Last night on MMA Nation on 106.7 The Fan in Washington, DC, it was all UFC 117 talk. You can watch the UStream video feed above (no caller audio) or the individual segments below:
- We opened the show with talk about the fantastic main event between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva with a focus on what was next for either fighter. The prevailing attitude is that a rematch is in order, but by no means is that sentiment unanimous. James Kimball also felt it was difficult to make the argument Anderson Silva could be the pound-for-pound king in MMA after taking a drubbing like that. I disagreed and the callers took sides:
- The calls continued to poor in about the performances of Sonnen, Silva, Junior dos Santos, Roy Nelson and others on the card:
- We also look at the increasing momentum behind making a potential superfight between Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva. We assess the similarities and differences in the wrestling, ground and pound and passing games of St. Pierre and Sonnen, discusses whether the fight could/should be for a title, whether it makes sense to even have a three-round fight between the two and more:
- We close the show by talking about the rest of the card including Jon Fitch's performance, Matt Hughes' manly front headlock choke, and more. We also went through The Week in MMA including Roger Huerta's street justice, Demian Maia's new opponent and lots more. We also briefly take a look at the "UFC vs. Boxing" marketing for UFC 118 that was on display at UFC 118:
Let me take a quick opportunity to thank all of the callers of the show, be they local, national and international. The audience participation has dramatically picked up in recent weeks and months. I've been hearing a lot of positive feedback about the UStream, despite the setback of not being able to hear the callers...yet. Believe me, we are working with engineers to get that problem solved. In the meantime, thanks for Tweeting me or calling the show. You're a huge part of this project, our ratings are way up and I can't thank you all enough.
