haha. UFC is so predictable
Dana signed Belfort for that fight with Silva. Ain’t no way he is giving it to Okami or Nate before that. Poor Chael. He had the rematch in the bag. BTW, still want to throw your shoes at Brock to shine them up for you, Chael?

NICE
who said he was injured anyways? bad, bad reporting! (not blaming BE here, just the source).

I’m torn. I don’t think belfort deserves the title shot but I think this is the best match up to be made.
Same here
The Marquardt-Okami winner is more worthy, IMO.
Oh well. Now we have two Silva fights lined up. I’m guessing that the UFC was a bit worried about Belfort losing to Okami, as he’s had trouble with guys with positional control. This way they can preserve Vitor’s win streak and his appeal as a strong contender without any risk.
Now that Sonnen is likely out, I think the UFC wants to generate two contenders out of Okami, Marquardt, and Belfort. Before, you’d have one contender from Okami-Belfort, but you wouldn’t be guaranteed that Marquardt would become one.
All of those Sonnenites now head to Belfortville

The Sonnenites are a pretty quirky bunch
I think it’s much more likely that they move to Okamitown. Sonnenites like-a the wrestling.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

Wait what?!
This is like a Jerry Bruckheimer produced drama series on your nationally syndicated television network.
was about to email Nate and Luke about this topic.... Vitor tweeted about training at around the same time they announced that he's "injured"

Ahahaha
I love how he just sticks the news in between commentary on some shitty TV show and an update on two fighters no one cares about.
This is actually great – for me, anyway. A Silva/Belfort match, for me, is far more compelling than an immediate Sonnen rematch. Get Sonnen a win or two first and we can get all fired up about him again.

and I just wanted to point out my conspiracy theory was spot on when Nate/Okami was announced:
conspiracy theories:
.
Vitor isn’t injured, he’s just getting the next title shot if Sonnen gets suspended.
.
Winner of this bout also gets a title shot…
haha!

I think...
Giving Vitor the title shot without a tuneup match is bad for Vitor. I want to see him 100% for this fight and he’s already on a year layoff.
i greened it

From a business aspect, Belfort vs Anderson SIlva makes sense in that it is a fight that many MMA fans want to see and will pay money for. Belfort has not fought in Middleweight in the UFC yet, so many MMA fans don’t feel that he deserves the Title shot.
The UFC management knows that Anderson Silva vs Nate Marquardt or Yushin Okami won’t sell as much as Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort. Knowing the inconsistency of Belfort, he could lose his next fight and the appeal of Belfort vs Anderson Silva would go away, so it looks like the UFC is making that matchup as soon as they can.

good.
maybe we’ll see Anderson fight sooner than Feb.
Probably not
The original timing of the Sonnen rematch was due to Anderson needing to recover from the rib injury.
"If the commission would sanction it and Dana would move, I’d fighter Anderson right now."

I'm not sure
MMAJunkie is saying it’s possibly going to be headlining the new years card.
Well, if I didn’t know better I’d say Vince Russo is working for UFC now.
Then again, Belfort-Silva doesn’t sound any kind of bad. Neither does Okami-Marquardt – though Yushin might be pissed.

So he played the injured card so okami gets new opponent so he can say I’m not injured to get an immediate shot at silva BULL SHIT I hope silva beats his ass just for that
by malito3og3 on Sep 22, 2010 1:05 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
I doubt that
I think they needed Silva to fight on schedule and since he’s already beat Nate and him Vs Okami is about the last thing they want they scratched Vitor and moved him into the title shot. It makes both fights instantly more interesting from a style point of view in my opinion.
He's not afraid to strike.
Which will make for a spectacular show since…you know…Anderson Silva is kind of a master striker.
by ultima0chaotic on Sep 22, 2010 1:30 PM EDT up reply actions
belfort hasn't beat anyone at 185
Who did he last beat @ middleweight? Matt lindland in January 2009. Before that it was Terry Martin. I’m strongly against this. And besides, his last fight against Franklin was @ 195 and was over a year ago.
I think this is a horrible decision to have vitor come in like that. And WHEN he loses, it will just be another notch on silvas belt. He’s going to win for sure, Silva is the best striker in mma, not vitor. At least w okami or Nate the great rematches they would be a little more compelling, and deserved.

This is absolute crap
If the world ( meaning UFC ) was fair, it would be Okami stepping up and not Vitor, based on Middleweight records. Why can’t they fight anyways and the winner gets Andy?
Would you really rather see Okami v. Silva? Okami probably has a better argument than Belfort, but Belfort v. Silva is a much more compelling fight.
