Dana White Says Winner of Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard Gets Lightweight Title Shot
Dana also said Heath Herring will probably never fight in the UFC again, but Tim Sylvia could if he gets a few more wins and Randy Couture will go back to 205 for good after this fight.

Until Maynard grinds out a win.
And then Gray is going to be “in the mix”. Again.

I don't think so
They are much more likely to shaft KenFlo than Maynard, especially if Penn wins. Fitch did not get the shaft because he’s “boring” – he got the shaft because he has already had a crack at the champ and lost and has done less than nothing to convince people things would be different this time around. That’s KenFlo’s problem – not Maynard’s. If he wins, he’ll get his shot.
I’m not really sure why so many people think Maynard has been “stepped over” or “isn’t getting respect.” His “undefeated” record is a bit of mirage since he lost on the show. He didn’t deserve a shot before KenFlo or Diego Sanchez. Then, sure, Edgar got the shot instead of Maynard when Maynard beat Edgar a long time ago. But Maynard’s split decision over Nate Diaz was very unconvincing. A lot of people thought he lost that fight. Tough to give him a title shot. Likewise, the Edgar/Penn decision was controversial (I thought Penn won) and having an immediate rematch was a good idea.
I don’t think getting KenFlo in a #1 contender match is such a bad consolation prize. KenFlo would be the first person he’d have to fight if he got the belt from Edgar anyway. If he grinds out a boring win, he’ll get his shot. If KenFlo grinds out a boring win, however, he might find himself getting the shaft in favour of Sotiropolous.
Your assumption is wrong about Maynard.
The decision to have Edgar fight Penn was made Three weeks before Maynard/Diaz.
Maynard would not immediately go into a training camp following the Diaz fight and the UFC was well aware of that.
Dana was being Dana, the alpha and omega, by making his declaration of his " decision" after Maynard/Diaz. Dont be so gullible.
You may be right on the Florian Title Fight conjecture.
OR
BJ beats Frankie in convincing fashion and starts campaigning to fight at Welterweight again and the #1 contender at Lightweight gets put on the shelf again for ten months or so (ie. Kenny Florian).
Is it just me...
Or did Dana White just say that Paul Harris vs Nate the Great is on UFC 118…?
That’s not true is it?
he also said UFC 119 was Lesnar/Velasquez and Dana agreed with it. I don’t like this guy doing the interview, kind of annoying.
uuuh yeah I write for the Cincinnati Enquirer. Thanks?

Forget Heath fighting in the UFC again, I don't think he'll fight ever again period.

Some good questions + good info
Wow. No more Heath Herring. He hasn’t fought since then, right? Does anyone know if he’s done?
I personally don’t think Tim Sylvia will ever return to the UFC.
Randy is getting too old to constantly go back from LHW to HW. Interesting for him to stay at LHW. I think that’s good, though. I’d like to see him fight Lil Nog.
Re: Belfort, I think they’re waiting for the winner of Bisping v. Akiyama (hope Akiyama wins — he needs this win). I’m okay with either of those. I’m also okay with Belfort fighting Okami.
That's a shame about Herring
I know he has some issues with the UFC, hopefully they release him so he can fight elsewhere if he wants to. Although he seems to be more interested in acting at the moment.
Tim Sylvia would be a gatekeeper in the current UFC heavyweight division. I don’t see any way he’d beat the top four guys in the division and there are a few outside of the top that would give him trouble.
I don’t think Herring is interesting in fighting at all anymore. He was supposed to fight Cain Velasquez at one time but pulled out and I haven’t seen anything but “he’s making movies” since.
I read an interview with him in which he complained about not making enough money and the UFC wanting to push guys like Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir more than they wanted to push him. I got the impression that he didn’t want to fight for the UFC anymore more than him not wanting to fight period.
i can not wait for this fight
why the hell did grey not take a title shot? i have asked this question for the past year and a half. he deserved one, in a fitch kind of why. but this fight is the clear defining contender. i am most excited about this fight. kenny is an absolute beast and grey is the biggest 155 there is. kenny destroyed alvin robinson and huerta in convincing fashion and they are way bigger than him. i pick kenny on this one, even though grey has very decent striking and superior wrestling, kenny is better everywhere except wrestling. but training with GSP can….fill any hole…in ones game plan.hmm i can not wait for this fight. and grey is praying edger wins, fucking praying.
ufc fan boy all the way
Are you being melodramatic?
Do you actually think that Gray or any other fighter gives a damn who they fight once they achieve a Title Fight? Jeeezzz.
just sayin…grey has already beat edger, so yeah im sure grey really really cares who he is fighting when it comes to the title fight.
