UFC 119 Results: Frank Mir Knocks Out Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic

A terrible fight ended with a sudden burst of violence. Frank Mir kneed Mirko Filipovic in the face in the third round and got a sudden knock out after a long slow stalemate of a fight.

In the first round, Mir shot in and got stuffed by the Croation kick boxer. Up against the cage, Mir ate a knee to the groin that had him rolling on the floor. Mir came out aggressive after the break but missed with his punches. Mirko landed with a combination that had Mir forcing him into the cage in response. The Croat got free but Mir quickly pinned him against the fence again. Ref Herb Dean had to restart the action.

The second round was slow and had announcer Joe Rogan saying that it felt like a "sparring match" because of the lack of action. Herb Dean's restart from a standing clinch at the one minute mark got the biggest cheer of the round.

The third round got more cat calls from the crowd and had announcer Joe Rogan openly disparaging the fight. There was some collisions but few exchanges. Cro Cop did land a punch or two. They talked to each other up against the face. Herb Dean restarted the fight from another standing clinch just before the final knee from Mir came out of nowhere to end the fight.

Before the fight the question was about Cro Cop's injured right eye, hurt by an eye poke eight days before the fight. Mir had also questioned Cro Cop's interest in fighting and promised to give him a reason to retire.
