Werdum Expects to Return in March, Wants Fedor or Overeem
"I'm really happy. The surgery was such a success and I've been working so hard with the physical therapy that I've already made some movement on the ground a few days ago using 70 percent of my power. My main goal is to work on my shrunken tendon. Besides physical therapy, I'm using a ‘Dim Fist' machine overnight. That machine works on extending my tendon.
...
"On November 5, I'm going to Tokyo, Japan and right after that I return to California to start my MMA training. I believe that by March, I'll be back to the ring.""I thought (Josh Barnett) was a great acquisition (for Strikeforce). Barnett is a really tough heavyweight. I haven't thought about facing him yet. My goal now is either a rematch with Fedor or (one) with Overeem for the belt. But actually the most important thing for me is not who they will choose, but that my body is 100 percent recovered, so I can show to the ones who thought I was lucky that I was actually ready and pretty well-trained to fight Fedor."

overeem would make the most sense
And it makes it look like the matchmaking in Strikeforce isnt a complete joke.
Fedor should fight Bigfoot Silva or Barnett.
Man strikeforce really got to handle their business no fighter should get to decide who he fights, the fans and the promotion should!

With Fedor having something to do now in fighting Barnett they should go with Overeem vs Werdum for their so called title belt, that makes more sense than Fedor vs Werdum and Overeem vs “someone who hasn’t earned a title shot in Strikeforce”. Fedor vs Barnett could be tagged as a number one contender’s match. Sort of feel sorry for bigfoot though, this really leaves him on the outside looking in.
Barnett should be fighting scrubs on Challengers cards
That’s what he’s good at. Instead Bigfoot is going to get fucked out of an opportunity to make a big leap in his career because Barnett is going to get a second crack at a fight he already blew once.

I agree
At this point that is really the only scenario that makes sense, legitimacy wise…

Werdum has earned the right to face Overeem. I believe Fedor’s next Strikeforce match will be the last on his current contract. Fedor should fight Bigfoot in that match. If he wins, and he wants to prove he can beat the winner of Werdum-Overeem, he can re-sign. I am a huge Fedor Fanboy, but he doesn’t deserve to leapfrog the guy who just beat him to fight for the title. If he wants to fight the champion he should beat some legitimate fighter to prove he still deserves it. Aside from Werdum, Overeem, and Silva, who is he going to fight in Strikeforce? Arlovski?
In any case it would be Strikeforce’s last chance to use Fedor to promote a card. They would be taking a big risk putting Barnett in that last Fedor hype match. Barnett is a great fighter, and I was really looking forward to his match with Fedor last year, but evidently he can’t be trusted to not screw up. He can fight Arlovski or somebody and we’ll see if he can at least cycle correctly and pass the urine test.
Agreed, but
it depends on when the match is. If Overeem loses in the first round of K1 two weeks from now, there’s too much time between that and Werdum’s return. It was wrong for Maia to leapfrog Marquardt for a shot at Silva, but injuries happen and you have to make do with what you can, and Overeem doesn’t want Silva.
I have a feeling that the UFC let M1 know that since Fedor lost, if he wants in he’ll have to beat Overeem. They’ve already shown interest in Overeem in the past, so they probably want the winner of such a match. That’s the only reason I can come up with for M1 calling out Overeem after being dead set on Werdum earlier.
There is no way they are going to let Fedor's last fight be against Bigfoot.
It’ll be against Barnett for sure. Overeem will fight Werdum and probably win, Fedor will probably win and then Strikeforce has to cough up CRAZY dough to get Fedor back for Overeem vs Fedor.
