I think 119 is going to feature a ton of slugfests
Although the prelims don’t really do anything for me.
Toronto FC - Where road games are forfeited and we STILL have no idea how to play from behind.

I wouldn’t bet against Bader

Lytle
Who’d he piss off that he’s stuck fighting Sera? He deserves much better than this. And I’m glad the UFC is tossing us this card as a freebie. Smart of them to realize no one in their right mind would pay 49.95 for it.

(and illegal streamz, or maybe a bar, as there’s no shot in hell i’m shipping $50 for this)

I will gladly pay $44.95 for this card
It’s a fantastic card. It appeals to everyone but those who are blinded by big names at the top of the main event.
www.mmatorch.com
So would you pay $50 for the next Ultimate Challenge card or maybe $45 for Greg Jackson’s MMA series? I’m sure they appeal to everyone. The point is that with paying bigger dollars you should receive bigger names. All fights have the potential to be great barnburners, but that doesn’t mean you should pay the same price for every card in every org. There’s a reason people are willing to pay more for a UFC card than a KOTC card and it’s the big names, who are generally big for a reason. Stop trying to act high and mighty because you are the only REAL fan of mma because you are the ONLY one that can see that this will be the best card ever.

That and a ten year track record of putting on the best fights they possibly can. If you haven’t learned by now (and you probably haven’t), The odds of a UFC card being a barnburner are higher than a card put out by any organization.
Stop trying to act high and mighty because you are the only REAL fan of mma because you are the ONLY one that can see that this will be the best card ever.
I never said anything of the such. Simply put, There are five high quality fights on the PPV. What fan (derived from fanatic, by the way), would not gladly slap down $45 (or get a few friends together and divvy it up) to see a fantastic card like this? To my way of thinking, the only people who won’t buy this card are people who aren’t all that into the sport. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a casual fan who only wants to pay to see Chuck, Randy, Rampage, Brock, and GSP. Enough exposure to the stars, and to the fighters on those undercards, develops new fans.

I understand where you're coming from
but I’ve bought the last 3 in a row now and I’m not really intrigued by many of these fights. To be honest none of them are really relevant in the grand scheme of things outside of maybe the lil nog/bader fight. Don’t get me wrong, I will be watching it at a bar, but not throwing down to buy it. I really don’t understand/care much about the Mir/Cro Cop fight..I think it’s a gimme for Mir but that’s just my opinion.

and I'm not counting out Cro Cop
I know he has the skills, I just haven’t seen them much in so long now that I think Mir will be too much for him.

anything with Evan Dunham is relevant, very relevant. He is going to be the man to stop Gray Maynard’s horrifyingly boring title run (after Maynard sits on Edgar and another guy)

or
people who like title fights
or people who like #1 contenders
or people who like fights between anyone in the top5 of their weight class
or people who might be perhaps two wins away from a title shot
The only fighters of relevance here are Bader, Nog, Dunham and shockingly Guillard. Mir is a gatekeeper. Cro Cop is on his way out. So are Lytle, Serra, Stephens and Sherk. This card is as exciting to me as a Fight Night, not something I would ever consider paying money for.

he's also lost very recently to a plethora of gatekeepers
I don’t pay for “exciting to watch”. This sport is exciting to watch. I’ll be excited for the first scrap on the undercard. I don’t pay for excitement, I pay for fights that have relevancy to titles and implications in the top10 and 5 of divisions. This card fails to produce that.

So you’re a casual fan. There’s nothing wrong with that. I mean, if you can’t get 4 people besides yourself to go $9 apiece, then you’re just not that into it.
What fan wouldn’t want to see if Cro Cop has one last trip to the cemetery in his left shin?
Who would choose to not find out how good Bader is, and if Nogueira is done (or if he had an off night against Brilz)?
Why would anyone not be totally geeked up to watch Lytle and Serra rematch? the first fight was a dog, but both have become much more entertaining since then.
Want stand and bang? Guillard and Stephens is sick for those fans.
Now that the LW division has been knocked upside down, let’s see if Evan Dunham is the real deal. how better to determine that than against a former champion?
If that isn’t $45 worth of entertainment for you, then your standards are WAY too high, man.
www.mmatorch.com
Thanks for the label
however I’m far too into this sport to be casual. Thanks for the assumption tho.
Considering there hasn’t been an event from Dream, Bellator, Strikeforce, WEC or the UFC I haven’t watched either as it happened or on videos later, you really know nothing about who I am. Thanks for trying, however.
No one I know is even remotely interested in paying money to watch this card.
What fan wouldn’t want to see if Cro Cop has one last trip to the cemetery in his left shin?Whoopdie do. Aging fighter not relevant to any title picture anymore against a gatekeeper. EXCITING!
Who would choose to not find out how good Bader is, and if Nogueira is done (or if he had an off night against Brilz)?
Sure. As my 2nd to last fight of the night on a PPV? Please. This is the ONLY fight on the card with relevance and both fighters are at least two wins from a title shot.
I could pick apart every single question, but it all boils down to the fact that aside from the four fighters I mentioned, none of these fights are a title fight, #1 contendership, between top5 guys and only two have any relevance at all in their weight class insofar as “somewhat close to a title shot”. I have the choice of: bar, buy it or watch a free stream. When it comes to irrelevant fights, I take the latter. Zuffa wants my money? Put on relevant fights. Aside from this past weekend’s tilt, I haven’t failed to drop $ on a big card for a couple years now (this one I knew was going to underwhelm compared to 116 and 117, plus I had to work up until past the start of the event).
Summary version: this card is terrible. There are barely any relevant fights, and the M.E. isn’t one of them. Excitement is part and parcel of the sport. I can watch my old Rumble on the Rock DVD I bought for $5 and be excited. Sorry you’re a sucker and shell out money whenever Zuffa asks you to, but I’m more discerning in my tastes.

