This was actually a really well done promo
I think Strikeforce knows what they’re doing. They just need to get a little more consistent and get the balls to spend on advertising.
Anyone know if Strikeforce is going to try to get this on CBS?
This is a far more compelling fight than Diaz vs Miller. Two fighters known for their wins in MMA instead of a guy famous for his ‘quirky’ personality and appearances on a reality show. Can’t wait for this one!

Does this description really fit Nick Diaz?
Aside from his one win over Gomi, Diaz doesn’t have many impressive wins.
He is an exciting fighter to watch, but he is mostly famous for his fights outside the cage and for smoking endo.
Hospital brawls > impressive wins

nope. indo is short for indica. anything else is just people getting confused by David Ruffin Jr’s twang. (the guy who sings the hook in Gin and Juice)

Wiki says...
Cannabis (drug), known by the slang term ‘endo’ or ‘indo’
One way or another it is slang, origins are irrelevant with slang words…
it’s also irrelevant cuz im bout to go hit some indo and not worry about it

I disagree
KO over Robbie Lawler was awsome
Sub over “Mach” Sakurai was dope
GoGo’ed Gomi
Blasted Frank Shamrock
BeatDown the “WhiteMare” Zaromskis
TKO’ed Drew Fickett
Sub’ed Josh Neer
TKO’ed Gleison Tibau
RNC’ed Scott Smith
He’s earned his hype.

noons is a clown that was obviously scared to fight diaz back then
He would have ratherd get his belt stripped from him instead of giving diaz the rematch

Diaz fans are relentless in their ignorance.
Noons didn’t fight Diaz because of a contract dispute, not because he was ‘scared’. Why would he be scared of a guy who he whooped so badly for five minutes that the doctors had to stop the fight. It’s not like Noons just landed one lucky punch that cut Diaz. Nick’s face didn’t have one fight ending cut on it, it had about five (one over & under each eye and one of the bridge of the nose). Noons landed punches and knees at will and stuffed so many of Nick’s shots that Nick had to resort to buttscooting out of desperation.
Noons was scared of the rematch, and made the excuse that he wasn’t getting paid enough. He tried to justify it by saying that Diaz didn’t deserve a rematch. That fight should not have been stopped. Back then was the perfect time for the rematch, now it has a lot less luster.
I understand being a bit pissed that Noons didn’t take the rematch but saying he was scared of a dude he laid a 10-8 beating on is insane.

’We’ve never been offered that fight. Some people may be saying ‘are you ducking Miller?’ but we’ve never been offered that fight with Miller. He didn’t duck him. It was brought up in a brief conversation with Strikeforce…it was agreed that whoever they want to put in there, it was their decision. As our contract works, if there’s a different fight that Nick has to go move up in weight, well then there’s some negotiating room and what I can say is that if you do pick Miller, I would like to see it at 170. If Miller can’t make 170, we’re very open to a catchweight however for Nick to have to go up in weight to 185 to accommodate Miller, it just doesn’t make sense.
“Number one, Miller’s record doesn’t justify anyone having to come to him. His last five fights he’s won twice. Nick won seven in a row, he’s a champion. It’s more of a fan-favorite fight so we’ll do it, but probably at a catchweight but if Miller isn’t willing to do that , then ’don’t be scared homie’ may apply to him.”
“What if he called out Gilbert Melendez, would he tell Gil to move to 185 so he can fight? Its ridiculous. Why even bother to call him out? I would probably ask to fight someone more important in the fight world today if Nick is moving up to 185. We’re above that.”

That makes no sense...
Miller has 20 pounds over Milendez… And less then 10 over Diaz.
If Diaz has fought at 183 before, its really not much of a stretch for him to fight Miller at that weight again.
As far as I’m concerned, Gracie is just blowing a bunch of smoke of people’s asses making excuses for Nick.

I was all ready to crap on this fight
cause Diaz vs. Miller just makes so much more sense. However, I like the marketing SF is doing for this fight, pushing both guys, and the fight should be compelling all the same. I think Diaz has improved (and gotten facial surgery) since the first fight. This is his fight to lose IMO.
Give me smallest finger on man's hand. I'll produce information. Computer unnecessary.
While I like this fight...
Diaz’s first two fights as the Strikeforce WW champion are a non-title fight in Dream against Sakurai and against a LW?
Please please please Strikeforce just get rid of your belts, its becoming worse than a boxing alphabet belt.

