Scott Smith Moving Down to Welterweight in Strikeforce
Scott "The Hands of Steel" Smith makes his first official announcement that he is moving to 170lbs, the welterweight division. Strikeforce's current welterweight fighters include: Nick Diaz (current champion), Erik Apple, Shamar Bailey, Roger Bowling, Jesse Finney, Andre Galvao, Jay Hieron, Joe Riggs, Luke Stewart, James Terry, Tyron Woodley, Bobby Voelker and Marius Zaromskis. Rumors indicate Paul "Semtex" Daley may be joining this roster, but nothing is official yet.

Size isn’t his problem. Getting hit all the goddamn time is.

This guy needs to commute about fifteen minutes south to Lodi to train at the Ceasar Gracie gym with Nick Diaz. All of those egomaniacs in Sacramento like the Faber and James Irvin types are getting this guy killed in the cage. It’s time he changes up his training if he wants to avoid serious neurological problems in the future.

They missed Tarec Saffiedine on that list, and I would personally like to see Smith vs Saffiedine at Welterweight.
This
is an interesting idea. Though, I doubt he’ll make much of an impact at 170…

Diaz is done at MW, Smith is done there now too..
Le won’t take anything but hand picked match ups.
Hendo lost a chunk of credibility at MW and may stay at LHW.
Shields walked.
Strikeforce’s strength division has taken a big hit.
I strongly dislike her.. she’s so very “Hollywood” or whatever, typical fame seeking no-talent broad.

I think this is a great move
Scott has always looked like he could cut to 170 if he got strict with his diet. This hopefully can help rejuvenate his career, he won’t be champ but the matchups should be more favourable for him ala cyborg who’s now at 170.
