Randy Couture vs. Rich Franklin Makes Sense!

Both men are come off doing some serious "solids" for the UFC and Dana White, both are the ultimate company men who will move up and down in weight and fight anyone put in front of them.  When Couture ended his hold out, he agreed to step right into the ring and fight Brock Lesnar.  When the UFC went through its winter from hell last year, Couture stepped up to headline UFC 105 in England with Brandon Vera.  And then he agreed to be Dana White's instraument in humbling James Toney.

Rich Franklin has done even more since losing to Anderson Silva.  Moving up and down in weight, he's even developed his own weight class - Franklinweight at 195.  He agreed to headline the UFC's first show with Wanderlei Silva to help him get down to middleweight, he (like Couture) agreed to fight on short notice during the craziness last year and welcomed Vitor Belfort into the UFC and got knocked out.  After that he covered for Tito Ortiz to finish TUF and then fought Chuck Liddell and KO'd him.

Both guys have been moving up and down in weight, almost aimlessly at times - especially Franklin.  Couture is too small for heavyweight, Franklin beats every middleweight but the champion (and I still think he beat Henderson).  Both have been promised big fights in their future for their loyalty and hard work.

If I were Joe Silva (and that would be sweet) I would book this fight in the GSP-Koscheck co-main event.  It solves several problems - one, it avoids these two legends having to be taken down for good by the young guns in the division like Bader, Bones, and Little Nog.  It gives each a chance for one lat run before its over.  This leaves out Forrest Griffin of course, but for whatever reason he seems out of the mix right now and without any momentum.  I honestly think Forrest should fight Thiago Silva - like what was suppose to happen way back at UFC 101.  HIs loses to Rashad and Anderson Silva aren't erased by a lackluster split-decision win against TIto Ortiz where he really only convincingly won round 3.  Couture vs. Franklin makes sense across the board for me . . . its a meaningful fight in the title chance, its a reward for loyalty, and a chance for both guys to get a big money fight that could lead them to a title shot.

This would be one of those rare fights

where I like both guys and am not rooting for one to win. I can just sit back and enjoy the fight.

i feel the same way

the hard part of watching it would be that i wouldn’t want either one to lose.

Oh hell yeah! I can’t make up my mind about which one to cheer, but having those two lock up at 205lbs makes all the sense in the world. Book it, Joe!

From what I have heard from “sources” that Couture and Tito Ortiz (if he was to win against Hamill) would be real intriguing options for Rich Franklin at the 205 pound division.

uuuh yeah I write for the Cincinnati Enquirer. Thanks?

makes sense.. i don’t know that youre being completely fair to forrest tho. his shogun/rampage wins arent that ancient of history to the point where he is irrelevant

I think this is the perfect fight. Realistically I don’t think they can both “be in the mix” anymore. Whoever wins this earns a contender fight down the road. I love both these guys, but of the two, I’m surprising myself by thinking that Randy is stylistically the better bet to win a title fight. I can’t see Rich outstriking Lyoto or Shogun, or stuffing Rashad completely. Randy might be able to tie up and manhandle one of three, though I seriously doubt it. If Rich lost to Randy, and Rampage loses to Lyoto, I’d really like to see Rich against Rampage. I think Rich could win that fight. But honestly, I’d just like to see this fight. They’re time to contend for titles may be over already. Jones and Bader are going to have their chances pretty soon, and there may be no more room left for them at the top.

What's this war in the heart of nature? Why does nature vie with itself? The land contend with the sea? Is there an avenging power in nature? Not one power, but two?
