This game looks ridiculously good. It captures the true nature of mma. The legendary coaches (sorry Laimon), travelling the globe to learn from the best, rings, different cages, different rules, an actual ground game, much better physics, real limb damage and fighter uniqueness. Not to mention actually having a ground game and reinventing online gaming as a whole as far as interaction goes. Any mma fan that owns a PS3 or 360 needs to grab this. I’m not a gamer at all and I can’t wait for the demo.

Are you high? The graphics look like ECW Hardcore Revolution on N64, there’s no weight behind the strikes, and the fighters fly around the ring like they’re on crystal meth. I will agree that the ground game LOOKS a little better than UNdisputed, but looking and playing are two different things. I’m downloading the demo now and I’ll come back with an opinion.

2k11 looks much superior to Elite. To be honest I haven’t even checked out Elite yet. But 2K11 has Jordan.

If EA didn’t have an NFL monopoly I’d be getting ESPN NFL 2K11 right now. 2K5 was the greatest football game ever.

EA actually decided to not release it. Everyone hated it so much that they’re going to fix everything that sucked about it and delay the release till 2011.
id say WWECW, seeing as based on that comment his stats are going to be pretty fake….IE anything above average takedowns and punching power.

All I ask
Is that the demo be distributed ON TIME, as promised, without hangups or “oh check back later in the day” like THQ fudged the UFC 2010 game. (That the game had its own problems was separate, though also indicative of something going wrong at THQ’s end.)
I did get a small chuckle from them making fun of the shine.

Me too. Not to sound like an idiot, but I bought both UFC 2009 and 2010 on release dates and play the hell out of them… yet I still can’t figure out the damn “shine”!

It’s more visceral… some of the scenes appear waaay more violent than undisputed… I like it….
its like a mixture of fight night and tekken…. A comparison I used for a friend was where Undisputed tries to be a simulator, this is a bit more of a pure fighting game. It’s different, but in a good way. I think this definitely has higher replay value and even though it’s simple enough to pick up and play, I’m finding a little depth as I start to understand the mechanics more.
Things some people may like:
Takedowns are not in vain. It is very easy to hit. Strikers have to respect the takedown and sprawl accordingly, or you will go over.
There are no flash KO’s (that I’ve seen yet anyway). Some shots do really hurt, and Ive dropped a few guys fast, but they were hit with bombs.. No 30 spinning back fist here, only one.
standups… have yet to have any come about. No dumb cpu ref standing you up as you were passing to mount, like in undisputed.

What about the defensive aspect of the stand-up game? I noticed one of the developers (or somebody) bobbing and weaving a little in a video I saw, but is it effectively the same as Fight Night Round 4 (the techniques more so than the controls)? Any more or less functionality there?

You have the ability to parry
but instead of three levels like undisputed, it’s left or right. It’s pretty simple, and when you do it right it lets you get that extra tag in. it’s not quite like fight nights, you dont get the flash and pause, its more real time. There are also different variations on the block and parries depending on what combination of triggers you use. I suspect this is whats going to separate your advanced players from your novices.
So far my favorite thing to do is fight for the rear naked choke. you chase a bead of light around with your left thumbstick and you physically see the airway shrinking on screen as you find the right spot.

If the block and parry resembles what I’m thinking based off your description, this is going to be absurd.
I’ve got everything but my laptop packed since I’m moving soon, but I’m tempted to pull the 360 out.

The game’s forums are barely working due to lag. That bodes well for all these flashy online features. Over under on 1 of them working properly? I’d be amazed if it’s even personally.

THIS GAME BLOWS!!!
Played the demo for an hour…the controls SUCK ASS. One button submissions, takedowns, and sprawling make this game look Mickey Mouse in comparison to Undisputed. Along with a retarded transition system and HORRIBLE graphics..in the words of the dude from Grandma’s Boy: “sh*t’s weak!”
graphics definitely beat undisputed
and I think the replay value for the average gamer is much greater. Definitely too simple, but that’s whats going to make it sell.

whoaaa man I dont know what you’re seeing but just look at Shinya Aoki. they did a terrible job with the graphics. actually they did alright with all the outside environment, that stuff that doesn’t matter..but Aoki looks like a god*amn mongolian!!
I like it all in all.
Played against the computer on medium difficulty.
Still real iffy on the block/parry system, but I think it’s because I’m used to Fight Night and I keep hitting buttons that correspond with that game. Between that and working through the controls on the ground, I’m struggling to really control the tempo of any given fight even though I’m almost always on the winning side.
Submissions are completely manageable. Fighters have their own special moves and all that shit – I took JACKSHIELDS out with a D’arce once. The last three times I played, I was taken down by Shields after initial striking exchanges. Two times I promptly submitted him with a triangle, while the third just kind of turned into positional battle, we eventually stood up, a bunch of other shit happened, I knocked him out late in the fight.
A lot of play up against the fence.
No flash knockouts it seems, but if you rock somebody, you’re in a clearly advantageous position. The one time I played with Overeem, I rocked Lashley, followed him to the ground and punched him in the head about ten or twelve times before the fight was called.

This demo has sparked my interest. I don’t think it’s revolutionary by any means, but I think the final build will have much more to offer and I could see this being much more fun for the casual gamer.

Yep.
I think it will end up being pretty good all in all. I suspect I’m going to have to bump the CPU difficulty up on it pretty soon after getting it.

yeah... i could see that.
I went to hard and dropped a split decidion to mayhem miller as mayhem miller (it was fun fighting myself). it was a back and forth afair. two judges had it 30-30 and one had it 29-30. I was pissed!

Well, I gave the heavyweights a try again...
Knocked Lashley out clean with a hook-cross combination. I don’t know if it’s the elusive clean knockout that everybody is looking for, because the hook rocked him, but after the cross he was out – no TKO on that one.
I haven't had one yet
but I don’t doubt I could get one. I think this is a solid effort. I think their second attempt is really going to shine.