Is this bout taking place at 170?
Why is Noons going up 15 lbs? I really don’t see the gain at all. But I guess props to Strikeforce for the marketing so far with both fighters getting attention.

the gain is that if he wins, he’s a beast for going up in weight and beating a bigger fighter. He could call himself “Diet BJ Penn”

Nah I mean the gain for Strikeforce
Seems very short sighted. If you have a 155er beat your only legitimate WW what’s that say about your WW division?

on the real, i don’t know. i thought you were talking about Noons. i have no clue how these fight promoters should be doing business, other than the fact the UFC needs to get Frankie Edgar some facetime on ‘Jersey Shore’

I don’t think KJ beating Diaz is a big problem and won’t say to much about their division considering Diaz has made the cut to 155 before so it isn’t as if he is this huge WW or anything. Add in the fact that KJ is probably a natural WW with him being 5’11 but just cuts a bunch to make 155(most likely thanks to his boxing background). It isnt as if he is fighting a 5’7 Jorge Gurgel or anything. On a side note I am happy at the way SF is promoting this fight as well.
If you have a 155er beat your only legitimate WW what’s that say about your WW division?
If you don’t book fights for the WW title because you don’t have a single worthwhile challenger, what does that say about your WW division?
Oh no doubt...their division is Diaz/Woodly/Bradley
Two of whom are prospects. Woodly should develop into a nice talent and Bradley just needs to bring it all together but he’s a beast of a wrestler.
But they have an obvious WW bout with Cyborg/Diaz and a obvious LW bout of Gilbert/KJ (#1 contender in my opinion).

Cyborg/Diaz would be hilarious. Gilbert/KJ would be awesome, or possibly a blanket-job by Gilbert

Honestly Cyborg Diaz would be awesome. Cause I don’t think Nick has the KO power and I think Cyborg could muscle him around.
Gil/KJ would be great cause it’ll be a real test of KJ’s TD defense. If he gets put down then he’s done but Gil would be at a severe disadvantage on the feet.

Nick may not have the immediate one shot power, but he can pitter-patter til dudes are disoriented and then put-em down. Frankly, i think it would look a lot like Diaz/Zaromskis, except with a tiny bit more danger for Diaz

It could but I think the problem for Nick is that Cyborg is a legit 205er who has somehow made it to 170. He still has power and was always able to take a shot. Either way it’s a highly entertaining fight. That’s how I’d book it if I’m Strikeforce. But we’re talking about a company that blew it with an obvious fight of Hieron/Diaz and then Riggs/Diaz in favor of Zaromski’s so who knows what the fuck they’re thinking.

I'd rather he didn't win since if he's WW champ (this is for the belt right?)
He won’t go to LW to fight Gil. A loss to Diaz doesn’t negate his #1 contender status at LW but a win over Nick means he’ll have to stay at WW. I’m trying to be positive and think that it’s a nice step for Strikeforce to market this fight already (3 months out!) but really it’s super short sighted and could potentially ruin two matchups that actually matter in the long run.

That's why the UFC WW division is so tough
They have virtually everyone in the top 10, even the top 20.
Diaz is the only one that you can make a case for, and IMO his opponents have been too weak to justify a top 10 ranking.
Also,
is it wrong that I kind of like Noons?
This fight should be called Diaz-Noons II: Douchey But Entertaining

Since you went first, I might as well come out and say that I kind of like him too. I think it’s the fact that he gets a lot of unwarranted hate for his pretty-boy looks and that kind of stuff, makes me feel sympathetic for him and root for him instead. When I read that report over at middleeasy where one of their guys had been attacked by KJ’s drunkard dad it also made me feel sad for him, having to deal with that and all the haters and so on. Also of course he’s a very solid fighter with great boxing skills.
In the same way, I’ve also developed somewhat of a liking for Jamie Varner.. disturbing trend to say the least.

Agree with all of that. The bottom line is that he’s an entertaining personality who puts on entertaining fights. Since I don’t have to go on road trips with him, it doesn’t really bother me that he might be a little bit of a cock in person.
