(expletive) UFC
This is the last straw. With the news that the UFC has been employing yet ANOTHER cheater, I am done with them. Follow me for some awesome insight and totally unbiased writing after the jump.
Chael Sonnen has been popped for cheating. As we all know, this is a grave transgression against mankind and he should never be allowed to fight again. If I had my way, he would go to prison for 40 years. This is on the heels of another title contender, Shane Carwin, being linked to steroids in the past. I threw up just writing this; I was so mad.
Add to this fact that the UFC continues to employ Sean Sherk, Nate Marquardt, Chris Leben...I mean, I am outraged. Sure, Strikeforce employs fighters who have cheated, but that is TOTALLY different because I like Strikeforce.
But you think steroids are the only travesty here? How about the fact that the UFC gave fights to Phil Baroni and Gilbert Yvel? THEY ASSAULTED OFFICIALS!!!!!1!!1! Sure, Strikeforce employs some fighters who have struck people after the bell or started a brawl in the ring, but again - I like Strikeforce, therefore I will plug my ears, move goalposts, and do everything in my power to ignore these facts.
To sum up: Chael Sonnen and the UFC have hurt America today and you should all boycott their shows.

Yep, Sonnen = Barnett
Totally the same thing. The UFC signed and promoted and gave Chael Sonne a title shot knowing he was a three time offender. Indeed, these two things are completely equivalent, and the exact same offense. In fact, Sonnen was floating in the ether, discredited after destroying the WEC with his wanton cheating, when Zuffa called him up and inked him to a deal. It makes me sick just thinking about it. How could they not know this would happen? It’s not as if Chael had been on the record belittling others accused of PED usage. It’s not as if he portrayed himself as a clean, all-American athlete, and didn’t rant and rave about how everyone uses steroids and it’s just him that got caught.
Sonnen’s further actions underline the Sonnen-Barnett parallel that renders my argument useless. Sonnen vociferously challenged the allegations and then didn’t show up to his hearings. He went to Japan where he wouldn’t be tested. He even wrestled professionally! And we all know what that means! Honestly, if someone just put the facts up about these two as separate lists, I wouldn’t know whether to attach Chael’s name or Josh’s name to which list. You know, since both situations have fully played out and all.
Now, of course, I have to completely disavow the UFC for doing exactly what Strikeforce did. It’s the only consistent thing to do. Add this in with their flagrantly forcing a blind Cro Cop to fight, continuing to protect Brock Lesnar from competitive fights and selling BJ Penn like he’s worth a shit, and I’m forced to embrace co-promotion.

I rec’d this because it’s logically fallacious to compare the Barnett and Sonnen situations, and also to show solidarity with someone who I generally agree with. That said, your “(expletive) Strikeforce” article was weak and deserving of some measure of ridicule.
First, using the title “(expletive) Strikeforce” is like calling your hip-hop album “The Blueprint” or your MMA card “Stacked”. If you’re going to go there, you’d better come EXTRA strong, which you did not. Second, you went through that whole charade of pretending that Strikeforce signing Daily was some sort of straw that broke the camel’s back for you, which is (a) not true and (b) frankly a bitch move on your part. Seriously, as a fan of yours, it made me feel embarrassed. Have the courage of your convictions! Do you think mmalogic would have made a post whining about how he really wants to see Strikeforce succeed, but just can’t support them anymore? Fuck no! He would have written a post called “Fuck Shitfarce” pointing out how the signings of clear liabilities like Daily and Barnett show how desperate Strikeforce is getting with market forces crushing them, then bragged about how rich he is while making references to his views on the working class, race, and the virtues of colonics that make us all a little uncomfortable. I hope using your real name isn’t making you soft.
Don’t worry, you can make a comeback. Think of all the asinine things Snowden and Kid Nate have written, only to come back even stronger. I’m sure you’ll do the same.

