Bellator 30 - Live Results and Commentary
As with every major show, BloodyElbow.com will be here to bring you live results and commentary for Bellator 30. The live blog will start with the beginning of the Fox Sports broadcast (at 8PM ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event. The event will only be shown live on two FSN affiliates from what I can tell due to the kickoff of the college football season.
As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.
The FSN broadcast is live. First fight up shortly.
Jose Vega vs. Ed West - Round 1 - High kick from West is blocked. Right hand by Vega lands and West smiles at him. A bit of a scramble ends up with Vega having a front headlock and now he's on top. West is feeling around for a submission and is looking to attack the neck. West has the half guard and now gains full guard and immediately goes to rubber guard and trying to use it to sweep. He can't sweep but he's close to locking in a triangle. Now it's almost locked in. West can't quite cut off the blood but he's using the hold to land strikes to the head of Vega. The round ends and it should be a West round 10-9.
Round 2 - West tries for a throw and while he ends up on bottom he's looking to lock up a triangle again and somehow Vega is bleeding badly, it may have been due to a clash of heads on the takedown but that's just a guess on my part. West transitions to an armbar and Vega manages to get out. West goes back to the armbar attempt again and again can't sink it. He's being so aggressive that it's taking away Vega's ability to really work for anything. West with a kimura attempt and Vega rolls so West uses it as a chance to take the back. Both hooks in now. West keeps looking for the rear naked and just can't get his elbow under the chin. Vega manages to turn back over and the round ends. 10-9 West again.
Round 3 - Vega with a nice uppercut and now he ducks under and looks to be taking the back of Ed West as the go to the ground. West turns and Vega is on top in side control. West manages to stand back up and almost is able to lock in a guillotine choke standing but has to give it up. Jab lands for West. West with a hard kick to the body and Vega fires back with a leg kick that lands to the groin of West so we have a brief break in the action. As they resume West ducks under a punch from Vega and counters with a combination. Leg kick lands for Vega. West lands a high kick and the round ends. I don't see this decision possibly going to Vega. 30-27 West on my card.
Official Scorecards: 29-28 West, 29-28 Vega, 29-28 West. Ed West wins by split decision.
Bryan Goldsby vs. Zack Makovsky - Round 1 - Nice jab from Goldsby. Mokovsky is having trouble closing distance on the much taller Goldsby but as I type that he shoots in low and gets a takedown right to half guard. Single leg right away as Goldsby works to get back to his feet. They get back to standing and both men slip throwing punches and now Goldsby with a takedown to get on top but Makovsky manages to start to stand up and take Goldsby down. This is a very active fight but neither guy is really doing a ton of damage. Makovsky with two punches and he passes to half guard and now is looking to pass the other leg and he does to side control but Goldsby sucks the leg back in. The round ends and it should be a 10-9 Makovsky round.
Round 2 - Quick takedown for Makovsky and he is in side control and then jumps to mount. Goldsby tries to buck but can't get him off. Makovsky opens up with some punches and Goldsby tries to control his upper body to stop taking punches. As Makovsky is landing Goldsby manages to get to a hip and capture one leg to bet back to half guard. Makovsky wastes no time in getting back to mount. Goldsby gives up his back and takes advantage of Makovsky's aggressiveness to get him back to side control and now into north-south. Makovsky right back to mount and he's landing heavy punches now but Goldsby again gets half guard. Goldsby manages to get back to standing and misses with a few punches. Left hand lands for Makovsky. 10-9 Makovsky as the round ends.
Round 3 - Almost immediately Makovsky locks a guillotine in and is on top in mount but Goldsby rolls and manages to escape and he's on top now. Goldsby has to get it done right now. Right hand from Goldsby. Now a few big shots that get through. Goldsby manages to pass to side control and almost into mount but got sucked back into half guard. Despite a lot of work being done they're stood up and Goldsby takes him right back down. Makovsky manages to get a takedown as they were standing back up and with 30 seconds left that should do it. Makovsky ends the round in mount but I'd still give it to Goldsby 10-9. Regardless it's 29-28 Makovsky on my card.
Official Scorecards: 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 all for Zack Makovsky. Zack Makovsky wins by unanimous decision.
Bryan Baker vs. Jeremy Horn - Round 1 - Horn manages to get the single leg a little over a minute into the round. Horn is in Baker's half guard and he's trying to pass. Horn gets to side control and lands a couple punches. Now a knee to the body. Baker gets to his feet and is caught in a very deep guillotine but he manages to pop his head out. Horn gets to his feet and lands a leg kick and ducks under a jab from Baker. Nice throw by Baker but Horn manages to get back to his feet but he slips when throwing a knee. Horn tries for a throw and Baker drops on top of him as the round ends he lands a nice knee to the body. Very close round but I'd score it 10-9 Horn.
Round 2 - Nice punches land for Baker. Leg kick from Baker. Horn with a takedown now. Baker manages to lock in a triangle and he's looking for an armbar with it. Horn gives the thumps up and he gets his head out and now his arm is out of trouble. Baker landing a nice punch and elbow off his back and they get back to the feet and Horn starts looking for the takedown again. Baker landing some nice punches as the round ends. 10-9 Baker evens it up.
Round 3 - Baker landing a nice hook early and then drops a left to the body. Right hand counter by Baker. Horn looks really slow and Baker is just taking advantage of it. Horn throwing a few kicks and a jab now but he eats a combo from Baker. Nice left hand from Horn lands and an overhand right. Right hand from Horn and he eats an uppercut in return. Baker pushes him into the cage. Baker on top briefly and now Horn butt scooting forward throwing kicks to the legs. Jab from Baker and now a right hand and a hard head kick. Another right hand and a flying knee. Now a big head kick to close out the fight. Baker should have earned a 29-28 win here.
Official Scorecards: 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 all for Bryan Baker. Bryan Baker wins by unanimous decision.
Jacob McClintock vs. Brent Weedman - This fight is not being shown due to time constraints so you'll have to catch it on Bellator's website.

I see the Bellator logo there… This FBI investigation goes the wrong way and I guess somebody’s gonna have to step up.
It seemed at the 50 second mark he was trying to use the triangle to sweep to mount using the triangle moreso than choke him out. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

You really think so? I actually thought it was 30-27 for West and it actually bothers me that Vega won one round by laying on top and doing nothing.
"Girls are mean." Lisa Ward
He got a takedown and got to side control for a lengthy amount of time. That triangle wasn’t ever close to finishing, it was a glorified rubber guard. And I thought Vega won the 3rd with the TD and side again. West didn’t land much of anything.
The first was debatable. I had the 3rd for Vega. I thought it was close.

Any word on the McClintock fight?
I’m kind of just sitting at their website and thinking about how much I hate the formatting of company websites. Is that shit gonna be up tonight or later or something.

PBP
Weedman is pawing with his jab and lands the first punch. McClintock shoots in for a takedown and eats a shot, but comes right back at his opponent. McClintock is applying a strong guillotine submission and then jumps guard. Weedman hammers the ribs of McClintock with his free hand until he’s able to free his head and takes control of the fight on the floor. Weedman is working on top, but McClintock is grappling hard looking for any available submission. Weedman lands two or three shots to the head and a few elbows before McClintock can gain wrist control. Weedman stands up and lets McClintock follow him to his feet. Weedman drops McClintock with a vicious punch and pounces McClintock, firing a barrage of shots as McClintock covers up to protect himself. The ref steps in to stop the assault being laid down by Weedman.
