Well, that’s a lot of potential rematches. All of those 4 have fought each other with the obvious exception of Fitch / Kos. Good fights I suppose, but I’m not gonna get as pumped for fights I’ve already seen.

Fitch avoided questions about fighting Kos, but he’s already stated he’ll move up to 185 if Josh beats GSP.

if Josh beats GSP and defends the title successfully.
Of course if he`s the one that`s supposed to challenge, that causes a bit of a problem with that plan.

Ew
I’d rather see the winner of Kampmann vs. Shields get the shot.

@deowade
i thought forsure if Shields beats Kampmann he would get the next immediate shot.

Dana can back track
No one is better at it then him. I wouldn’t say it won’t happen, but dana is building a fight right now.

Alves needs MW, but i would take both Fitch and Alves over Shields.

hasn't it been reported
that Alves is having a lot of trouble in camp cutting weight for this fight? move up may do him some good
yep thats what the rumor is……not much of a rumor tho as history repeats itself.

If Shields wins he’ll get the loser of GSP/Kos probably
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." - Jack Burton
Dana wants
to set the standard once and for all about friends not wanting to fight each other and this a good opportunity….lay the ground work early so that when/if the time comes he has the power to say:
’Here’s your opportunity. I laid the scenario out a long time ago. Be professionals and fight each other or risk your career in another weight class and risk any future chances at title shots.’
yeah, I was going to say something like

I think Fitch deserves another shot if he finishes Alves. But if Alves wins? Hell no. He was dominated by GSP, and I don’t think he can have changed his game much after one more fight to make another title fight compelling in the least. If Fitch wins, that will be 5 in a row since he lost to GSP. I doubt he has changed much either but he has won the fights. If he can finish Alves I think he is more than deserving of another shot. Winner of Kampmann vs Shields vs winner of this fight for next shot makes the most sense.
Or is this just a ploy to mess with Fitch’s head to think that they are possibly forcing him to fight Koscheck?
"Ten more seconds is all I ever ask. That's the good thing I learned about being KO'd twice. You don't see it coming -it's like death- you don't plan for it so don't wait for it. So many people are afraid of getting Ko'd that their hands stay home, but not me. I got to go out there and shoot the lights out and fall down" Jens Pulver
The winner of Alves/Fitch should fight the winner of Shields/Kampmann. That will determine the true contender to GSP’s crown should he beat Kos.
But
Keeping your number 2 draw on the bench isn’t a successful promotional strategy
hes already on the bench
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
Not really. If GSP fights Koscheck in December, he won’t be ready for another match until February or March anyway. If Kampmann vs Shields is in September, that gives you ages to arrange that title eliminator

So GSP has officially lapped the division.

So if Alves wins he's gonna have 1 fight in between title shots?
I’m a fan of his but Alves needs a couple of fights before getting GSP again. What happens if, by some off chance, Kos beat GSP and Fitch beat Alves they wont fight?
Honestly Dana should quit saying these things before the fights and look at things after it’s played out.
blargh
Would rather see
1) Jake Shields or Kampmann
2) GSP at 185 vs. a top 15 guy.
If this is a boring decision by Fitch, it will be tough to justify a rematch.
If Alves wins (as I personally expect him too) does he really deserve a rematch?
What a lame decision, made lamer by the fact that we have to wait all the way till December to see GSP fight Koscheck.
Mind you – this is all assuming GSP wins. If he doesnt, well, there are loads of interesting matchups for the new champ.
I think the reasoning behind guaranteeing Alves a shot off only one fight if he beats Fitch...
…is that to beat Fitch he’ll have to overcome behind held down and decisioned. If he does that, the the UFC’s reasoning is that maybe he improved enough to circumvent GSP’s as well.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Twitter me and what not.
What the hell was the point of signing shields?
We don’t want more rematches, Dana!
SWIM, SWIM, HUNGRY
if fitch wins then he should get the title shot, but if Alvez wins then the winner of Shields vs Kampmann should get the title shot. It’s unfair to give Alvez a shot after winning just 1 fight, but you don’t give fitch one after winning 4.
I don't know if I agree
Fitch’s wins have all been decisions, many of which were pretty lame 29-28 ones. Mike Pierce almost finished him.
So it depends how Alvez wins. If he knocks Fitch out convincingly, I would say he deserves it as much as Fitch did.
How Fitch has won is kind of irrelevant. The only man to ever beat him in the UFC has been GSP.