Kind of a shame
They’re both very good fighters.
Will you refuse to watch Chael from now on, for being a hypocrite? Do you turn off the TV every time Gilbert Yvel or Mike Kyle have a fight, because of their unsportsmanlike outbursts? Would you refuse to watch a superbowl with Mike Vick or Plaxico Burress playing in it? Etc etc ad nauseam.
The fact is, you’ve always seemed to be pretty critical of SF, and I do agree with Jahbulon in and of the fact that your piece comes off as a bit fake. Both Daley and Barnett are world class, and boycotting Strikeforce isn’t going to solve anything. If you really were a fan of them/ wanted them to succeed, then neither of those signings should be a shock/ surprise to you. They’re scrambling for good fighters, and guys like Semtex & Barnett who are basically UFC exiles offer a good option for them. With Josh, they’re taking a serious gamble because he’s proven himself unreliable in the past. Daley seems generally apologetic, and while his actions were inexcusable, other fighters have had similar such outbursts, and he has the benefit of his actions being in the heat of the moment.

And watching Yvel get dominated by Rothwell was actually kind of fun. I also refused to watch the Eagles game today and did other shit instead. It’s not a joke – I don’t support shit if I say I don’t support it. Strikeforce is indeed scrambling, and these signings reek of desperation.
Also, Daley doesn’t seem apologetic. At all.

Come on. “I threw up as I was writing this”? We have enough drama in the world. I agree with your point – there are rules, Chael Sonne broke them, and a bunch of guys have done it in the past. But let’s be fair – this is a business, and it’s about money. Anytime you have money involved, people are going to be less scrupulous about what they do to give themselves the best chance to take home the most money. And that means pushing the rules, or going past the line and seeing if you get caught. It’s not the first time, and it’s not the last time.

Barnett is one example out of a bunch
Yes, I concede that Barnett getting popped 3 times is absurd, and worse than other fighters getting popped once.
But COME ON – UFC employs a bunch of cheaters and people who assault refs. Just admit this post is solid gold and that Joe Montana owns John Elway.
BOOSH
by Farthammer on Sep 19, 2010 6:19 PM EDT reply actions 1 recs
If you go back in a time machine and trade Elway for Montana in 84, nothing much changes in San Fran, but by the age of 28 Montana is either dead or selling life insurance.
Barnett would be the one example that, combined with the Daley signing, caused me to abandon Strikeforce. He’s a unique kind of cancer on the sport and I’d have been very, very angry with Zuffa for signing him, as well. Probably not enough to boycott, but combined with a Daley signing 24 hours later – for the record, I was very very against the Yvel signing – I’d think about it.

I think you hated the UFC before this actually happen… You working for Bellator or something?
The satire
you missed it…
"The fight between Overeem and Rogers probably resembled Overeem’s prom night, with the overwhelmed opposition succumbing to a brutal pounding eventually leading to submission in the face of agony and a stay in the hospital."

Pretty sure they went out of their way to make sure Overeem was tested when the government didn’t and SF had no obligation to do so, if only just to say STFU to people like you…
But yes. This article is a hilarious potshot at Subo, nothing more.

GOLD JERRY, GOLD!
That Subo piece made me attempt to leave WKR, but after unsuccessfully spending half an hour looking for such a feature, I found out that once you’ve become a member on a SBNation blog it’s impossible to undo it. Bunk, I tell ya.

Yep, we’re stuck with each other I guess. Here’s the response I got from their support unit when I asked about it:
“Horselover,
Unfortunately, once you leave a comment on a blog, the system does not allow you to leave that blog. This is done to ensure conversation continuity and integrity. We have discussed changing this functionality in the future, but this is the way it works right now.
Thanks,
Chris"

Add to this fact that the UFC continues to employ Sean Sherk, Nate Marquardt, Chris Leben…I mean, I am outraged. Sure, Strikeforce employs fighters who have cheated, but that is TOTALLY different because I like Strikeforce.

It's a joke article.

Man it's so funny seeing people react as though this is real
