Serra’s one of those guys that irks me with a passion, but I think he was pretty spot on with his predictions. Although I would argue that he’s wrong about Matt Hughes. The only thing that has hurt Matt is Father time

At the Radio City Music Hall show for 116, Serra was the MAN
He was on stage with Bonnar, Edgar, Cain, some radio personality, and Liddell before 116 aired. And he was easily the most personable, genuine, and funny guy out of all of them. I can’t fathom how he irks you, let alone passionately.
How is that different...
From what he said about hughes?
I think he was wrong in implying that the game passed Hughes by and has evolved beyond him. Hughes was one of the few who managed to be as successful as he was because he evolved. He didn’t rely on being just a wrestler to grind out a win and developed good bjj and sub defense mixed in with strong ground and pound. The only thing Hughes has never been able to do is become a strong fighter on the feet. Age caught up with Hughes, nothing more IMO.

He got old yes, the game has passed him in that way, but fighters haven’t aren’t so different today than Hughes was in his prime. Hughes is constantly working on improving his striking, he’s just not very good at it. Every fighter has a weakness in their game. Brock, Anderson, Shogun, etc are champions have areas they are not very good at.
I often see too much talk out there from fans or fighters that act like whose skillset is not one that coudln’t have competed with the top guys today.

You must not understand...
what the world evolve means. Striking is part of the game he hasn’t evolved in hence the use of the word evolve. He aways had the strong wrestling base.
I fucking love Matt Serra. I agree with everything he said except his prediction on Sonnen vs Silva.
