I simply can't care about Hunt in the UFC
He was fine in Pride, where there were always interesting matchups for him. In the UFC, where every match means facing tougher competition the next time, he does not, and never will have, the takedown defence to even be competitive against the top four or five guys in the division. He’s not a bad or boring fighter, it’s just that there isn’t even a question about whether he can become champ. He can’t.
There are a ton of folks in every division who will never become champ. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t care about the fun and interesting fights that they might be able to put on regardless of that fact.
As for his takedown defense, hopefully it has improved and I expect it has seeing that he is training at ATT and looks to be in great shape at this point. Whether it will be good enough is the question though.

The myth of improved takedown defense strikes again
yes, a man over the age of 30 with a striking background can technically improve his takedown defense. however, no matter what said man does, it will never be enough to counter somebody with a wrestling background who intends to take it to the floor.

I didn’t claim that it could so I’m not quite sure how the ‘myth’ struck again. I simply stated that hopefully he has improved enough by training at ATT to allow him to keep the fight standing with people that he should be able to defend against.
Do I expect him to be able to keep the fight standing against somebody like Lesnar, Carwin, or Cain with their wrestling backgrounds? By no means. Do I hope that he has improved enough to keep the fight standing against other competition or at least be able to improve his position on the ground? Yes, yes I do.
If he hasn’t I won’t be surprised having watched his other fights. If it has, my hopes will be validated. That simple really.
You do know that the only reason he’s in ufc is due to ufc being contractually obligated to give him the remaining fights he had on his pride contract?
So what if he fights in a few Prelims, loses, and goes away. He’s not hurting you.

I never thought I’d see a group shot with Hunt where he looked to be the thinnest guy.

Wow!
I can’t believe how much smaller Hunt looks. It appears that he has lost a lot of weight, but maybe it’s just the way the picture looks.
Mark Hunt was always one of my favorite K-1 guys. I thought he looked alright in almost all of his Pride fights. With the right match-making, I could see some great fights with Hunt.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Hunt vs Cro-Cop (MMA Rules) II. Their fight in Pride was close, and their K-1 fights were great.
Well they say...
black is a “slimming” color. :D
But in all seriousness he looks much smaller that when he fought Gegard and I thought at first glance that he was the onon the right as well.
Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind seeing him back in K-1! Although I don’t know if he’s got much fight left in him at age 36, but obviously he was far more successful in K-1 than he ever was in MMA. Spectacular fighter, back in the day..

God, nothing would make me happier on UFC 119 (well, except seeing Mir get Cro Cop’d) than to see Hunt make a comeback. There’s a lot of good matches for him in the UFC: Rothwell, Yvel, Beltran and Mitrione for lower level fights, Barry if he does well, Struve… plenty of entertaining fights if Hunt is serious about this.
Whats McCorkle looking like?
I heard he was well above the 265 limit. It looks like Mark Hunt is doing great, anybody think he has a good chance at winning?

OH MY GOD
Is that Mark Hunt in the middle? I can’t remember the last time his head looked so big compared to his body.
"You hear people say, 'You're the greatest,' and all this stuff. It's BS. It's fake, it's all fake. You've just got to keep training as hard as you can. The only thing real is the fight, everything else is fake." - BJ Penn
That is not Mark Hunt
No way they got this one wrong
somewhere in this feel good story
is a badass Pat Barry story to boot
I’ve got big walnuts. Gorilla nuts.
So where's the rest of him training?
Maybe he left his gut at Sonic or something.
Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.

Hope Mark is working.....
hard. I would like to see him have success in the UFC. He’s a tough guy but does he have the skills to hang with the big dogs. Hopefully.
