What’s the deal with the weird catchweight?

I was about to ask the exact same thing.
…strikeforce.

Just seems bizarre
182? You couldn’t have made it 185 and gone with an actual weight class?
“…strikeforce” is right.

Hope Ryan Couture gets off to a better start for his career than Kim Couture did.

Joe Riggs vs. Louis Taylor… at a catch-weight? It’s like they’re trying to think up the most irrelevant fights possible.
If I ever start an org to compete with the UFC, I’d tell M1 to take a hike and use the money that normally gets thrown away on Fedor to make Joe Silva an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Who cares if it's a catchweight?
Who cares if they fight 3 pounds under the MW limit?
The only important thing is, that they come in with the same weight and fight.
And why is this a catchweight?
Joe Riggs fought most of his last fights at 170 and Taylor fought as a MW.
He turned 13 last weekend. Got Starcraft for his birthday…probably isn’t gonna show up for the fight now.

pure gold sir.
"I'm sore, tired, under the weather, over trained, under motivated and still tough enough to write this signature."
I wonder if he’ll make his mom drop him off a block from the arena so his friends don’t see.

i think they billed it as a nod to the old school formats, but it just seems a like a hassle for the fighters. if they wanna do the random draw thing, do it a couple weeks out (perhaps live on an earlier broadcast). then they at least have a chance to gameplan. but that approach would be logical, and that ain’t strikeforce’s m.o.
