That’s ok Ben. You’re not the most exciting either.

I actually think that Ben’s brand of grappling is extremely entertaining to watch; it’s very unique.

I will have to agree with him
Other than Diaz/ Davis I thought it was one of the weakest shows in some time.
But I guess you knew what was going to happen right?
Cause the fix was in right?

lmfao
would have been even worse if ben askren was on the card
The Red Wings will come back stronger
RESTORE THE ROAR 2010 Detroit Lions
Considering how much he likes wrestling without damage
The Lentz and Maynard fights should’ve given him a permanent semi.
Toronto FC - Where road games are forfeited and we STILL have no idea how to play from behind.
My feelings exactly
People are really taking it to this card, but I thought it was just so. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t blow me away. We’ve been spoiled lately.

He’s transitioning into the heel role nicely. People are going to love to hate this guy. I always rooted for the bad guy wrestlers.

I atually agree. I though the Penn/Edgar fight was really good though.
It’s funny to hear that from Askern though, lol
so i guess only Jorge Gurgel can only call a fight boring here.

And before I get hit with ohh he finished his first few career fights… So did GSP and Fitch. But he hasn’t finished any of his fights as of late unless you count the first Thomas fight… which you shouldn’t.
pretty lofty comparisons there

It won't seem so lofty to you in 1-2 more years
Hell, if he was at +400 or more I might take him now over Fitch.

I’d take him at even odds over Fitch. He’s a way better wrestler and has submissions as well. Fitch isn’t that good he’s just another UFC hype product. He’s a durable wrestler with solid grappling skills and no power, that’s about it.
Goldberg on Leben: One thing's for sure--he really did break that door on the Ultimate Fighter.
Rogan: uh...yeah.
How can a guy who’s only loss in 8 years is to GSP (arguably the best P4P fighter) while beating Alves x2, Sanchez, Gono, and Thiago be not that good and a UFC hype product?
Lol @ Sanchez Alves and Gono being big wins. Sanchez is all heart and cardio, no technique and undersized for the division. Alves has never beaten anyone except Hughes who stepped up on like a week’s notice, not to mention Alves conveniently showed up in a different weight class. Thiago is OK, but let’s be honest he’s not exactly a world-beater. Keep drinking the UFC koolaid.
Fitch is good but he’s not the athlete and the only thing Fitch is any good at (wrestling) Askren is way better at.
Goldberg on Leben: One thing's for sure--he really did break that door on the Ultimate Fighter.
Rogan: uh...yeah.
Diego beat Karo and Nick
Alves beat Karo, Kos, and Hughes
you are not giving enough credit to those wins at the time.
"In this fight, Anderson showed he was human," Nogueira said. "He showed he could be weak. But he showed he is a fighter and he brings something from his heart. It was beautiful."

Alves beat Kos and Hughes both on short notice and in the Hughes fight he came in at some obscene weight. I mean he did lose to Spencer Fisher after all…and he was pretty much getting owned by some random dude who’d beaten him previously I can’t remember his name before he landed a lucky Robbie Lawler esque punch.
Not to mention Fitch’s win over Diego was hardly impressive.
Anyway, none of this stuff really matters in how I predict a fight obviously Fitch has accomplished a lot more than Askren but Askren would win for the reason I mentioned above.
Goldberg on Leben: One thing's for sure--he really did break that door on the Ultimate Fighter.
Rogan: uh...yeah.
He is completely legit
And one of the very few guys who I consider the future of their division, that’s for sure.
I’m going out on the proverbial limb here to guys that all of these people making comments about Askren being boring have either never seen him fight or are die-hard K-1 fans who detest all aspects of the grappling game…

I’d take Askren at -250over Fitch. I’m a pretty big askren nuthugger. I just think Fitch has absolutely nothing to offer Askren.

I think Fitch could pick Askren apart standing. And i think he would try to implement that gameplan. Fitch may have bad striking, but at least he has some semblance of punching technique and a little power. Askren looks like he’s never even practiced throwing a punch. he just throws the weakest fake strikes out to set up his TDs. Fitch wouldn’t bite on those

I agree with him
The Lauzon fight was the best of the night
I said the same thing.....
It was pretty boring IMO. Not many high action fights.
Askren, Bellator WW, 1 of the 5 or 6 best in the world at 170
In the Jon Jones sense (the only one that matters), not the idiotic rankings sense.
In other words, there are not more than 5 WW’s who would be favored against him if they fought next month.

