UFC 119 Preview: Frank Mir Still Wants to Drop to Light Heavyweight
"Right now it's on pause. It's definitely on pause. I want to do it. I'm not going to 205 because I feel I can do better as far as its easier fights. In fact, 205 is extremely stacked. The tenth guy there is more dangerous than the tenth guy in the heavyweight division; so there's a lot more talent to worry about at 205."
"That's why you get a guy like Pat Barry, who's 230, probably could go to 205. But at heavyweight, it's less competition; you can really beat people up. Especially if you're a fast heavyweight."
"It wasn't for an easier path, it was brought up one time and because certain people around me their reply was 'absolutely not, there is no way you could do that.'"
"Being a multiple weight class champion would be a phenomenal feat. If ever another opportunity arises, if I take time off for another surgery or an injury, I'll come back as a 205'er for a little bit."

Lil Nog vs Mir
after Bader wakes up on the lonely tracks of what used to be his hype train. I dream I know.

There sure do seem to be a lot of TUF winners tied to those train tracks.

Darth Bader captain obvious of nicknames. I blame Drew Fickett

I proposed Ryan “Master” Bader. He didn’t go for it.

I like Bader but I just don’t want the mental anguish of Lil Nog losing after seeing Big Nog vs Ricco V2.0 lite

Mir would get crushed at 205.
Against the top guys he’d be screwed. His stand-up is okay but would be outdone by most of the top guys there. He’s good on the ground but his takedowns are terrible. And most of the guys at 205 can grapple enough to defend almost everything. I honestly think he could beat Jon Jones (not because I think Jones is overrated or anything) but because Jones has a propensity for hanging limbs out there and a jiu-jitsu guy like Mir could/would/should capitalize on that. And even that victory is a maybe (pretty big maybe considering Mir is terrified of wrestlers and if Jones ever learned how to hold his limbs in, Mir would get Brock’d all over again).
Mir has a nice way of shitting all over everyone at heavyweight and at the same time discrediting his own wins.

I call BS
I think after he was dismantled by Brock and Shane he realized he will NEVER be at the top of the HW heap, but he hasn’t tested 205 so he see’s his chances as better. I still think a lot of 205 guys will eat him too.
I'm gonna give you three seconds; exactly three-fucking-seconds to wipe that stupid looking grin off your face or I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-fuck you!

205 not void of fighters with above average stand up and great TDD
Not good for Frank.

I like Frank
He actually answers questions truthfully, instead of being like GSP, Carwiin etc, who formulate responses based on what will not offend anyone.
He is smart, well spoken, and he isn’t a bad fighter. Will he ever win a championship while 300lb monster are atop the division, probably not. But only 5 fighters at time will hold UFC gold.

Stop. Truthfully answering questions? Last time that happened he lost a WEC job.

I wish
That Frank would actually go through with this instead of talking about it. He does make a good point about Barry though. HW’s like Barry and Cro Cop could prolly make it to 205. If cro cop would make it to 205 I think a couture, Lil Nog, or Machida fight would all be fun to watch. I don’t think Cro Cop can ever be a contender but he could have fun fights down there. I just don’t think frank could make it

Especially since he got so huge for the Carwin fight.

Frank Mir can tell himself anything
He is leaving the HW division, not because he can’t take the belt from the big dude, but really because there is not enough competition.
Not that there’s anything wrong with it, just be real about it.

Is there something on his knee?

Frank Mir cracks me up. He is sooo overrated. He can’t make 205. He just says dumb things to keep his name in the news. The guy gains 25 lbs of muscle and now wants to drop 55 lbs. He’s delusional. I hope Cro Cop shows half of what he did in PRIDE, because he will KO Mir.

I want to hate you Frank...
But I admire your analytical word stuffs.

I'm going to miss guys like
Frank Mir and BJ Penn who don’t hold back what they are thinking.

same thing.
Those two and Matt Serra are prolly my favorite three fighters, and their personalities are part of it.

Whether you find it douchey or not give Mir credit for answering questions honestly unlike...
Rogan: “What’s next for you in the UFC (insert weight) division?”
Fighter: “Whatever the UFC wants for me man. I’ll fight anyone.”
Gee, thanks…

This is what I mean when I say is Mir mentally right before this CC fight, thsi talk of him dropping down to LHW is insane and i’m glad that people in his camp have set him straight. Mir needs to get focused because for all the stuff i’ve said about CC he still has a dangerous left hand and body kicks and can put you out. Stop with this weight cutting bullshit and go back to trying to rip guys arms off and getting another shot at Carwin and Brock.

I said it before and I'll say it again
He really wants to be a weight class closer to Miguel Torres.
Mo Johnston finally fired. Let the house cleaning and road to success begin.
I still like Mir more than most people seem to
but I’m starting to see why he annoys people so much
"You hear people say, 'You're the greatest,' and all this stuff. It's BS. It's fake, it's all fake. You've just got to keep training as hard as you can. The only thing real is the fight, everything else is fake." - BJ Penn
If Cain beats Brock, I honestly think Mir would have a decent chance of beating Cain. Other than that yeah I wouldn’t mind seeing him at 205.

Mir is a pretty big Heavyweight as it is, and that division is not as strong as the UFC Light Heavyweight Division. I can understand why Mir would want to cut down seeing that he doesn’t look like he could get the Title at Heavyweight, but I can’t see him getting the Title at Light Heavyweight either. If he does cut though, there are some very interesting fights for him.
