The Ultimate Fighter 12 Conference Call Live Updates and Recap

Image via ultimatefighter.com

Bloody Elbow will be covering today's UFC conference call to promote the upcoming season of the Ultimate Fighter. The call features coaches Georges St-Pierre and Josh Koscheck and will take place at 3:45 p.m. ET.

Follow me on Twitter for live updates. Have a question for the GSP or Koscheck? Leave your question requests on Twitter or in the comments.

Check back here for a full recap of the proceedings.

[UPDATED 5:03 p.m. ET] The call is over.

  • The most interesting bit from the press conference? Josh Koscheck absolutely refused to answer a question about the possibility of fighting Jon Fitch.
  • There was a lot of playful banter between the two. Sometimes it was endearing; sometimes it was awkward. Something I thought they disliked each other; sometimes I thought there was a wink-and-nod.
  • Koscheck said he's excited to fight in Montreal and that all the pressure is on GSP. St-Pierre said Koscheck lied about being excited to fight in Montreal.
  • Koscheck said he believes GSP is fake. GSP claimed Koscheck lied.
  • Koscheck said he wants to stand with GSP. GSP again accused Koscheck of lying and said that Josh will try to take him down.
  • The two discussed their coaching mentalities. GSP and staff worked to motivate each guy independently. Koscheck said with only six weeks that it was more important to strategize rather than coach.
  • The fighters were asked about the "wrestling is boring" meme. GSP said no one would have criticized him if Hardy had tapped in rounds one or three. Koscheck said fans need to be better educated.
  • The two fighters had preparation coming in to the show. GSP said he knew very little about the fighters and looked to pick guys he felt he could help the most. Koscheck claimed he and his camp did their research and looked to pick guys who wanted to fight and had heart.
  • When asked about his banter with the Montreal crowd, Koscheck said that when you have 22k people chanting "F U Koscheck," you better have something to return with.

I wanna know how often GSP trained his boxing with Freddie Roach. Was it just maybe a week of training? Just want some elaboration on it as a whole.

Kos recently said that he is just a villain by choice to make money.

My question is, why choose to be a villain instead of a likable person given the options? It’s pretty obvious that there are a lot of good guys out there who are pretty well liked, if it’s all an act why go with the unpopular option?

Josh already showed on TUF he is an instigator and a bit of a jerk. He has just taken his normal personality and cranked it up a few notches.

He was never going to be beloved like GSP or Randy, he’s just not likable enough, so if he wanted the fans to feel strongly about him, he needed to go in the other direction and he has done a superb job cementing himself as the bad guy.

Too much competition in being nice. There are only a handful of assholes.

It’s honestly money and exposure. People will pay to see a “heel” possibly get defeated, and with someone like Koscheck and his personality, it allows him to express himself times 10. Controversy sells fights, and being the bad guy is the easiest way to be controversial.

by chrisbboy82 on Sep 14, 2010 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

The guy is abrasive because it comes naturally. He realized it made him money much later in life.

Did he whisper sweet nothings in Daley’s ear for the public’s entertainment? No. It was for his own enjoyment.

Question for Koscheck

We all know that GSP’s probably the best in the sport right now at setting up takedowns with strikes. It’s also no secret that with your power, GSP will probably want to take this fight to the ground. From a technical point of view, how do you intend to counter his MMA-style wrestling takedowns seeing as how he mixes them up with his striking so well? How do you respond to him taking Thiago Alves down at will when you, yourself, with all your wrestling accolades, weren’t able to do the same?

Awesome

I’m really glad the UFC invited BloodyElbow to the call. Any special reason they gave you access again?

GSP: Kos is in my head. It’s a good thing for me, gives me motivation for training.

Kos: GSP, you’re afraid to stand up with me.
Kos: Since GSP got knocked out by little Matt Serra, he’s afraid to go out and fight.
Kos: I think GSP’s public image is fake based on my time around him.
Kos: I’m a better, stronger fighter mentally than I was in the past.
Kos: I liked that he’s pissed off and working hard, so when I beat him he won’t have any excuses.
Kos: I definitely got under GSP’s skin during the show.

all that talk

the great thing about fighting is everyone gets a chance to back it up eventually.

by Clifford J on Sep 14, 2010 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Sounds like it was a successful time on the show for Koscheck. Whether or not that’s good for him is yet to be determined.

I am not impressed with you performance.

The dynamic between Kos and GSP sounds a lot… different then i expected. Looking forward to to the show. Should be interesting.

Krotcheck will def get owned again, he just doesn’t have the skillset GSP has and it will show in Dec in Montreal & I’ll be there to see it live.

Fear is temporary regret is for ever.