"In the Jon Jones sense "
Now you really have gone too far.
Seriously, though, you seem more than your usual level of deranged about this. Ben may be good…for Bellator, but to put him in the top 5, let alone top 10 in the WW division is seriously crazy considering where and who he has fought so far.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
My brother actually said the same thing. It doesn’t help that there were no KO’s or TKO’s. The people I was watching it with found the Maia vs Miranda fight a beautiful display of BJJ, but Maynard vs Florian made everyone hate Gray Maynard.
Maynard gets a really bad wrap for not finishing but if you look at who he has fought it’s not exactly his fault….Jim Miller has never been finished(in fact only lost twice and the other loss was to Frankie), Huerta (only been finished once and that was 6 years ago), Diaz (only been finished once), Edgar (never been finished and Maynard is his only loss) and Florian (only been finished twice, once by BJ and once when he was fighting at MW). I think what it comes down to is that Gray just fights guys who are tough as shit.
Outside of the Huerta fight where he worked the kimura, I personally don’t get the impression that he is trying to finish his fights, and it was extremely apparent in his fight against Florian. His standup consisted of throwing wild overhand rights and the occassional counter, and on the ground, he seemed content in riding out the clock in Florian’s guard and throw minimal ground n pound. During the last seconds of the fight, Maynard was backpedaling the whole time so as not to engage Florian whatsoever.

Well if you are winning the fight 20-18 and you have basically won the 3rd round as well its not your job to engage, Kenny didn’t go after Gray imo…and it isnt always that he doesnt try to finish it is simply that the people he is fighting are very good so they dont let themselves get put in situations where Gray can finish
You're right Ben. You're absolutely right.
.
Watching a 15 time world boxing champion with two times more knockouts than his opponent has total fights (and master shit talker) get raped and force fed humble pie by an older man wasn’t interesting in the slightest.
And what the fuck was up with the Diaz/Davis fight? An awesome choke til the lights go out in the third round? What kind of shit is that?
And don’t even get me started about the Lauzon/Reudiger fight. What was up with that no action fight? Didn’t Joe realize he was fighting in his hometown in a grudge match? I kept thinking to myself, “when is this going to get interesting?”
Oh and seriously, the so called “Main Event”? I can’t believe they didn’t just cut away and cancel the rest of the broadcast to save us viewers from that excruciating waste of time! I mean, who wants to see a guy who people thought had little chance of winning put on a clinic against one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world to solidify himself as a legitimate champion?
If you ask me, Ben hit the nail on the head. The UFC should be ashamed of themselves for putting that slop on the air.

It was a little boring, I agree with him. Not horrible though… the two main events were interesting. Couture’s match was a quick domination and I don’t know how someone couldn’t sit there amazed at watching Edgar handle Penn.
I did notice that the guy that runs the website: what would tyler durden do? he watches mma and comments sometimes and said much the same thing; he said he hopes nobody was watching the UFC for the first time ever last night.
This is why UFC 118 sucked
1) Couture/Toney sucked
2) no quick finishes. Without quick finishes they can’t air prelims showing more quick finishes. The average fan does not appreciate the skill or technique used, they want guys KOed or tapping out. That’s it. You show 7 shittt fights that all end in the first or second round and they’ll be happy.
Personally, besides the UFC vs Boxing fiasco, I thought the card was decent.

Damning with faint praise...
It was better than 112.
I’m really pretty sure that people in these comments are confusing Askren with Joe Warren. Ben is really fucking good and hasn’t been in a boring fight yet. Also, anyone seriously asking who Ben Askren is could really benefit from following the sport a little more closely as he’s been one of the top prospects in the sport for over a year.

Also...
I don’t see why people are upset with the guy. He didn’t think he’d ever be bored by a UFC card and was surprised that he was by 118. Why that is something that has earned him scorn is beyond me.
