You just have to hand it to Sonnen
He has done the impossible and made me interested in this fight.
After being burned by Silva in the Leites and Maia fights, if you had told me that I would pay money to see Silva v. Sonnen, I’d have laughed in your face. Silva GSP or Silva Mir, maybe. Silva Sonnen? Forget it.
So kudos, you gigantic troll. Kudos.
Has Sonnen taken it too far? Oh yeah, sure. It’s pretty old now and a lot of the stuff he said was either a complete lie or pretty offensive. Still, we’re talking about him. That’s the thing.
I was interested in this fight because I thought Silva would tool Sonnen
And I still think so. I just don’t believe Silva will get taken down over and over and over again without adjusting for a victory. Also getting taken down is one thing, the grappling is another and Silva is way better at that.
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
I just can't see
how people weren’t excited for this fight to begin with. Chael absolutely tooled Marquardt and Okami, and he has the perfect skill set to challenge Anderson. Don’t get me wrong – I still think Anderson is the rightful favorite, but I’ve always believed this was a smart matchup.
"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe."
- Frank Zappa
The problem is
I can’t see Chael finishing Anderson and I can’t see him surviving 5 rounds.
Could he win the first round a la Henderson/Lutter? Sure. All five? No. He’s going to get caught sooner or later.
But hey – tomororw we’re finally going to get to see!
NO Sonnen did not TOOL Marquardt
did you watch the fight? that was a great fight and a back and forth beatdown. I dont think that is tooling in any way shape or form.
Sonnen clearly won the first 2 rounds
But Marquardt nearly choked him out.

I was confused. I was kind of half-listening and knew they were talking about weight cutting and Vitor kept saying, “Yeah, I like to wait, then fight.” He said that a couple times. He was actually saying “weigh then fight”.

It’s totally possible now the PPV becomes a boring decisionfest. Davis/Diaz will produce fireworks but that’s about it.

you think davis will catch him standing..or some ground and pound? man diaz is tall, and davis is short. diaz is also at evading punches.
I think Diaz will get tricked into a stand-and-bang
And he’ll lose. I think Guillard and Maynard dropped him and Davis has the power to KO him.

I can think of three bad outcomes for tomorrow's main event
1.) Anderson Silva takes a dive (AKA throws the fight) and loses handily if not by TKO. The crowd is infuriated and Spider gets cut the next day.
2.) Anderson Silva knocks out Chael Sonnen senseless but lands several punches after the ref pushes him off.
3.) Anderson Silva evades Chael Sonnen’s gameplan, avoids every takedown but starts to dance like the Maia fight.

Well, he could get a decision, which I think is most likely. Pretty much all the hype surrounding Saunders is that KO’ed Marcus Davis. I’ll take your word for him giving Fitch problems, because I remember him being taken down at will, but I can’t recall with any certainty.
Hallman is a wrestler, which I think will turn out to be Saunders’ career weak spot.

for the most part yea, but Fitch had to work for quite a few of them, my point with it was that Ben does have some TDD, not world class but good enough for Hallman.
Hallman won’t get inside the range and he’ll eat some vicious stand-up.
Howard knocked him off but then again hes a good wreslter.

Hallman got knocked out fair and square, but he was tooling him for two and three-quarter rounds before that. (Which isn’t, actually, a good argument on my part.) Also, was Saunders gassing with Fitch? I have an image of that in my head, but I might be wrong. If I’m right though, it’s good news for Hallman.

How could he possibly be impressed by anything Bader ever does if he thinks Rampage is a gatekeeper?
"I have trained to fight an army. There is no way one man can stop me if many cannot." -Georges St. Pierre
Ha!
I forgot you had gotten your panties all knotted up about that…
What I said is Rampage already came as close as he’ll ever be again to a title shot and he is beginning a steady descent into basically glorified gatekeeper status by mid ‘11. Maybe after he gets clowned and dominated in the Machida fight you’ll see a little more clearly about.
As for Bader, he was getting stuffed on his shots by Keith Jardine. Keith Jardine!
He’s very good, but will not be in the same class as Jones or Davis after they get more experience.

that's speculation though
lets hold off until we see Bader / Lil Nog go at it. I’m predicting 2nd round KO by Bader. He’s legit son
Completely agree
I don’t think Bader is going to wash out or anything, just that he doesn’t have the same physical tools as Jones and Davis.
I think he’ll handle Diet Nog pretty easily. For all of his great stand-up, Nog’s TDD is essentially non-existent, and he’s certainly not going to submit Bader from the bottom.
Bader will be a top-5 type guy IMO, and he would also give Shogun or Anderson all they could handle with their Nog-esqe TDD.

