can keep winning and I wouldn’t care because Brock’s fights are hilarious. Looking forward to more of Brock’s track meets in the future!

No one on here will try to tell you that Brock was rocked, and absolutly lost round 1 to Carwin. But who would want to stand infront of Carwin and get punched? Thats like calling Chael Sonnen less of a fighter cause he was trying to take down Anderson throughout their fight, instead of standing infront of his punches… It doesn’t make sence
And Worldisart is an expert on the proper way to write an opinion
Just ask him. And the proper use of the term troll, and the proper use of the term “man crush” etc, ect. In fact, if you ask him, he knows how everything should be done, and he doesn’t like it if anyone does anything outside of his ideal.

i disagree
JDS hasn’t beaten anyone championship caliber, except werdum. he decisioned big country and took out an overhyped gonzaga (who lost TWICE to werdum via PUNCHES!). i don’t like his odds.
between cain and lesnar though, i’m taking cain. he’s got great wrestling credentials, to at least stave off the brocklesnar, with the hands to back it up. 7 of 8 wins via punches. boom.
everything dana white says is a complete lie
JDS has fought some tough guys
And he might well have been a dominant champ…before 2009.
In the era of elite MMA Wrestlers however, he has the “puncher’s chance” before he gets taken down and that’s about it.

JDS is a beast but
I think he would get beat by Brock or Cain. Judging by the fact he couldn’t finish Big country, I see no way for him to beat them. I think they would put him on his ass before he knew what hit him.
I'm gonna give you three seconds; exactly three-fucking-seconds to wipe that stupid looking grin off your face or I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-fuck you!
In all fairness
Who all has finished Nelson? Arlovski, as far as he has fallen, the man has some very sharp boxing. I don’t have Dos Santos Favored to be eaither man, but I’m not counting him out based on him not finishing someone who is notoriously hard to finish.
I think finishes are overvalued
But I think the point he’s trying to make is that JDS will probably have to finish Brock or Cain to win as their strong top games will make it hard to out point them to a decision.

I see. I can agree, if he can’t hurt them before they put him on his back he is in trouble. I do do think he has the tools, specifically for Lesnar. I think he would have some of the fastest hands Lesnar has faced, with power to boot. Once again, while I don’t have him favored in either match up, I do think he has a real chance.
I’m not saying he couldn’t win because he very well could. I’m just saying that it seems highly unlikely. Unless he could tag them and put them down before they get ahold of him, I think he would be in for a bad night.
I'm gonna give you three seconds; exactly three-fucking-seconds to wipe that stupid looking grin off your face or I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-fuck you!
You could just as easily say judging by the way he folded Werdum, that he would drop Cain. Afterall, Kongo dropped Cain.

cain vs brock
cain has a legit shot. he might have a much better shot than carwin. but what will happen if brock beats cain? lol all the haters of brock keep comming up with excuses against his wins. o he was running scared, and? his hand was raised was it not? now every1 is hoping cain wins, and he does have a legit shot, but if brock wins, im interested to see what the haters have to say bc they are comical. JDS can not beat brock. he couldnt KO roy. No way he KO’s brock. also every1 is like o man roy could TD JDS how can brock. lol once again comical.
Brock has ZERO striking defense
We saw it at UFC 100, where Mir had a free shot but was too f***ed up from the first round to connect. We saw it at UFC 116 when Carwin’s unrefined (but powerful) striking connected with ease. Carwin gave that win to him when he gassed and was in a state that even a washed out Nog could finish.
Velasquez is a small HW, and Brock could possibly use his size on Cain. That bout is 50/50, IMO. If Brock gets by Cain, though, JDS will destroy him. I know JDS is the same weight as Cain, but his frame is entirely different.
JDS vs Cain is a different matter, though. Assuming Cain doesn’t have the same gaping hole in his striking (it was there against Kongo, but he’s transformed since then), the matchup is entirely different.
I’m a big fan of JDS, he’s really out there destroying people and he seems like a good guy. It does worry me though that he gets hit a little too easy, his defense is not the best and that might catch up to him. Also we don’t know much about his ground yet.. either way, I hope he’s working diligently on takedown defense, getting up from the ground, and to improve his defensive boxing. It will be a great fight with whoever is the champion by then, glad to see JDS get his shot. Three awesome and epic UFC HW title fights in a row.. who’da thunk it?
Does anyone honestly care
What the coaches have to think? Do they ever think that their fighter is going to loose? Its a damn joke.
Well sometimes they give you some more information than just “I think he’ll win”.. about, you know, training and stuff, which can be interesting.

His wrestling may not keep from hitting the mat(against brock and cain) But alot of people forget he is Big Nog’s protege. After training with Nog for a few years I believe he will be able to beat any top level wrestlers in a 5 round fight.
