WEC 51: Aldo vs. Gamburyan - Live Results and Commentary

As with every major show, BloodyElbow.com will be here to bring you live results and commentary for WEC 51: Aldo vs. Gamburyan.  The live blog will start with the beginning of the Versus broadcast (at 9 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event. 

As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

Jose Aldo vs. Manny Gamburyan
Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner
Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia
Chan Sung Jung vs. George Roop
Leonard Garcia vs. Mark Hominick

Leonard Garcia vs. Mark Hominick - Round 1 - Garcia throwing big power shots that don't land early. High kick blocked by Hominick. Overhand right from Garcia glances off Hominick's head. Garcia with the head kick which is blocked and Hominick lands a right hand. Hard leg kick by Garcia. Jab by Hominick. Garcia goes back to the leg kick. Jab by Hominick again. Hominick is looking to throw short straight punches and he's landing a bit but Garcia is landing the heavier blows. Leg kick by Garcia again. The round comes to a close and Garcia should have it 10-9.

Round 2 - Both guys come out throwing hard and Carcia lands a left but misses a punch and almost falls down. Hominick with some body shots and a right hand and left hand. HOminick landing much better this round. Garcia is throwing his big strikes but mostly missing. Garcia continues to miss but throw a lot while Hominick lands hard jabs and a very nice counter left that staggers Garcia. Leg kick by Garcia. Leg kick by Hominick now. Right hand by Homininck. Hominick with a left hook. Garcia with a nice punch and the round ends. Clear 10-9 Hominick round.

Round 3 -Body shot by Garcia early. Jab by Hominick lands. Garcia wings punches that keep missing. Body shot by Hominick. Hominick with hard shots and Garcia is pretty busted up at this point. Hominick is so slick here avoiding getting hit and landing his own hard punches. Garcia charges in with a missed punch and failed takedown. Hominick keeps going back to the body and it's really paying out now. Left hand by Hominick drops Garcia for a second. Right hand again for Hominick. Left hand counter for Hominick and Garcia misses a head kick and a few punches. Rounds 2 and 3 were pure art in terms of striking by Hominick. Garcia getting the decision here would be a crime. 29-28 on my card for Hominick.

George Roop vs. Chan Sung Jung - Round 1 - Leg kick by Jung and a hard jab by Roop. Jung with the leg kick again and they trade punches. Garcia counters a jab with a low kick. Big uppercut lands for Jung. Body kicks by Roop now. Roop with an overhand right and then back to the jab. Body punch is countered by a body kick by Jung. Roop lands some punches against the cage and Jung lands a knee to the body. The round ends after a few more similar exchanges and I'd score that 10-9 Roop.

Round 2 - Body kick by Jung early in the round. Head kick by Roop lands. Right hand by Jung and now he starts firing big punches but they almost all miss completely. Head kick lands HUGE for Roop and Jung is out cold. Oh my, that was brutal. George Roop wins by KO (head kick), round 2.

Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia - Round 1 - Torres with a few jabs but doesn't quite have his range yet. Valencia just misses with the head kick. Torres is trying to back Valencia up into the cage and he's slowly cutting the cage off. Right hand by Torres. Valencia fires and misses with a punch. Torres with a jab and now he unloads. Torres working well from the clinch landing punches and knees before they break. Accidental low blow by Torres and there's a short recovery break. Torres lands hard and Valencia is on his back. Torres pounces and lands a flurry of hard punches before the round ends. 10-9 Torres.

Round 2- Overhand right by Valencia misses. Right hand by Torres hurts Valencia and now a couple of big body shots put Valencia down. Torres with some big shots and a knee as Valencia stands and Torres is on top now taking Valencia's back. Torres with the body triangle and he's looking for the rear naked choke. Shots to the body looking to open the choke up. Torres sinks it in and Valencia is forced to tap. Miguel Torres wins by submission (rear naked choke), round 2.

Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner - Round 1- Cerrone charges in and presses Varner into the cage. Big knee by Cerrone hurts Varner and Varner runs to buy himself time. Varner manages to recover. Two punch combo by Varner lands. Left hook lands hard by Varner and now an uppercut from the clinch after Cerrone failed on a takedown attempt. Leg kick by Cerrone. Cerrone with the takedown and Varner manages to stand and lands a shot.  Two punch combo lands hard for Varner and he has rebounded very well from getting hurt early. Left hand, leg kick by Cerrone. Left hand again by Cerrone. Cerrone misses with a high kick. Left hand by Cerrone and Varner is caught off balance. They're trading big shots and Varner lands a pair of very hard punches. 10-9 Cerrone but Varner made it close.

Round 2 -Two hard punches by Varner and Cerrone with a body kick. Body shot by Varner lands solid. Body shot big right hand by Varner. Now Cerrone with a takeodwn. Cerrone to side control and Varner spins and stands up. Knee by Cerrone. Left hand by Cerrone lands. Right hand by Varner. Cerrone shoots and Varner defends. Left hand by Varner. Nice hard leg kick by Cerrone. Varner shoots and Cerrone defends. 10-9 Varner round to even it up.

Round 3 - Hard kick by Cerrone lands. Right hand by Varner lands hard. Huge right hand by Varner and Cerrone walks through it and lands a knee. Cerrone with another takedown now. Cerrone landing a few elbows.Cerrone keeps working to the elbows and now as he tries to pass Varner turns and stands up. Low kicks by Cerrone. Varner checking the clock. After the bell they touch gloves and Cerrone then sticks a forearm in Varner's face. Combine that with flipping off Varner between rounds and some of the other actions during the fight and I'd honestly like to see the WEC hand down a little punishment. Still, Cerrone 29-28

Official Scorecards: 30-27 across the board for Cerrone. Donald Cerrone wins by unanimous decision.

Jose Aldo vs. Manny Gamburyan - Round 1 - Gamburyan throws a big right hand that backs up Aldo right away but Aldo is fine. Knee by Aldo. Manny looking to land leg kicks. Punch and a big leg kick by Aldo. Gamburyan throws some hard punches that hit air. Aldo back to the leg kick. Very slow round so far and it's drawing some boos from the fans. Body kick by Aldo. Huge low kick by Aldo. There is a hugewelt on Gamburyan's leg. Right hand by Manny and he's saying he was poked in the eye but Herb Dean didn't see it and tells him to fight. Manny shoots and can't get the takedown and the round ends. 10-9 Aldo.

Round 2 - Manny comes out hard and looks for a single leg but can't get the takedown. Hard body kick and hard leg kick by Aldo. Right hand by Aldo hurts Manny and now a huge uppercut. Manny is down and Aldo is on his back landing absolute bombs and Manny is out. Brutal end to the fight. Jose Aldo wins by KO (punches), round 2.
