The “well, Brock was a nationional champion and Cain wasn’t, so Brock HAS to be a better wrestler” is the most simplistic argument ever. It not only overlooks the technical aspects of each man’s wrestling games, it overlooks that Cain Velasquez wasn’t national champion because he wrestled in the era of Cole Konrad and Steve Mocco, two of the best heavyweight collegiate wrestlers of the last 50 years. Guess what? Brock Lesnar wouldn’t have been national champion if he had to wrestle against those guys either.

Saying Brock Lesnar wouldn’t have been national champion if he had to wrestle against those guys either is the most simplistic argument ever.
Brock’s own coach said that Brock wasn’t technical in college. He won on strength and speed. So what’s your breakdown of why Cole and Mocco would have rolled Lesnar?

come on guys, that’s not really what Mir said. I don’t really like the guy and he sure is good at shoving his foot in his own mouth, but here what he said was more along the lines of “it depends,” rather than an outright “no we shouldn’t ban steroid users.”

The question is, should the UFC have a zero tolerance policy towards steroids. “it depends” means “there shouldn’t be a zero tolerance policy.”

I would agree if it said 'outright bans' in the title
but Mir mentioned that it would be ok to get rid of people in certain cases depending on the situation, which would constitute a ban. Not an outright ban, but still a ban.
Of course, we’re arguing semantics.

It doesn’t say “Frank Mir Against Banning ALL Steroid Users.” That would be accurate.
Since he actually said he’d be okay with banning SOME steroid users, the headline is misleading.

Shocking that
a man who went from 250 to 265+ in 3 month while maintaining a the same bodyfat % is against a lifetime ban for steroid users!
Obviously I’m being fallacious here, but I think this interview does show a little bit about where Mir’s head is at.
This is a man who was absolutely obsessed with size for the last year or so. He was attributing a lot of his shortcomings as a fighter solely to his weight and strength—both functions of size. To that end, you would expect that Mir would be 100% against anything that would possibly increase the size of his opponents and create a larger gap between him and them (for example, Shane Carwin being a 300 pound monster earlier in his career). But, obviously, he isn’t. Now is that because he isn’t against using steroids to try to make up for some of the size gap, or is it because he has a more forgiving view against others who use steroids to increase the very thing that make them bigger and stronger than he is?

People need to stop holding the UFC to a higher standard than the other more established sports leagues..
True
But a way a journo looks at it is UFC is bigger pulls in more money and fans there for it requires more attention from the media. It’s not that it is held at a different standard it just requires more attention. Majority of fans know UFC there for it is a more important outlet to blog/report on because it carries more interest then that of a lesser promotion.

I don't think so at all
Mir is a cerebral fighter and very aware of his shortcomings. What he says when he’s hyping a fight doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not self aware. Look at the Brilz/Nog Judo Chop on the front page where he’s talking about how Brock beat him by trapping his legs and the mistakes he made thinking it was a strength deficit and not a technique issue.
Of course, when Mir loses it’s always been in the first round (with the exception of Brock II which was the second round), so take that for what it’s worth.
Get rid of the ramp!
