UFC 123 Preview: Karo Parisyan Says the UFC Knows "That I Can Become a Contender Again"
"(Dana White) told me to get a fight under my belt. He told me to get my life back on track and that’s what I did."
"My issues had to do with my anxiety problems and panic attacks. Painkillers were thrown out there, but that wasn’t it."
"I spoke to a psychologist and he pointed out that I’ve been fighting since I was 14 years old, and that I had this balloon filling in my stomach with all my fight anxiety over the years. That’s what I’ve been addressing and working on."
"I think the UFC knows I still have something I can accomplish in the cage. They know that I can become a contender again and I will."

Karo can become a contender.
He did beat Stun Gun and can still really be competitive. I hope he does well.
He’s going to fail miserably. He looked awful at Impact, absolutely awful, and if that’s any indication… he’s going to have problems with guys in the low-to-mid tier of the division. Stun Gun kills him in a rematch at this point unless Karo gets his head out of his ass. Hopefully, the UFC’s renewed faith in him will get him motivated.

Painkillers were thrown out there, but that wasn’t it.
From experience that quote tells me Karo is full of shit. Karo tested positive for a junkie cocktail not a vicodin for a tooth ache. Admitting you had or have a problem is (again from my own experience) a big fucking deal.

True, dismissing it like that is not a good sign at all.

Stun Gun beat him in the first match according to my card.

Why didn't you turn it in at the end of the fight then?
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Thats decision was
Controversial to say the least, but yea he did get the win at first. Here ’s to hoping he does well in his next UFC run, I have always enjoyed him.

Karo was a contender
But I never saw his game evolve at all.

Hey Nick, just to let you know
You got Hallmans record off by 31. Plus, I don’t get why this fight is happening. Hallman said he wanted to drop to 155. What’s holding him back from cutting?
a big-money third match against Hughes, probably.

I don't care if he ever gets back in title contention
I like the way he fights. Keep tossing him mid-level fighters and let him throw them around for 3 rounds.

I'm rooting for him to make a successful comeback ...
… but I suspect he has not conquered his demons yet.

listen, bro
i like the way Karo fights when he’s motivated, bro. but i really hate the way he, you know, bro, the thing is — look, bro, sometimes shit is messed up, you know? sometimes he has the pills for the anxiety, bro, but sometimes he has the anxiety for the pills. you know what i’m saying, bro? cool.
that said, my money is on him being one-and-done in the UFC in this latest episode of “How the Parisyan Turns.”

Perfect example of a finish fetishist.
Karo might not have been very exciting at the tail end of his UFC career, but a shitload of his fights that went to decision were INCREDIBLY entertaining FOTY caliber stuff. When Karo’s head is right, he is one of the most exciting fighters in the sport, regardless of whether he finishes or not.
This
“I spoke to a psychologist and he pointed out that I’ve been fighting since I was 14 years old, and that I had this balloon filling in my stomach with all my fight anxiety over the years. That’s what I’ve been addressing and working on.”
Is not something that goes away easily, especially for a high level athlete. It could take years and you would need to stop the activity causing the anxiety for a substantial period. I can’t imagine DW’s thinking with this. But I didn’t understand his thinking with the Kimbo and James Toney fiasco’s. Zuffa has to be getting desperate these days to get some PPV numbers.
Yeah, theyre really getting desperate
What with the two back to back months of 1 million plus PPV buys and they’re biggest year in PPV revenue ever not even two thirds over yet.

I say the winner of Karo vs. Hallman gets Hughes in 2011
Hallman has those wins over Hughes, and Karo has always nursed a beef with Hughes over the years, one he returned. Either guy would get him out of bed and (most likely) give him another big win they can use to sell Hughes/Penn 3 in Hawaii (a guy can hope).

This has disaster written all over it...
and if I was Karo, I wouldn’t be so quick to take my last shot in the UFC again. I’m certain that if anything goes bad here, including a complete lack luster performance, Karo is done with the UFC for good. If I was him, I would want my A+ game ready before taking this shot.
