should be a fun fight. Will be interesting to see how Gomi handles Siver’s kicking game.

Card

If they don’t get a decent co-main event this will be the worst non-TUF Finale/Fight Night card in UFC history on paper.

by StripclubPapst on Sep 4, 2010 11:54 AM EDT reply actions

I was going to say the same thing. Not a single fight other than the main event really gets me interested.

river-sakara

does nothing for you?

by Scott Haber on Sep 4, 2010 12:05 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I like this fight a lot

Rivera is making a final push as an aging fighter and Sakara with a win takes a step up in competition.

I think most bouts will end up being pretty exciting but on paper this should be called Bum Fights 122.

im not sure what the difference is between free ufc card (numbered) and fight nights
but this is def close to a fight night
im sure itll be fun to watch and exciting
but only one fight that has title implications

by Richard Doughty on Sep 4, 2010 12:06 PM EDT reply actions

Not entirely sure, but I think it goes

held in the U.S./Canada= fight nights
Free broadcasts from overseas= numbered events

Holy hell, this is a bad card.

Besides Okami/Belfort and Rivera/Sakara

I’m not really interested at all. Happy it’s a free card because I wouldn’t have paid for it. Joe Silva does really well at booking but it just seems like this is a case of “everyone’s booked already and we gotta get okami/belfort in before 2011”

I’m also interested at seeing Vemola at 205. I just hope this isn’t a loser leaves town match.

Im surprised people still havent caught onto this...

The cards that have lots of mid-tier or new or turn-around fighters on it tend to be really exciting fights because the fighters let everything go to win. When you get cards full of upper echelon and contenders and title fights, the fighters have so much more to lose from a loss that they fight more conservatively and the fights are generally less action packed.

This is of course, only a rule of thumb and there are exceptions, but time and time again, when cards with fights like this are announced, everyone poo-poos their disinterest (in the fighters) but the fights themselves turn out to be wicked good.

by Cocytus on Sep 4, 2010 12:14 PM EDT reply actions

I would rather watch a less exciting fight with fighter I care about than some random guys. WEC puts on exciting fights but know care about the fighters so there not watched.

by Kefka on Sep 4, 2010 12:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm completely the opposite

I don’t care who’s fighting as long as the fight is good. I’ve seen great fights from people I’ve never heard of and terrible fights from people who are famous. Given the choice, why would you ever pick a less exciting fight?

by ricker2005 on Sep 4, 2010 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions   2 recs

Because I don’t care about the fighters involved, I don’t know them, there winning does not matter to me. And my view of an exciting fight may be different than others. I like I don’t like brawls like that Korean Zombie fight. I don’t care for the wrestle/boxing standard mma fighter. I like Judo throws, kicks, BJJ and unorthodox moves like spinning elbows(Jon Jones is the man btw).

Im an MMA fan

I like it all and will never complain about a free card. I’d watch all the prelims if they would televise them. That’s how you find out about fighters that will turn into somebody more relevant.

Can they really sell tickets in Germany on the UFC brand alone? Maybe that is what they are trying to figure out.

by xDieseLx on Sep 4, 2010 12:19 PM EDT reply actions

i cant believe 90% of the comments in this thread

Are complaints. After the string of absolutely stacked cards the UFC has put on, to bitch about a FREE card seems a Tad entitled, doesn’t it?

I mean cmon guys, are you MMA fans or not? If Krazy Horse vs. Baroni was the main event, and it went downhill from there, I’d still watch as long as its free.

German fans might be ticked though.

Big nog’s injury and losing Cro Cop really sucked the oxygen out of this card, i really think they would have went with Cro Cop Randy as the main and Belfort Okami as co-main.

I watched winner vs. lentz at 118 live at 3 in the morning (I live in Germany). I was dead tired, it was one of the most boring fights i’ve ever seen. I’ve never fought so hard against sleep as during these 15 minutes. No chance Brilz vs. Janitor can even come close to this kind of boredom.

UFC is UFC, and if it’s free I’d watch it … except for tape delay. It takes me out of the “intrigue” element. I don’t see anything good about watching fights that already happened, so I’ll be skipping this and reading over the winners and losers.

