Bigfoot by Valentijn crumbling as soon as anything happens.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Well im glad Fedor spent less than 70 seconds fighting this year
This should be a good fight though.

I've supported Fedor forever, but
this looks like the end for him. If he doesn’t want to fight Barnett for Dec 4, then he doesn’t look very motivated to fight anymore. We heard rumors about his trainer saying something like this during the Arlovski fight, and it was easy to blame M1 earlier this year for him missing the Strikeforce: Nashville show, but it’s pretty obvious now.
Either that, or Fedor’s stake in M1 is aligning his interests with them, where they’re using him as leverage to try and get a TV deal on Showtime.
Well, wait. If he fights Barnett on 12/4 he’s motivated to fight, but if he fights Barnett or someone else on 1/29 he’s not? I don’t have an opinion on whether he’s motivated or not, but this doesn’t seem like strong evidence.
1/29 isn’t even confirmed. It’s a best case if negotiations come together. The last time this happened, Strikeforce had to keep Fedor off its CBS card, and it got abysmal ratings because of it.
Consider this: Suppose Overeem loses in the K1 GP round of 16 in a couple weeks. Overeem would then be able to meet M1’s request of a Nov/Dec fight with him. Now we find out that even this has no possibility of happening?
Even if he lost in the Final 16, they would put him on the WGP Final card in December and/or Dynamite 2010.
The K-1 round of 16 is 10/2 and 10/3. I don’t know how long Overeem and Fedor train for a specific match, but I know that some camps are 8 weeks or longer. If that was the case here, it would be legitimate to put that match off until early December at the earliest, and that’s assuming they’re able to sign the contract immediately after Overeem’s hypothetical loss in the GP.
I realize that sometimes fighters take fights on a week’s notice or whatever, but I don’t expect these two would be willing to reduce their training time. So my point is that is shouldn’t reflect badly on either fighter if, were Overeem to lose in the round of 16, the match were not scheduled until mid-December or later.
Okay, good point. Still, the December offer is now off the table and the fact that they won’t even fight Barnett by then is a bit odd. Maybe M1 has lost confidence in Fedor and want a deal signed in case he loses again :)
I guess it’s not the end of the world if Fedor-Overeem didn’t happen until mid 2009, after Overeem-Werdum.
He won't fight Barnett.
He is holding out and angling for the Werdum rematch. There is no other reason for talks to be this delayed.
Big Fedor fan also but this has gotten stupid
At this point I question why Strikeforce continues to deal with these guys. Maybe they are making money off the M1 Deal or maybe they are not. Regardless, it seems like a much bigger headache than it is worth. Maybe long term it would be better to put the resources into promoting the up and coming and more cooperative talent that Strikeforce has or is interested in procuring.
It’s easy to see why Strikeforce doesn’t really mind. If Fedor doesn’t fight, they’re really no worse off than before signing, and he’s a decent part of their HW division’s strength on paper even if he doesn’t fight. If he does fight, then he’s the difference between an anemic 3M viewers and 5.5M viewers on CBS, so he’s clearly a draw.
Still, they’re not going to pay him as much in the contract extension if this keeps happening. Coker knows what he can afford and what he can’t.
this has gotten stupid
I agree.
Strikeforce negotiated a 3 fight contract, but obviously they didn’t get much more than a piece of paper. Why else would M-1 be able to renegotiate after every fight? This make no sense.
Fedor and M-1 are still allowed to walk after two fights, albeit with a matching period. That doesn’t sound like a very good deal. The three fight contract was clearly more talk than anything.
M-1 is negotiating directly with SHO right now to try to get their America’s Challenge covered next year. There is no fight for Fedor till a contract extension. If it is his last fight on the contract it will be against Reem or Werdum and that’s it. If they sign an extension you might see a fight sooner.
Okay, that makes sense.
I can see why they’d want either Reem or Werdum before becoming a free agent.
Yeah, the 1/29 date tells me that it is Overeem. That’s 2 months after the K-1 finals. Although I think Reem can be beat by Edwards in a couple of weeks. That might change things.

I realize that Valentijn is coming off a dominant victory over Catalin Zmarandescu, but he still doesn’t seem like an appropriate challenge for Silva.
Methinks they’re just trying to set up a “meaningful” title fight between Ubereem and Bigfoot (You know, revenge for the fallen Overeem) – And we all know what happens when Strikeforce tries to play ahead of the matchmaking process – It blows up in their face…

OVEREEM!!!111!!!
…wait, what?
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
So confused.
This matchup never even crossed my mind. Why not set up BigFoot against Barnett?

This is the same as Tuchsherersherersherer in the UFC and any number of M-1 guys Fedor has dragged along with him.
As a sign of goodwill to the champs the organization brings in a lesser fighter from the same camp to make them happy. Especially smart move on Strikeforce’s part to keep Overeem, one of the better and more exciting fighters they have, from jumping ship. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see Murilo in the UFC soon following this same pattern.
As for the fight? Valentijn will crumble like he always does against decent opposition.

Randy was extremely green, not much submission knowledge.
Let’s say more often than not if Overeem doesn’t win big in the first minute or so he falls apart.

He also had 2 consecutive sub defeats to middling fighters not long before that. I have a tough time giving Valentijn much credit for that win.

90 bucks or the equivilent in horsemeat
this ends in the first round.
Just throwing it out there, Strikeforce is setting this up on the same night as TUF 12 Finale
I wonder how this will turn out.

I wonder if Dana will just decide to put a fight like Guida/Gomi on that card
Have it be the main event, and watch them win ratings.

Mini Overeem is the kind of guy you feed to Shane Del Rosario to pad his record
Not Antonio Silva same idea but wrong guy.
The earliest Emelianenko could compete again under this arrangement would be at a yet-to-be-announced Jan. 29 event.
If they are in the process of negotiating, then there is no agreement. This makes no sense. Looks to me like they are holding out and waiting for Werdum to come back.
To me the most interesting part was Kogan stating that he is trying to negotiate M-1 shows to be broadcast on Showtime. This is largely what I expected from M-1. I expected them to try to use Strikeforce to build Fedor’s name in North America so they could branch out and do there own thing.
I know M-1 is pulling for it, but at this point, Strikeforce would be foolish to let Fedor have his rematch against Werdum. If Fedor wins, Strikeforce is again left all but powerless in their negotiations. Right now they have the hammer and they need to keep it.
Fedor is awesome, but I think it is just time for MMA and the fans to move on. It is time to start looking toward the future and that does not include Fedor. SF needs to work their HW division without much regard to him and when he fights, it can be just a superfight type of deal. I’m sorry, but at this point I’m far more interested in AO, than I am Fedor.
Fedor is like the chick you keep trying to convince to go out with you, and in the mean time, you are passing up on other opportunities. Not that I have ever done that, lol.
Guess who I’m rooting for here?

This is an Overeem Tweet
I take that with a grain of salt. When Strikeforce announces it I will believe it. Barnett/Bigfoot makes the most sense.

Yea, best to treat it like a rumor at this point
I treat matchmaking news from Strikeforce the same way I treat matchmaking news from Japanese promotions; nothing’s official until I see a press release and even then I’m skeptical.
This fight will take about 20 seconds
Show us a prelim during that time!

It disappoints me when some vocal people in cyberspace hide behind a pseudonym and make malicious and baseless attacks against athletes that have never failed a screen for banned substances. These keyboard toxicologists think that they can merely look at an athlete and "know" that so-and-so is a "juicer." There is a term for that. Alex Davis does not confirm this fight.
Silva’s manager, Alex Davis, says he has no offer from Strikeforce for this fight. They will take the fight if offered but haven’t received one yet.
