MMA Live Postfight: Randy Couture Talks James Toney Win at UFC 118
"You don't see too many guys shoot a low single in mixed martial arts. I knew the low single would work, would make it difficult for (James Toney) to counter and catch me coming in."
Showdown Joe Ferraro talks to Randy Couture after his victory against James Toney.

That makes sense but it appeared to me that they were representing it something genuine.

Wasn’t a BJJ black belt. Melanson is a catch wrestler and I assume they’re using the belt as a symbolic thing.
Nobody should get a BB for submitting a guy who doesn’t even qualify as a white belt. Catch wrestlers are weird though.

The wrestling aficionado’s that I was around called it a heel pick. Is that the correct term for a low single?
For the version he did, yes
He trapped the heel with his hand as he lowered his shoulder into the shin.

Randy should box Toney
Just for the hell of it. He couldn’t do that bad, could he?
Death is the Road to Awe
It'd be an inversion of their MMA fight
I don’t see Dana White letting that happen. He shat a brick of pure hate when Randy tried to fight in Affliction. The situations different, but the sentiment is the same: White doesn’t like letting his big draws fight outside of the UFC.
And Randy has got some standup, for sure…but I don’t see him doing too hot in a boxing match with Toney.
Randy has already shot this idea down
He admits that James would tool him just as badly in boxing as he tooled James in MMA. The fight would be pointless.
Risky move
… considering James Toney’s conditioning and his expertise with low kicks.
Even Couture getting his BJJ BB is a joke cause it’s who you know and not what you know that gets someone that BJJ black belt ……… this is a reality for a brown belt friend of mine that doesn’t care if he gets his black ……… he’s had his brown belt for many years, but doesn’t have a big name BJJ team behind him, but has plenty of ability and knowledge in the discipline. On a side note Randy finishing Toney was enjoyable, but when Randy faces a top 5 LHW he’ll lose and lose big as father time is catching up with him and his window of fighting has shrunk to a peep hole.
Fear is temporary regret is for ever.
I know I'm crazy but,
I think he could beat Rampage. I don’t think Machida could hurt him.(let me clarify, Machida would win/dominate, but not hurt him.) Forrest couldn’t hurt anyone w/ strikes.
Shogun, Evans, & Jones would crush him,
Lil’ Nog would just win.

I think Machida would take Randy out with strikes as would all the top 5 LHW UFC fighters, and I agree with the Forrest assessment as his pitty pat shots can’t hurt much. Randy is getting really old for this sport, and he’s been able to cheat father time in MMA, but is now really starting to show his age.
Fear is temporary regret is for ever.
you may be right.
i just like thinking he could throw monkey wrenches in the division. being 35 and well out of my prime it’s nice to live vicariously through others.

respect to James Toney
I give Toney respect for having the balls to get in the cage with Randy Couture & try to back up his talk, unlike boxers like Floyd Gayweather… a guy who has stated boxers would rule if they ever decided to enter the UFC… hey Floyd, whaddya say you step in the cage against, say, … show us how you would send any MMA fighter to the hospital… change of heart?