You’re really excited to watch Sherk try 3 rounds of his “T-Rex” boxing? Kyle Maynard’s got a 6" reach advantage on Sherk.
by Ironbuddha on Aug 29, 2010 7:15 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions 4 recs
He’s not going to make it three rounds.
Dunham is going to confirm what I have suspected for a while now … Sherk is D-O-N-E. Dunham via emphatic stoppage in the second round (TKO, submission, either one is fine).
Dunham won’t finish him. He’ll hug his back for three rounds and not throw a punch
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Twitter me and what not.
Based on what exactly?
His style isn’t passive in the least. He trades punches and transitions well on the ground. What are you referring to?
Kyle Maynard’s got a 6" reach advantage on Sherk.

No title fight or even and eliminator but
it’s a card full of ‘who is taking the next big step up,’ except maybe Lytle/Serra. But I luv that matchup because while they will throw bombs, both are very compentent grapplerz.
I’m hoping for a lot more from Melvin.
Wow, that's a pretty sick card.
Dunham and Lytle is enough to win me over.

This will be my first UFC event. I said if there was ever a UFC event within driving distance from Chicago, I’d go. So I’m making the 3 hour trek to Indianapolis. And hopefully the 123 rumors are true and I’m rewarded with a card in Chicago.

123 won't be in Chicago
Allstate Arena is booked with a Wolves game. The United Center has the circus (Bulls annual circus trip).
Expect 123 to go to Detroit (maybe Milwaukee or Pittsburgh).
Expect Chicago to get something later in the winter.

This card is awesome
It doesn’t matter if it’s title fights, #1 contenders or what, I get excited for a PPV based on how good the fights are, and how much I like/dislike the fighters and the matchups. There could be a card with two title fights that both blow, and one full of no consequence matches that rule completely.
Mir vs Cro Cop – Hate Mir with a pashion, long time Cro Cop fan, I think Cro Cop pulls this out
Bader vs Lil Nog – 2 favorites of mine I never wanted to see fight, but I’ll take Bader
Lytle vs Serra – another 2 I never wanted to see fight(again), don’t know who I got
Dunham vs Sherk – Like Dunham a lot, very likely he is gonna work Sherk over
Guillard vs Stephens(on) – both are brawlers, but I think Guillard should be favored here
Dolloway vs Doerksen – Hate Dolloway, but he’s gonna win
Mitrione vs Beltran – Don’t really care for either, but I’ll take Meathead.

Stephenson can scrap.

Very true
But I was more impressed with Guillard’s last performance than I was with “Stephenson’s”
But that fight could go either way, I enjoy watching both of those guys fighting just as much, so seeing them blasting eachother will be very entertaining.

Hilarious trailer
Its so brazenly fulling of shouting and excited rogan/goldy that I could do nothing but laugh the whole time.
REALLY REALLY REALLY looking forward to Jeremy Stephens vs Melvin Guillard.
someone’s head might come off on that bout.
I’m not the biggest fan of stand and bang, but this fight has me excited. There’s a difference between two wrestlers who decide to kickbox for 15 minutes, and this. Stephens and Guillard are near the top of the heap at what they do, and it’s going to be fun.
www.mmatorch.com
yep.
seeing jiujitsu guys and wrestler do sloppy kickboxing isn’t exciting. But this one has me pumped…
and for what it’s worth (not much), and though I highly doubt this one goes to the ground, I think Stephens has the advantage there.

and great job on the UFC promoting this as a card that could be full of KO's
to offset it’s lack of depth and star power.
Another reason I love this card
Is that it’s practically all about fights where the winner really moves up into the next level of contendership in their weight class. The winners of Cro Cop-Mir and Bader-Nog will be within striking distance of a #1 contender fight. The Serra-Lytle winner will move back into relevancy, especially if one can get a finish in the fight, especially if it’s Lytle avenging his loss ot Serra. The Dunham-Sherk winner will be in a good spot at the upper level of the division, whether it be Dunham continuing to go undefeated, or Sherk being the first to defeat him. The Guillard-Stephens winner will put themselves in the mix with a solid 3 fight win steak.
CPG
oh please
The winners of Cro Cop-Mir… will be within striking distance of a #1 contender fight.
Not a chance.
