Isn't that the cake boy from TUF?

Hahaha.

Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

Thanks to my sources, I've also heard that BJ Penn had to pull out of 118 citing a reptured spleen.

WAR RUEDIGER!

Met him at BJJ competition, he’s actually not a douche bag like the show portrays.

That's bullshit

Gabe has been on a tear lately and it was inevitable that he’d be back.

Typical

Lauzon got destroyed in his last fight. Just because Gabe hasn’t fought in the UFC lately doesn’t mean he’s a nobody. Have you seen a single one of his fights in the last year?

who

called him a nobody?! i sure the hell didn’t. i’m just sayin that Gabe is Lauzon’s sacrificial lamb, that’s all. Gabe may be legit, in some realm of the sport, but he’s gonna get beat down

by BeeTrain on Aug 5, 2010 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't say you called him a nobody

You’re eluding to that end. I just think you’re a bit uninformed, no offense. Lauzon is no world beater and Ruediger is no can. You being so confident in Lauzon in this fight just speaks to a lack of knowledge about Ruediger.

possibly....

to be honest, i don’t follow Gabe, but i take your word for it that he’s a legit opponent. i just don’t see it though. J Lo w/2nd round sub. we can talk about it on Sunday, either way

by BeeTrain on Aug 5, 2010 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Like I mentioned below, Gabe managed to sub Wander Braga— who is one of the best BJJ practitioners/trainers in the world. So he’s no slouch on the ground. I’m not picking a winner just yet (gotta see Gabe at weigh ins), but this is more of a toss up than people are giving it credit for. Sucks for Lauzon, in a way, because a win doesn’t really get him anywhere when people will have the impression that Ruediger wasn’t that good anyway.

I have to agree with Blackout.

Gabe is no joke

Also, since when is Joe Lauzon capable of walking through guys? He is a solid fighter, but he is hardly a dominant one. If it were Kenny Florian or BJ Penn I might buy the ‘walk in the park’ line. But Joe Lauzon? Seriously?

DAMMIT!

This card took a huge hit both for the prelims and the main card losing Nate/Paul Harris.

What a depressing prelim show this could be. Vedepo is going to get annihilated by Harris.

Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.

by SSreporters on Aug 5, 2010 8:52 PM EDT reply actions

Something is fishy

We all know Sakara’s ground game is suspect and know this is the second time he has pulled out of a fight with a wrestler. The first time was Rosholt I believe. Seems like a little bit of a coincidence.

The only part about that, that bothers me is the way his head hits the floor at the end, looks more painful than the kick.

In street fights and in hockey and I’m sure other sports people have died from hitting their head on a hard surface after getting punched/losing balance etc, I wonder how hard the UFC mat/floor is and how much falling like that hurts a fighter’s head?

by DirtyML on Aug 5, 2010 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

A lot more upset about this Sakara bidness, personally

Gabe deserves this shot and it is an intriguing fight that I’d be willing to lay money down on, depending on how the line comes out. First guy to beat the then 11-0 Wander Braga (who my BJJ trainer, Gonzaga, Shaolin, JZ and more have trained under, and is one of the foremost BJJ names in the US) and by submission. Gabe’s been on a warpath trying to get back to the UFC, and he absolutely deserves this fight. Regardless of what a douche he was on the TUF program a few years back.

Alessio didn’t pull out against Rosholt. It was against Paul Harris. And in all honesty, if Sakara doesn’t think he can beat Harris, he might as well preserve his job security and not take a fight he will most likely lose.

The other piece of news out of this situation is that the new fight agreed upon between Harris and Vedepo will no longer make the televised portion of the Spike TV preliminary show, as confirmed by sources close to the negotiations.

No big deal

KO-Vedepo getting powerbombed will make the broadcast at some point.
