Dana White on ESPN SportsCenter - Talks Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen Rematch And James Toney
On Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen 2: "I think that is the fight that fans want to see. The way that I see my job is my job is to give the fans what they want. I think that is the fight they want to see. We got some interesting fights in that division. Vitor Belfort is still out there. I am looking towards the Chael Sonnen rematch. Yes. Chael Sonnen might have lit a fire under him. I think we’ll see a very impressive Anderson Silva in his next fight."
On Mauricio "Shogun" Rua: "He just had knee surgery, his others have been in Brazil. We did this one in the United States with the best doctor in the country. He is recovering well and We are looking at mid-spring, early Summer for his return and he will fight Rashad Evans."
On James Toney: "This guy is crazy. This guy threatened to knock me out at the press conference and things like this. It is going to be an interesting week for me."

I do not want to see a rematch.
At all no, not interested, less interesting than No/Mir II.

The fact that this only had one rec when I got here in an indictment of you all.

both of those are interesting
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
Because you're taking a year out of the prime of a top fighter
They have a very short window to fight at their best.

I’d be willing to bet that Rashad spends the time wisely and makes some moves to further his carreer for when his fighting days are over.

True but Rashad prolly thinks getting the belt back would do more for his career and I believe that's true
I also think Rashad gives them the best shot at a long term champ, which I think they sorely want. I know I’m gonna catch some shit for this but I have zero confidence in Shogun coming off the knee surgery.

Rashad sitting out for so long does nothing for fans. It’s a wasted year that is taking place during the prime of a top 5 fighter. I understand why Rashad is doing it, but I don’t understand why the UFC is doing it. It’s not like Rashad vs. Shogun will do significantly more business than Shogun vs. any other LHW.
Like I said I have the feeling the UFC wants another dominant champ in 205
And until Jones or Bader get up to par I don’t think we’ll have that unless it’s Rashad. ( Provided he can find some way to beat Machida if that’s even possible)

If Rashad beats Shogun,
Then he immediately loses it against Machida who subsequently gives it up to the future long-term dominate champ Jon Jones…

I do like the fact that they will both have ring rust when the fight happens though. Makes it less of a factor.
Yeah when was the last time Rashad took a bunmch of time off?
How long was it between the Silva fight and the Page fight?

That's not bad
We’ll see what happens I’m looking forward to the fight for sure.

Yeah, 5-6 months is about the norm for Rashad lately. So 10-14 months is definitely going to be a new experience for him.
Still, this is the fight that makes sense to me. They’ll both have ring rust, and it’s a new and interesting matchup.
A healthy Shogun can go 5 rounds I still wonder about Rashad.
Wrestler Rashad can nullify Shogun for rounds at a time I think. I really think Rashad just has to worry about closing distance, Shogun has good sweeps and subs but I doubt he can Rashad.

Umm
Why the hell did they show the highlight of Silva/Maia when they were talking about a rematch for Silva/Sonnen?
Hopefully it's not the Shogun that showed up when he fought Coleman.
That was not good.
The Sonnen/Silva rematch can’t come soon enough imo.

Same here. I want to see that fight so bad, and it just makes the most sense. Belfort still has a lot of new and interesting matchups to keep him busy.
I said it before I bet it goes down like Bendo/Cerrone 2

wait...so you think...
the winner of the first will get brutalized in the second in the first round? What is chael going to lay on top of him to death…very quickly?

Well, it's more like...
Everybody thought that Machida was going to make some adjustments to his game and take the rematch pretty handily, and then he got beat even worse.
That’s what I see happening. First round stoppage though? I agree that’s not likely.
Yeah, like how I thought Cerrone was gonna make adjustments to his game and beat Bendo
and yeah well that didn’t happen exactly like that.

Whats next for Vitor then
With Sonnen likely getting a rematch I’m wondering who they are going to have fight Vitor in November my guess is it might be Yushin Okami as most of the other top 185 have fights lined up currently or are sidelined into early next year b/c on injuries.
They should do a 4 man tourney like they did for HW....
Leben, Okami, Vitor and Wandy…. There isn’t a bad match-up to be had and every storyline would be interesting, no matter who wins out of the 4, or the Silva-Sonnen rematch (even Leben vs Silva; to see Chris get another shot).
I enjoyed when they discussed Sonnen v Silva
While someone in production decided to splice in footage of Maia v Silva, apparently not knowing who Sonnen was. I’m glad to see that MMA is making strides at ESPN. They still have a long way to go, tho.
Not gonna lie, I had somewhat got my hopes up for Bisping Sonnen after Bispings next fight.