And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

by James Brady on Sep 4, 2010 4:35 PM EDT reply actions

But if you don’t read any spoilers, what’s the difference? If you haven’t read the results, the fights might as well be live events for all intents and purposes. You’ll still be surprised with a crazy sub or a comeback victory.

I’m pretty sure it’s a corollary to the whole Schrodinger’s Cat deal.

by ricker2005 on Sep 4, 2010 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not really trying to complain or anything.

It’s just not for me. It’s a mental thing, something that occurs in my head whether I want it to or not. It desensitizes me and I just am not excited watching it on tape delay. I wish they’d air it live, regardless of the time here. a lot of stations have throw-away channels and everything like that. Don’t waste any time advertising it.

Then again, that takes eyeballs away from the tape delay, so the best solution for me is to just do my best not to care about the card even though I eat up all MMA I can.

And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

“I don’t see anything good about watching fights that already happened”.

So you just skipped over essential moments in MMA history like Rampage vs Henderson and Cro Cop vs Gonzaga cause they aired on tape delay? Also, does this mean you don’t go back and watch old fights? Do you just read their records and rely on that?

I’m from Southern Germany and was thinking of attending this show. I’m really excited about the main event, Belfort is a legend and Okami has looked amazing lately. The other fights are decent, but I’m not sure yet whether I really want to travel the 300 miles for the show. I will probably do it, since I missed 99, and I still regret it.

I hope Siver gets a decent opponent. With his wins over the likes of Fisher and Kelly I think he should draw a top 10 155er, which could fire up the card.

Sobotta is one of Germany’s better prospects, but he just started training on a pro-level. His loss as 99 was disappointing, I hope he gets the better of Amir. Rivera vs. Sakara and Brilz vs. the Janitor could be good too.

It’s too bad that the UFC needed a replacement for nog and booked cro cop for 119. cro cop is one of the more popular fighters in germany and he would have sold quite a number of tickets on his own. with only belfort as a name fighter on this card, I doubt the UFC will really sell a lot of tickets. I sometimes visit a German message board discussing MMA and quite a lot of people are not willing to pay for this card.

yes, there a number of hardcore fans also in Germany who are excited for belfort vs. okami, but i doubt the base is big enough with that fight alone. We’ll see.

by Tyrion on Sep 4, 2010 5:51 PM EDT reply actions

The UFC will really struggle selling 12k seats for this Event.

They better get Cro Cop on the card, so that the croats can come.

I, personally won’t even bother getting Tickets.
The Okami/Belfort fight is great, but there’s no other guys on the card, who could change my mind.

by KOQ24 on Sep 4, 2010 6:38 PM EDT reply actions

ill watch but....

I will still bitch even though the card is free. When they number the event instead of calling it UFN or a TUF Finale, I think everyone expects atleast a few fights that have real divisional relevance. Theres only one fight on this card that features ANYONE ranked in the USATODAY/SBN Consensus Rankings!

Like i said ill def watch because i am a fuking mma fanatic, but could’nt they throw us a bone with something like a Gomi vs Sotripolous co main event? PLEASE??

by MMAruinedME on Sep 4, 2010 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

This will surely sell at least 800 tickets in the German market.

by JimmersonzGlove on Sep 4, 2010 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

They can’t honestly expect German fans to buy a card with GORAN RELJIC in the co main can they?!! They should seriously think about shifting Shields-Kampmann to this card.

by T.C. Engel on Sep 4, 2010 8:41 PM EDT reply actions

Zuffa is attempting to build Jake as a draw. That is why they put him on a Lesnar card. The last thing they want to do is take their shiny new toy and bury him on an overseas show that nobody is going to watch live.

by Steve4192 on Sep 4, 2010 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Who said Reljic is the co-main event?

You guys really need to simmer down with the bitching and moaning about crappy cards. Every time we post an update about a developing event, dozens of you jump to conclusions about a card that’s not even close to complete yet. Nick chose to list the Reljic fight second in his post, but that does NOT mean it’s the co-main event.
