Matt Mitrione took a unanimous decision over Joey Beltran at UFC 119 in Indianapolis.

Mitrione, a veteran of season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter is best known for beating Kimbo Slice at UFC 114. Beltran came in with one UFC fight under his belt, a win over Rolles Gracie.

In the first, Mitrione opened up the action with punches to the head and seemed to have the edge standing. Beltran, backed up to the cage then caught the former NFL lineman with a hard right. Once Mitrione was stunned, Beltran followed up with a take down. Once he had top position, Beltran spent the rest of the round landing effective ground and pound.

In the second Mitrione came out throwing kicks and again dominated the stand up early. This time he stunned Beltran with a combination but was unable to finish. Beltran then came back with knees and punches.

Mitrione came out fresh in the third, bouncing on his toes. Beltran seemed noticably slowed. He peppered Beltran with combinations and moved away. A bloodied Beltran spent much of the round ducking away from punches. Beltran put on a last minute surge, throwing and landing some punches and working for a take down against the fence. But it was too little too late.

The bout opened the Spike TV broadcast of the UFC 119 Preliminaries.
