Cool

Seems like a decent cast. Looking forward to seeing Nam Phan and Mike Budnik – always thought he showed some nice potential in WEC, just couldn’t quite pull it off. Plus, as a former Roller Blader myself, I like that he came from being a Pro Fruit Booter.

Looks like Budnik just fought a few weeks ago so I’m guessing he doesn’t make it into the house.

That sucks. Really like that dude.

I too am looking forward to seeing Nam Phan fight on TUF, and he went to CSUF and lives very close to me. I remember Ambrose fighting Pyle at Affliction.
It looks like a good cast, and there are a lot of fighters with undefeated records. To be trained by GSP would be a great honor in my opinion, and coaching under Koscheck and his coaches from AKA would also be a great experience. Hopefully, there will have some high level coaching here.

nam was a pro boxer before he did mma

He used to train with me at APEX and Subfighter in Orange County. Now he has his own gym. Hes pretty much a hero in his town. Once you feel his body shot, you are always worried about it and you start keeping ur hands low. Soon after you’ll get caught. Nam for the win!

He was in the commercial for the video game "Ready 2 Rumble"

Called it before the fight:
Cardio - The BIG question. Does Shane Carwin have cardio? He's never gone past the first round. His muscle mass is astounding and we all know that with all that muscle comes a need for the heart to pump fresh oxygenated blood to keep them from building lactic acid. He does train up in the thin air of Colorado, so that can't do anything but help. However, we have seen him pretty winded after a 1st round fight. Adrenaline dump or cardio problems? We won't find out the answer to that until someone takes him out of the first round.

The only name I recognize is Nam Phan

And I only know him because I’ve watched him lose several times.

by simpsycho on Aug 3, 2010 12:48 PM EDT reply actions

That's disappointing...

I thought there would be at least a couple Canadians.

No Canadians = sad.

We need at least one =\

Seems like a good mix of people with some experience and some newcomers. Even the newcomers have a few fights under their belts. That plus the weight class should mean less gassing than the last couple of seasons.

When will they start having qualifying tournaments to get onto tuf. That would a much better system. Have regional tournaments to qualify into the house.

JONATHAN BROOKINS

I am gonna say he wins just for the hell of it cause I like him from when he fought Jose Aldo, and didnt get owned as bad as some of the others guys he faced.

by J smooth 420 on Aug 3, 2010 1:28 PM EDT reply actions

Haven’t seen his recent fights, but I’ve heard Brookins has improved tremendously since he fought Aldo.

by Chris Nelson on Aug 3, 2010 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

thats good to hear. I have not seen him fight since his wec stint. I thought he showed some promise.

by J smooth 420 on Aug 3, 2010 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions

While he did get his ass handed too him by Aldo

He wass the only guy in the WEC to get a clean takedown on him, it was a lateral drop or something.

Too bad Aldo got up while he stood over him pecking him with standing thigh kicks, that was the first time I realized how inhumanly fast Also is.

People do not like to think. If one thinks, one must reach conclusions. Conclusions are not always pleasant.

Really shocked that they mentioned Sherdog. I thought that was a forbidden word in the UFC.

Joe Duffy in the house now you’ll get to see a real irishman fight!

I’ve seen some of Cody Mckenzie’s fights via an old video fight channel on itunes back in the day. He’s fairly slick on the ground, but he was fighting fairly weak competition, mostly in Alaska. It’ll be interesting to see how he does on the show. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him not make it into the house. Hoping he does.

Based on some fight-finder searching

it seems like a majority of the guys this season are BJJ and submission specialists, so I’m hoping we get to see some exciting ground wars, instead of another season of Standandbang.

by Scott Haber on Aug 3, 2010 2:50 PM EDT reply actions

This. Tired of shitty kickboxing. It would be great to see some nice transitions and sweeps from guys who hopefully have great cardio and some imagination on the ground.

0 Canadians but they found two guys from Fargo North Dakota?

I sat through this whole bullshit video expecting some Krazyhorse

I was severely disappointed.

Just a thought, but if that was the only reason you were watching you probably could have stopped when they got to the C’s and saved yourself about 4 minutes.

WHERE WERE YOU VOICE OF REASON WHEN ADRENALINE WAS SURGING THROUGH MY BODY?!?!?!

Steve Sharp is an entertaining fighter

I’ve watched him fight locally (Utah) quite a few times often against guys way bigger than him, and completely wreck many of them. Conditioning seems to be his weakness, and he probably should have fought most of his career at 145, not WW and LW. Still, I’d be psyched if he made it, win or lose he is very exciting to watch.
