Takanori Gomi Says He "Can Take The Belt" From Frankie Edgar
"BJ (Penn) and (Kenny) Florian have a jiu-jitsu base so I had a hard time dealing with them but the champion has a wrestling base so I can fight him calmly."-- Takanori Gomi talks Frankie Edgar during a UFC Undisputed 2010 Japan press conference. Gomi and Edgar were matched in the video game and Gomi won via first-round knockout.
"I’m aiming for the belt? Yes, I am. I think I can take the belt. Hmmm…I wonder if I’m stronger than the champ?" (Gomi smiles)

It's going to take more than a 1-1 record in the Octogan to get a title shot
Who does he think he is? BROCKLESNARRR!!!!!!?

Maybe if it took place in Japan
But I think based on recent performances the only way he’s getting the belt from Frankie is if he steals it from the baggage claim at the airport.
Well, fuck!
If the video game says he’d KO Edgar, may as well just give him the title shot.
While we’re at it, my copy of UFC says that Cro Cop should fight Lesnar and Nate Diaz should fight GSP.

The loss to Golyaev was a fluke. Screwed up Sengoku rules messed up that decision. Kitaoka is a JJ master, the type of fighter that would give him the most problems, but it was apparent how unmotivated Gomi was for that fight. I think Gomi has found that motivation he has been looking for now that he is in the UFC.
The Tony Hervey fight was another terrible showing and the Gomi that showed up against Florian wouldn’t have much more than a punchers chance either. I like Gomi, but I have no idea where he is at mentally or physically right now.
This is all true, but the Takanori Gomi of old has the style to completely crush both guys. Unfortunately, that Gomi may never come forth again.

Agreed
He’s one of my favorites but watching him drop so many in a row is rough. Hope karma deals him a fair hand soon.

In the fight game
People have short memories. You really are judged on your last fight.
Not saying it’s good or bad.
Fedor was always overrated
His resume isn’t that great. Hold your horses, i know: “BUT INDEFEAT!!!!” Well sure, that’s an awesome and unique accomplishment to go undefeated for so long, but baby, strength of schedule. It’s as big of if not a bigger element of the resume, and Fedor’s is lacking in the category.
BJ is the GOAT LW, but he was overrated a bit too at times. The fan created and fueled legend of BJ got in the way of the real BJ. But this is really just a minor squabble. He is the greatest LW so far and an all-time great in MMA. Just like some people gave him a little bit too much credit, Snowden is taking away way, way, way, waywayway too much.

don't be a goddamn idiot,
Downplaying fedor to try and boost penn? Penn is honestly one of the most overrated fighters of all time and he definitely has the most apologetic fans regarding his weaker performances. Has Penn ever won a fight where he lost even a single round? He hasn’t won a fight where he lost a single minute that i can remember.
I why wasn't trying to give Penn a boost.
IDK what you’re on about.

he should fight himself?

I'd love to see Gomi vs Fisher or Stout

Ever since Gomi signed I've been calling for a Gomi vs. Stout fight.
It would have been a better first fight for him than taking on Kenny, that’s for damn sure and I still want to see it.
guillard bout to run through everybody
after guillard beat down stephens down they should let run through gomi

guillarsd bout to run through everybody
let’s keep posting this so it seems more likely. Well unless Nate drops back down to lw or if he has to fight Tibau again. Although maybe they’ll just give him the w like last time.

ill keep posting it because its the truth
guillard won that tibau fight and lost to diaz because he got careless after beating the hell out of him.. like i said before guillard running through everybody.
the Guillard who fought Tibau who get worked by everyone near the top of the division. Lets just see how he does with “Jeremy Stephenson”.

Gomi has a better chance against Frankie or Maynard than he would against BJ.
Styles make fights, and Gomi has shown his ability to dominate wrestle-boxers in the past. If he puts in a proper camp stateside, with Jackson or AKA, I could see him giving Edgar or Maynard a run for their money.
Edgar’s speed might be troublesome, but he doesn’t have the length or straight punching acumen that let Florian dominate. And against Maynard, we could see another knockout.

thx
The comments in here made me think
about the UFC doing one show in Japan, like they used to do. (UFC Brasil/ Japan) I know the UFC closed the doors over there, but if they took Gomi, Crocop, Wandy, the Nogueira brothers, Rampage and Lesnar (basically some Pride guys and throw in a freak show). They might have a decent turn out and with Lesnar it would still do well on pay-per-view around the world.
It's not that they don't want to
its that Japan hates the UFC for killing Pride. They’ve been trying to get back in Japan for a while now.
Wait a minute...
How is Gomi in the game?

Gomi is clearly delusional, Edgar would make him look even worse than he did BJ. Gomi needs to go out and beat guys who are good wrestlers and won’t stand right in front of him to get KO’d. Until he beats someone like that everything is just wishfull thinking by him and his fans.

Gomi has rewritten the events of his first UFC fight.
He was getting tooled badly on the feet before Kenny decided to take him down and finish him.
