Quote of the Day: Paul Daley Talks Strikeforce Fighters Nick Diaz and K.J. Noons

Photo

"Nick Diaz - great fighter. It took me a while to come round to it. As a person people say he's a bit of a (expletive), that sort of stuff, but as a fighter I'm a huge Nick Diaz fan. A lot of people say stuff about his boxing and everything, I think he's a fantastic boxer. He's one of my favorite fighters at the moment.

...

"K.J. Noons, I wouldn't say he's one of my favorite fighters. I don't think too much of him, and I think Nick Diaz should put him away pretty easily."

Paul Daley talking to MMA Weekly.

I’m sure the SF would love to book Daley against Diaz considering how they wanted no part of him facing Hieron because of his wrestling i’m sure he can walk right in for a title shot. It’s almost as if they are building a no wrestling division with guys who like to strike it out which would be interesting if this was K1 not mma.

Other than Rashad, it is a strikers division.

Jones, Brilz, Bader and Davis are new guys who can wrestle. Before them, there was a long period of dominance for strikers and an overall lack of grapplers in the division.

yea but theres a difference between a division being majoritively standup, and a promotion purposely not giving wrestlers title shots.

by Hendo_One-Shot on Sep 11, 2010 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree

I just don’t think thats the case with SF. Bellator has all the good non-UFC WW’s. They don’t have many options.

DREAM and SF have decent WW depth.

It’s one of the deepest divs in the world.

I don't know about that one.

The average weight worldwide is between 75 and 80 kilos.

Fighters in the lighter divisions are more athletic/skilled than heavier fighters for the most part. Look at guys like Aldo, Faber, Edgar, Penn, Gilliard. Not to say there aren’t big guys who are great athletes. But there are a lot more LC Davis’ than Phil Davis’. Pretty much every combat sport expresses that too. If you look at the ranks in boxing, BJJ, wrestling, kick boxing, lighter weights are stacked compared to heavier ones. Usually The weights between 145-165lbs being the most talented.

Just follow the belt for the last few years.

Rashad himself had turned into a stand up fighter when KO’d Chuck for the belt.

So did he ever officially sign with Strikeforce?

Also I like Paul Daley and would love to see him vs. Diaz but the fact that he has missed weight twice this year is really concerning especially if Diaz vs. Daley is gonna be for the Strikeforce 170 lb. title.

daley made 170 when he fought shields… i think alot of his weight cut issues is the international flight and not adjusting in enough time.

Meaning what?

Because he missed weight at UFC 108 in Vegas and now Shark Fights in Texas but made weight in Canada at UFC 113 and in Austrilia for Impact FC.

the commission would let him cut anymore weight in on that UFC card… i just think he needs to diet better a few weeks out, he looked horrible at the weigh ins yesterday.

not sure what you mean by “meaning what?”

Diaz doesnt have the wrestling skills to hold daley down. And daley would just light him up on the feet. Everyone seem to think now diaz pitter patters a few people he is a amazing striker. He is a very good boxer but not a complete striker
