Bellator 31 - Live Results and Commentary

Photo

As with every major show, BloodyElbow.com will be here to bring you live results and commentary for Bellator 31.  The live blog will start with the beginning of the Fox Sports Net broadcast (at 8 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.

As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

The FSN broadcast is live. Results are after the jump.

Bellator 31 coverage

Star-divide

Chris Lozano vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida - Round 1 - Lozano comes out using outside movement and Yoshida lands a right hand, closes in and pushes Lozano into the cage. Lozano doing a good job of avoiding the takedown so Yoshida lands a pair of knees. Yoshida with a nice takedown to side control now and he passes almost to full mount but gets a leg sucked in to half guard. Lozano does a nice job of getting up and lands a punch to the body and pushes Yoshida into the cage. Spinning elbow by Lozano and and few nice punches. Lozano counters a punch by Yoshida and Yoshida is hurt. Lozano follows him to the ground and lands big shots. Yoshida gets up and he looks like he's clearing his head up a bit now. Right hand by Lozano. Dirty boxing uppercuts by Yoshida. Lozano tries an ill advised throw and ends up with Yoshida almost taking his back but he manages to turn and get on top. Yoshida with a straight armbar threat that he uses to sweep and the round ends. 10-9 Lozano for the bigger damage.

Round 2 - Right hand by Yoshida lands solid and he closes in and presses Lozano into the cage. Big knees by Lozano and he puts Yoshida on his back briefly and he bounces up to get the single leg. Lozano on top now landing big elbows to the body. Lozano works for mount and gets swept. Yoshida tries to take the back and then almost moves to an armbar but instead ends up on his back eating big shots from Lozano.

Round 3 - Round three will not happen as Yoshida's right eye is swollen completely shut. Very nasty stuff.

Chris Lozano wins by TKO (swollen eye).

Jessica Aguilar vs. Zoila Frausto - Round 1 - Frausto is working outside with long straight punches trying to keep Aguilar from getting in close. Right hand lands for Aguilar. Jab by Frausto. Right hand counter by Aguilar just misses. Right hand lands by Frausto. Hard leg kick by Frausto and a right hand so Aguilar decides that is enough standing up and she pushes Frausto into the cage looking for the takedown but can't get it. Leg kick by Frausto and Aguilar throws a right hand counter. Frausto throwing hard punches with 20 seconds left but not landing. 10-9 Frausto

Round 2 - Left hook early by Frausto. They exchange punches now. Glancing right hand by Aguilar. Nice solid right by Aguilar now. Frausto working the leg kicks now. Head kick by Frausto is blocked. Frausto doing work with the leg kicks but it's not going to overcome the counter rights that Aguilar keeps landing. 10-9 round for Aguilar.

Round 3 - Nice jab from both women early in the round. Two punch combo by Aguilar. Right hand again for Aguilar and she is taking things over. Left hook lands for Aguilar. Whatever action has happened this round has been by Aguilar and she lands another right. With one minute left it's my opinion that Frausto needs to do something huge. Frausto looks for the takedown and can't get it. Head kick by Frausto is blocked. Round ends and it's 10-9 Aguilar.

Zoila Frausto wins by split decision.

Kid Nate taking over -- and since I can't actually watch Bellator (thanks FSN!) I'll be using Satarma's commentary from Gal's Guide to MMA:

Megumi Fujii vs. Lisa Ward

Ward is the one person that Megumi and Josh Barnett both thought would pose the biggest problem for Fujii.  We'll see how this goes.  Krycek again!  Woot!

Round one:  Trading early, some power shots from both women.  Fujii is unloading like crazy, Ward is already bleeding from the nose.  Fujii gets the td and into full mount.  Fujii has her arm, and Ward taps!!  HOLY SHIT!  Fujii is 22-0, people!!  22 wins and no freakin' losses!!

Also, WAR MEGU MEGU as always.

She walks out to the closing theme of FLCL, that alone makes her awesome.

The fact that she is one of the best female fighters in the world is just a bonus.

Gonna have to record this sumbitch while I’m enjoying me some WEC action.

West coast sucks a dick. 2Pac had nothing on Big and Easy E and Magic Johnson got HIV cause West Coast broads are dirty as hell. I wish I was from New Jersey because the shitty bagels and pizza I have out here are making my butthole bleed.

Gotta love split decisions

where one judge scores it 30-27 for one fighter, and another judge scores it 30-27 for the other.

Like the Tanner-Grove fight, where two judges had it 30-26 Grove, and the other had it 29-28 Tanner.

It was weird that Michael Williams (ring announcer) was staring at Aguilar the whole time, so I thought she had it…..maybe he just read the wrong name…..didn’t that just happen on some TV talent contest in Australia or something?

Even in the commentary they were downplaying Aguilar and saying how even though frausto looks like she’s taken a lot of damage looks can be deceiving. Sorry but frausto won before she even stepped into the bellatoragon

Goddamn that was an insane robbery of Aguilar to set up a Frausto/Megumi final. If Frausto wins (and I get this sick feeling that she will), this will be a very disappointing tourney that could have been great. Seriously, Aguilar won the second and third and it wasn’t even close. Apparently the gentleman who picked Frausto needed to mentally let the UFL go longer because he needed time to morph into the shittard judge that also picked Leonard Garcia.