Great
So this means we get to watch GSP beat Fitch up again. That sucks because I like Fitch.
I'm gonna give you three seconds; exactly three-fucking-seconds to wipe that stupid looking grin off your face or I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-fuck you!
Also so the winner of Fitch/Alves is going to have to sit out another 8 or more months to wait for GSP to beat Koscheck again.
Alves is coming off a year layoff do you really want him out another 8 or more months if he wins.
I think it was always a bad decision
to have GSP on the shelf for so long, especially leading into a fight in which he is such a heavy favorite.
GSP fight twice a year max anyway, hes not one who needs to fight all time. Hes no rampage.
and He is always a heavy favorite

I think "twice a year" is a bit misleading
The key difference is how long between the fights.
In this case: nine months.
If he had a six month layoff, he’d still be “twice a year”. But his next fight would be in September.
For instance, if he sticks with nine months layoff, he will only fight once next year.
Anyway, you’re right – he’s not going to fight all the time, and there’s not really much point to it anyway, since there isn’t anyone for him to fight. The problem is that if you guarantee people like the winner of Kampmann/Shields and Alves/Fitch title shots, then they sit on the shelf a long time. So it’s more about the rest of the division than it is about the champ.
a few more months in between this time because of the TUF show taping and airing, otherwise the fight would be happening now, i would think.
I think if Shields beats Martin he should get the shot, fresh blood and a top contender. Win or lose Alves needs to go to MW. and Fitch won’t have to worry about fighting KOS, but i could care less for any blow out GSP rematches.

Bwahahaha
I think this is a genius dick move on Dana’s part. On the off chance Kos beats GSP and with Fitch being the favorite going into this fight, it makes it pretty damn hard for Fitch to talk his way out of fighting Kos is the aforementioned works out. I think Dana’s trying to force Fitch into the unenvious position of fighting his own teammate as he has been for some time now.
I am very surprised!
I thought for sure the Shields / Kampmann winner would get the title shot.
Then again, this is a fight between the clear cut number 2 and 3 guys in the division.
on another note:
Two title eliminators and a title shot on the same card. WOW!!!
It does seem like they'd be putting guys on the shelf for a while.
It would be nice to have the winner of this fight the Shields/Kampmann winner. If Almeida impresses against Hughes, throw him in against the Hardy/Condit winner for the shot after that?

This is a joke
Shields or Kampmann should’ve gotten the shot.

Think about this
Alves vs. Fitch – Rematch
GSP vs. Kos – Rematch
Here are the possible outcomes for the next title shot:

GSP vs. Fitch – Rematch
Kos vs. Alves – Rematch
Kos vs. Fitch – Train with AKA

Well that's tough to do
when everyone they put in front of these guys gets beat. It’s not through choice that they are going this route it’s a lack of options.

But why would they bother putting Alves back in there?
Fitch I can understand but this should not have been a “winner gets a title shot” scenario.

It's not.
Dana says it is but it isn’t.

I hope it isn't
I also hope now it ends in a draw.

The display of Fitch’s heart amidst his first merciless beating was endearing. The second time, it would just be painful…

As did I.
I enjoy watching GSP practice his craft. It’s really poetry in motion. Fitch claimed he was on queer street after the first big shot that put him down.

And 10 months later..
Thiago Alves had two beautiful baby girls from being humped so hard during this fight…
But seriously, this should be a huge motivator for Fitch because he deserves the shot so much more at this point…Alves shouldn’t leapfrog competition because of his injury and use Fitch’s streak of victories as a gauge of his title shot.
Will this news cause Fitch to fight even more conservative and with the “winning first” attitude…or will he want to make a statement about how much he feels he deserves this shot and bring it to Pitbull?
Alves' last fight was against GSP. Hell if he deserves another title shot after a year out.
Fitch should get the shot if he wins, Alves needs at the very least one more fight.
