Stand with Crocop.

Don't think Frank is at that big of a disadvantage standing with Cro Cop.

I mean he is certainly at a disadvantage, but I don’t think Cro Cop has that one shot KO power anymore. If Mir starts losing the fight standing I think he’ll have plenty of time to adjust and bring the fight to the ground.

by lowellthehammer on Sep 20, 2010 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Not sure what you mean by that. He has no avenues to success standing with Crocop. He’s at a major disadvantage, KO opportunity or not.

We said the same thing about Mir when he fought Kongo, a man who outstruck CroCop. I think it’s completely plausible that Mir wins the striking battle.

by Razzel on Sep 20, 2010 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Kongo out struck Cro Cop buy bullying him on the inside (and his balls)

Food goes in here

by Pandanus on Sep 20, 2010 11:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Still, Frank put Kongo on his ass inside a minute, something CC couldn’t come close to accomplishing in 3 rounds.

by Razzel on Sep 20, 2010 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Silva put Jardine in a coma, something Liddell couldn’t do.

But I don’t think Cro Cop will have the same problems as Mir won’t have the lengthy kicks in his arsenal nor the strong clinch like Kongo or Overeem.

by Pandanus on Sep 20, 2010 11:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly, I think I’d actually be more shocked if CC won the striking. He has looked pretty bad lately, and Mir has shown great standup.

by Razzel on Sep 20, 2010 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah but Cro Cop of late has only been outstruck by guys like JDS and round 1 by Pat Barry who are pretty good in that domain I hear.

Nice

But it doesn’t count if Cro Cop takes a ball shot ;)

What is this idiocy?

Cro Cop had Kongo mounted in the first.

I mean that if Mir comes out striking with Cro Cop

I don’t see him getting slaughtered like you seem to. I think Mir has a greater chance of surviving on the feet with Cro Cop than Cro Cop has of surviving on the ground with Mir.

Damn man

when Frank said he wanted a piece of Cro Cop’s anatomy it would have been the perfect opportunity for Mirko to stand up, grab his crotch and say “I’ll give ’em dis piece of anatomy right ’ere!”

In terms of name value, this card sucks.

But the matchups are pretty good. Guillard vs Stephens? Bring it on.

by Razzel on Sep 20, 2010 11:00 PM EDT reply actions

Wrong

In terms of name value, the card is fine.

In terms of relevance, it is lacking.

People bitched about UFC 108 and it ended up being one of the best cards of this year.

Food goes in here

by Pandanus on Sep 21, 2010 1:41 AM EDT up reply actions

no it wasn't

it was a middle of the pack as far as the fights went and was way down there as far as relevance.

by Cory Braiterman on Sep 21, 2010 1:54 AM EDT up reply actions

Really?

Only 2 decisions, great fight from Stout and Lauzon, fun fight with Rashad and Thiago. I really couldn’t care less if a card has “names on it” or isn’t deemed as relevant.

Food goes in here

by Pandanus on Sep 21, 2010 2:03 AM EDT up reply actions

108 was terrible. I can think of 4 Strikeforce cards this year that blew that away. Fans make me laugh. When it’s a UFC card with bad matchmaking and little relevance, the card is judged by excitement. When a SF card delivers more excitement AND relevance than a card like 108, it still gets dissed. The upcoming SF card is way better than 119 and 120.

by Mr Pulla on Sep 21, 2010 3:28 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I thought the UFC 108 was good given the 10,000 injuries that plagued the card, I remember when people were saying it may as well be scrapped.

And what do you deem relevant, does a title have to be on the line, do contenders have to clear cut announced from fight results? Lawler vs Babalu catch-weight was fairly irrelevant in terms of matchmaking but I enjoyed the fight, while Ken-Flo Maynard was much more relevant as the winner was definitively getting a shot at the Penn-Edgar winner, but does that mean I have to like that fight more?

I just think it’s silly to downgrade a fight or fightcard because it’s not as “relevant”.

by Pandanus on Sep 21, 2010 3:39 AM EDT up reply actions

You really think so?

Dunham vs. Sherk sets up a LW contender. Remember that Sherk has only lost to Penn and Edgar at LW, and beating Sherk gives him the best resume of every LW outside of the top 3. Only Sotiropoulis comes close.

Little Nog vs. Bader is also pretty much a title shot fight. Regardless of who wins between Machida and Rampage, he needs one more win to get a title shot again. They might do an interim title against Rashad with Shogun out so long, or they might give the winner a gimme match to fill the gap, but it’s a very relevent matchup.

Mir-CroCop is quite relevent also. The loser will never get a title shot again, IMO, while the winner gets to make one more run and is positioned at #5 behind Lesnar, Velasquez, Carwin, and JDS. As long as Joe Silva shelters the winner from those guys, like he sheltered Dan Hardy from wrestlers, he’s close to a title shot.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
