Mirko Cro Cop Talks About His Eye Injury, Cleared for UFC 119
Before he boarded a plane for Indianapolis:
"What can I say. I'm leaving for Indianapolis. At the last training, in the last minute I got pretty bad eye injury. But I think it I will be alright."-- Full translation at sports.yahoo.com.
"I am ready to take the risk but I can say you this, all the money in the world is not worth getting my eye injured but at this point there is no chance in hell to back up."
"It would be easier for me if I had time to do a full preparation cycle but at the end of the day thats my problem. I accepted the fight under these conditions. I was on vacation when they called me and I just couldn't say no to them. Not because of the money (which is pretty decent) but because of respect to the guys at UFC."
"If the fight goes to the third round it will be handicap for me. But you know, that's life and nothing is ideal."
"I will most certainly go for a win but I think I did a lot just by accepting this fight."
[UPDATE] - Indiana State Athletic Commission Director Andy Means said Cro Cop has been examined and initially cleared according to sherdog.com:
"The UFC informed me this afternoon that Cro Cop saw the ophthalmologist today in Indianapolis and that he was cleared to fight. I anticipate seeing the results soon but all indications are that this is a non-issue. He will just have to undergo the same pre-fight physical as the other 21 fighters this weekend before the event."[UPDATE] 2 - Dana White tweets:
Cro Cop is 100% and fighting on sat.

yeah I noticed bodog had it down about an hour ago
called my uncle and discussed it with him.
That’d be the commission’s decision, Cro Cop has been a true fighter this whole time and has wanted to fight.
He's gonna have to pass an eye exam first
Hopefully he does

The news of the eye injury itself is enough to remove it. I don’t know what the odds are, but books would definitely want to change them with news of the injury, and when the injury was a question mark.
Same thing happens when quarterbacks get hurt.
If Goldberg ever dies you should apply for his job with horrible lines like that.

eh, I could do without the multiple excuses myself you take a fight you deal with the consequences but who knows he could be playing possum.

First off, he looks like some blind Blues musician with those glasses on
I have expect him to break out a harmonica and start crooning about his eye troubles.
Secondly, what’s up with Mirko and eye injuries? First he beats Barnett because of an eye injury, then he breaks Bob Sapp’s orbital bone, then he beats Mustapha Al Turk from an eye poke, then he gets beaten by Dos Santos by an eye poke, and now this. It’s like some kind of curse, one day some gypsy put a hex on him and the eyes/testicles of everyone he holds dear.
"The fight between Overeem and Rogers probably resembled Overeem’s prom night, with the overwhelmed opposition succumbing to a brutal pounding eventually leading to submission in the face of agony and a stay in the hospital."
I’m sending him a vial of gypsy tears

Don't forget the gypsy urine, apparently it's a strong performance enhancer.
As for the curse rumor has it that Dana White was also involved with the incident, but of course when the gypsy put the “thinner” curse on him they were referring to his hairline.

Love seeing the old fights with Dana and his Matt Hughes comb forward glad he finally let go.

He's not a Gypsy. He's a wanderer.
And yes, he’s very convincing.

The UFC will reward him for this.
The PPV would be fucked if Cro Cop had to back out. I bet they’re happy as shit he’s able and willing to continue.
He may be willing..
but the doctors get to decide if he’s able. I’ll be there live, so I really hope it works out.
For what? For going on record everywhere that the preparation time was not enough, that he only fights as a favour and that everybody should be happy he’s willing to enter the ring at all? I’ve never seen anybody talk down his own fight like that. Cro-Cop is the Anti-Sonnen at the moment. If the mental game is 50% of a fight he’s basically KTFO’ed already. The only upside I see: if he wins against Mir anyway that will be a crushing defeat for him (Mir). And Mir needs some…grounding, in my opinion, although I like to see him fight.
To save me some time on 25% of all threads, here's the universal answer to the Fedor-debate: Fedor is the most accomplished MMA fighter ever. That is a fact. If he still is the best fighter at this point in time is up for debate.
BTW...
Cro Cop has a clause in his contract that states he can’t be cut for losing this fight to Mir, so UFC has to bring him back one more time due to the favor Mirko is doing for them.
:)

this fights gonna go the same as mir vs kongo
mir drops him and sinks in a choke, pat barry dropped mirko when he was totally healthy and trained and dropped him twice inside the first round
mir has good power and good hands, he’ll end it real quick
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
The way Mirko’s phrasing things, such as going to the third round would be a handicap, it looks like he’s looking to end the fight early (ok everyone wants to end it early but you know what I mean.) Maybe this will actually be motivation for Mirko to come out guns blazing just to get the fight over sooner but who knows? Just a thought.
(ok everyone wants to end it early but you know what I mean.)
Chael Sonnon disagrees.

And Dana breathes a sigh of relief
I’m trying to remember, has there ever been a UFC event (not UFN) where one of the headliners had to pull out less than a week before the fight?

Kevin Randleman slipped and smashed his head warming up for the main event of UFC 24, and they canceled the fight.

Woot
I’m just glad cro cop didn’t have to drop out. The main event ain’t much. But I love this undercard and it’d suck if such a great undercard was diluted by a worse main event

I'm just going to say this
Cro Cop is a class act all the way. And furthermore he’s a warrior.
Win or lose this Saturday, he’ll always be 10 times the man that Frank Mir will ever be.
And that means a lot
by devious1 on Sep 20, 2010 10:15 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Right because it’s not like Mir nearly died and was thought to be crippled, before he went through hell and back to get himself back to the cage and becoming champion again.
What a pussy that Mir is, compared to a manly man like CC who is already making excuses about everything before their fight so his fanboys can cry about how Mir didn’t beat a 100% CC.

Mir is also one of the most arrogant fighters out there
I don’t take away anything that Mir has accomplished as a fighter, but his mouth gets him in more trouble then he’s worth
I’m glad that you got your little “Mir love fest” going on, that’s your business.
But as far as class is concerned, Cro Cop’s got him beat hands down.
So take your little flaming attitude and go over to Sherdog where they’d welcome someone like you with open arms…
Damn…you can’t even say something positive these days without someone acting like a smuck!
The Order of the Quotes
Seems so ominous. Cro cop saying on one hand no amount of money is worth losing his sight, but on the other hand he’s got to fight because he’s honour bound and therefore might end up losing his sight? … and then the doctor says he’s cleared to fight… I wonder who paid for the doctor… and then dana white tweets cro cop is 100% ? if he was 100% he wouldn’t have ridiculous sunglasses or be getting checked by opthamologists…
ugh. mir at -250 is looking good. still rooting for cro cop though.
