Shane Carwin vs. Loser of Roy Nelson vs. Junior Dos Santos Hinted by UFC UK President

Marshall Zelaznik talks to espn.co.uk:
"Shane Carwin is a man people would love to have a win over on their record," Zelaznik said. "His performance against Brock Lesnar was so good that he only sits one or two fights away from a return to a title shot.

"Joe [Silva] has a tendency to match fighters who are coming off losses in order to give them their chance to turn things around. So how the Nelson vs. Dos Santos fight plays out may have a bearing on Shane Carwin."

Big Country has good footwork and conditioning. I could see him avoiding Carvin’s power shots in the first and then moon belly crucifixing him in the second round.

Roys has tends to take a lot of shots to land of one of his own. That doesn’t help his cause against a guy like Carwin, not to mention he’s be the much weaker man and have serious trouble getting Carwin down

Dana hates Roy. So does Joe Silva, it seems.

Did you see the size of that chicken?

by Heenan on Aug 4, 2010 1:33 PM EDT reply actions

My speculation.

If Dos Santos wins he will get next title shot.

If Roy wins he will get Carwin next and then that winner will get next title shot.

Just BE.

by mattman73 on Aug 4, 2010 1:36 PM EDT reply actions

Either of them will get a shot if they win but I think Roy’s would be gifted at this point just for happening at the right time.

When I compare the recent wins of JDS and Nelson, it’s pretty obvious one of them should have gotten his shot a while ago.

I definitely feel a Carwin/Lesnar rematch would do much bigger numbers than Nelson/Lesnar so I wouldn’t be surprised if Nelson beat JDS they still made him fight Carwin first.

At the same time, I really think Dana wants Lesnar to fight every contender in the division first before a Carwin rematch happens

It makes sense.

If Lesnar beats Velasquez they are going to want the have a couple challengers set up.

The winner of JDS / Nelson would be legit, especially if it is JDS.

Followed by the winner of Carwin / Nelson, especially if it is Carwin.

Those would both be Monster PPV’s.

If Nelson wins, the matchups are a little more flexible.

This is the most logical matchup at this point. There’s no one else really waiting in the wings.

I hope Carwin has to fight dos Santos at some point. Then people will finally see how terrible Carwin’s boxing is compared to someone who knows what he’s doing when he throws his hands.

by crazybones on Aug 4, 2010 1:55 PM EDT reply actions

Carwin doesn't need great boxing to KO people though.

Gonzaga made his striking look silly too… How’d that work out for him?

by truck on Aug 4, 2010 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

He certainly doesn't

I’ve analyzed his crappy technique to death, but the results are THERE.

Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

As much as people like to tout JDS’s boxing, he has his defensive holes as well.

whos strikingg in the heavyweight division is good enough to take advantage of that?

overeem is the only person i can think of

We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!

by milk72 on Aug 4, 2010 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Fedor, Overeem have the speed and accuracy in their strikes to deal with it and Carwin certainly has te reach and power, though I think he’d use more of a gameplan similar to his fight with Frank Mir to deal with JDS.

Ummm

JDS has some decent offensive boxing, but his defense is poop.

It makes me worry about his next fight.

He has a few holes, yes, but his speed is more than enough to handle a stiff, clunky behemoth like Carwin.

dana white dosent hate roy nelson

its funny when people get all into the WWE drama shit from TUF. i guarantee you that was all scripted bullshit for reality television. wake up people

by DanGlenzig on Aug 4, 2010 2:29 PM EDT reply actions

I love it when people pretend that there is a clear division between ‘real’ and ‘fake’ in reality TV, and then even more when they pretend to know what goes where according to their fantastic wisdom.

I have to say if Nelson was the HW champ it would look pretty bad for MMA. Spin it anyway you want. It would look bad. However a fatman with a mullet getting KTFO two fights in a row could look bad too.

Lesnar Carwin II: Carwin is going to pull that horseshoe out of Lesnar's ass and beat him over the head with it.

by frosty31 on Aug 4, 2010 3:24 PM EDT reply actions

Great fight either way. Its too bad that one of the three will end the year with back to back loses. But I guess the HW division needs more gate keepers besides Gonzaga and Kongo.