I'm not so sure
If he puts in a solid training camp for a specific fighter, lil’ nog will do well.
Bader has great wrestling, and his overhand right is devastating, but what other striking abilities does he really have? That overhand right will be difficult for nog to counter as a southpaw, but almost everything nog throws will be the same for Bader. He was having a lot of difficulty with Jardine up until the KO, in all areas of the fight.
I say nog outboxes and reverses him all day, en route to a close decision victory
I agree, to a degree
I think people have largely read waaaay too much into the Brilz fight. If Nog had a full camp to prepare specifically for him he would have looked better, although it appeared he underestimated him a bit as well.
Having said that, Nog has never shown too much in the way of TDD that I can recall, and I think Bader’s top control is probably too good for him to be reversed by Nog.
However, if Nog can either keep it on the feet or get back to his feet, Bader’s in for a long night – Nog’s boxing and striking in general are far superior to his.

that Brilz didn’t have a full camp to prepare for Nog either.
Just saying.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
I think if that had been a 5-rounder, Nog might have finished.
He seemed to adjust to Brilz over time.

Why isn't this guy a star?
"I am a man who pisses largely and frequently, which they say is a sign of great mental activity" -Henry Miller-
Maybe his personality just isn’t appealing to the average fan. But I roll with it. He’s basically the Kanye West of MMA.

Different audiences though
My incomplete and not well thought out theory dictates that MMA fans probably aren’t big fans of Kanye West. To flamboyant.

Anyone wanna take odds on him dancing his way out to the ring? I feel as though it might happen!!!

Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

what if almedia wins?
Hughes will never fight GSP again because no one wants to see a 4th fight between the two with so many other contenders. However if Almedia or wins how close will he be to a title shot? Fitch and Alves both got dominated by GSP rather recently and have not lost since then. Then their is Shields and Kampmann. I see the 170 title pic like this:
If Alves wins and Kos wins they will fight cause Alves beat Kos already
If Fitch wins he will get Sheilds/Kampmann winner no matter what
If Alves and GSP win Alves will get Sheild/kampman winner
If Hughes wins it means nothing but maybe will wanna rematch Alves
If Almedia wins who will he fight? Beating Hughes is a big deal maybe Serra, Hardy? What do people here think?
If I have the timelines figured out correctly
We might see an Almeida/Shields or Kampmann fight

chael sonnen is in AS head
but i dont think that is a good thing..i mean when AS is goofing off in the octagon he still makes grown mean look like lil kids fighting him and now AS looks pissed. doesnt look good for chael, but i wish AS would get in his face during the stare down
Last time Silva was pantomiming was before the Griffin fight. He was making goofy faces at the crowd.

This card is stacked. Sonnen talked alot of smack and now he’s gonna have to back it up.. Words can only mean so much and now he’s gotta show it! I would like for Sonnen to pound Silva out but if you knew anything about silva.. You’d know to never bet against him. Also looking forward to the JDS/Nelson fight and JDS will hopefully put on another clinic.
Ps. New to the BE community, what’s up

Welcome...
Also excited for the Cigano/Big County fight, and I am hoping that Silva breaks Sonnen’s jaw so we don’t have to listen to him for awhile.
Did Silva just admit error?
Is that new? Last I heard he had no issue with what he did in Abu Dhabi, and claimed he executed everything he had trained for.
Good thing that Sonnen saw that fight, so he won’t follow the go chin first in on Silva strategy that failed so miseralby for Forrest. Man i’m telling you i’m going to ba pacing like a motherfucker tommorow at my boys wedding just counting the hours until UFC 117 comes on this is going to be epic.

UFC.com is reporting he tried again didnt make it will fight at 171.5 and be fined 20% of his purse.
It doesnt really make a lot of sense why he would try again so early to not make it if he had 2 hours but maybe the AC saw he was too drained and said no more cutting.
:(
Probably what happened. Fitch is probably bummed.

The money does go to Fitch. It’s effectively a bribe to get him to agree to go on with the fight.

mm, how would it be possible for him to be smaller this time, if he didn’t even make weight?
He always looks like that at the weigh-ins.
No, he doesn't

If I recall correctly, based on Anthony "Rumble" Johnson
It also renders him ineligible for “of the Night” bonuses for this card.
It actually might be difficult now
He just looks deflated, and I don’t think it’s all based on this weight cut. His body lacks the mass it once did. I almost feel like doing a side by side..
"I have trained to fight an army. There is no way one man can stop me if many cannot." -Georges St. Pierre
I agree, his body looked noticeably different. It’s been 13 months though, perhaps he’s tried to cut down on muscle mass.

Is he still in line for a title shot in this weight class? Does this bump Fitch down in the weight class pecking order? If I were Fitch I’d want to know the answers to those questions.
